The National Chess Federation of Philippines will host the Batang Pinoy 2014 Chess Tournament Mindanao Qualifying Leg in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur from September 10-14, 2014. The tournament is open to Filipino chess players representing local government units who were born on or after January 1, 1999. It will feature standard, rapid, and blitz chess competitions for both boys and girls divisions. Players will compete in 5-6 rounds of Swiss system play across the different formats. Individual medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event and division, and the top three in each event will advance to the national finals.

CHESS TOURNAMENT
MINDANAO QUALIFYING LEG

PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR
SEPTEMBER 10 14, 2014

TECHNICAL GUIDELINES

I. ELIGIBILITY

A. The tournament is open to all Filipino chess players (titled or untitled boys and girls)
representing their respective LGUs.
B. Players must be born on or after January 1, 1999.
C. Each player must be duly certified by the authorized LGU official he/she is representing.

II. TOURNAMENT FORMAT

A. The tournament shall be divided in two divisions:
1. Boys Division
2. Girls Division

B. The tournament shall be conducted in three events

1. Standard Chess
a. Sixty (60) Minutes with 30 seconds increment per move to finish the game.

2. Rapid Chess
a. 10 Minutes with 10 seconds increment to finish the game.

3. Blitz Chess
. a. 3 minutes with 2 seconds increment to finish the game.

III. TOURNAMENT RULES

A. The tournament shall be governed by the FIDE Laws of Chess.
B. Five to six rounds Swiss System.
C. Tie-Breaks the following tie-break systems, in descending order of priority, shall be
used to determine the final ranking of players after the competition:

1. Direct Encounter
2. Buchholz System
3. S.B. System
4. Median Buchholz
5. More number of wins (unplayed games included)

D. The use of mobile phone or any electronic means of communication is not allowed
during a game. A player who will violate the afore-mentioned rule shall lose his/her
game by forfeiture.

E. The starting rank of players shall be based on the latest NCFP Rating List.

DAY 1 (WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 10, 2014)

1:00 PM - BLITZ CHESS

DAY 2 (THURSDAY, SEPT. 11, 2014)

9:00 AM - RAPID CHESS

4:00 PM - AWARDING OF MEDALS
(BLITZ & RAPID CHESS)

DAY 3 (FRIDAY, SEPT. 12, 2014)

9:00 AM - STANDARD CHESS ROUND 1

1:00 PM - STANDARD CHESS ROUND 2

DAY 4 (SATURDAY, SEPT, 13, 2014)

9:00 AM - STANDARD CHESS ROUND 3

1:00 PM - STANDARD CHESS ROUND 4

DAY 5 (SUNDAY, SEPT. 14, 2014)

8:00 AM - STANDARD CHESS ROUND 5

12:00 NN - STANDARD CHESS ROUND 6

3:30 PM - AWARDING OF MEDALS

V. AWARDS (FOR EACH DIVISION)

A. Individual Medals will be awarded to the top three players in all events.
B. The top three players in each event shall advance to the National Finals.
