SECTlON 4: FlRST AlD MEASURES
4.1. Description of first aid measures
General information
Get medical attention. Perform artificial respiration if breathing has stopped. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.
lnhalation
Remove victim immediately from source of exposure. Provide fresh air, warmth and rest, preferably in a comfortable upright sitting
position. lf breathing stops, provide artificial respiration.
lngestion
DO NOT lNDUCE VOMlTlNG! lf vomiting occurs, keep head low so that stomach content doesn't get into the lungs. Never give liquid to
an unconscious person. Get medical attention.
Skin contact
Remove contaminated clothing and flush with plenty of water until pain disappears. lf discomfort persists transport to hospital and bring
these instructions.
Eye contact
lmmediately flush with plenty of water for up to 15 minutes. Remove any contact lenses and open eyes wide apart. lmmediately transport to
hospital or eye specialist.
4.2. Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
General information
lf adverse symptoms develop as described the casualty should be transferred to hospital as soon as possible.
lnhalation
Respiratory irritant effects that impair function with symptoms such as cough, pain, choking, and breathing difficulties.
lngestion
Harmful if swallowed.
Skin contact
Skin irritation. Prolonged or repeated contact with used oil may cause serious skin diseases, such as dermatitis.
Eye contact
May cause severe irritation to eyes.
4.3. lndication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
No recommendation given, but first aid may still be required in case of accidental exposure, inhalation or ingestion of this chemical. lf in
doubt, GET MEDlCAL ATTENTlON PROMPTLY!
SECTlON 5: FlREFlGHTlNG MEASURES
5.1. Extinguishing media
9 3 /
RO lM C346
Extinguishing media
Extinguish with alcohol-resistant foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder or water fog.
Unsuitable extinguishing media
Water jet.
5.2. Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Hazardous combustion products
During fire, toxic gases (CO, CO2) are formed. Sulphurous gases (SOx).
Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazards
FLAMMABLE.
Specific hazards
When heated and in case of fire, harmful vapours/gases may be formed. Closed containers can burst violently when heated, due to
excess pressure build-up.
5.3. Advice for firefighters
Special Fire Fighting Procedures
Spillages or uncontrolled discharges into watercourses must be lMMEDlATELY alerted to the Environmental Agency or other appropriate
regulatory body.
Protective equipment for fire-fighters
Self contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.
SECTlON 6: ACClDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
6.1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
For personal protection, see section 8. Do not breathe vapour. Do not smoke, use open fire or other sources of ignition. Take
precautionary measures against static discharges.
6.2. Environmental precautions
Do not allow ANY environmental contamination. Do not discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground. Contain spillages with
sand, earth or any suitable adsorbent material. Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination. Ensure electrical
continuity by bonding and grounding (earthing) all equipment.
6.3. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Contain spillage with sand or earth. Self-contained breathing apparatus with full facepiece. Containers with collected spillage must be
properly labelled with correct contents and hazard symbol. Do not flush road with water. Contain contaminated water/ firefighting water For
waste disposal, see section 13.
6.4. Reference to other sections
For personal protection, see section 8. For waste disposal, see section 13.
SECTlON 7: HANDLlNG AND STORAGE
7.1. Precautions for safe handling
Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. Ventilate well, avoid breathing vapours. Use approved respirator if air contamination is
above accepted level. Good personal hygiene is necessary. Wash hands and contaminated areas with water and soap before leaving the
work site. Properly dispose of any contaminated rags or cleaning materials in order to prevent fires. Avoid spilling, skin and eye contact.
Flammable/combustible material.
7.2. Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Avoid inhalation of vapours and contact with skin and eyes. Store in tightly closed original container in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.
Drums should be stacked to a maximum of three high. Store in a demarcated bunded area to prevent release to drains and/or
watercourses. Vapours are heavier than air and may travel along the floor and in the bottom of containers. Contaminated rags and cloths
must be put in fireproof containers for disposal. Avoid exposure to high temperatures or direct sunlight. Do not use compressed air or
oxygen for filling, discharging or handling. May explode in a fire. Keep containers tightly closed. Suitable containers: mild steel,
stainless steel. Do NOT use container made of: Rubber, neoprene or PVC. Do not subject to grinding/shock/friction.
Storage Class
Flammable liquid storage.
7.3. Specific end use(s)
The identified uses for this product are detailed in Section 1.2.
SECTlON 8: EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTlON
8.1. Control parameters
9 4 /
RO lM C346
Contains no substances with occupational exposure limit values.
8.2. Exposure controls
Protective equipment
Process conditions
Use engineering controls to reduce air contamination to permissible exposure level. Provide eyewash station.
Engineering measures
Provide adequate ventilation, including appropriate local extraction, to ensure that the defined occupational exposure limit is not
exceeded.
Respiratory equipment
ln case of inadequate ventilation and work of brief duration, use suitable respiratory equipment.
Hand protection
Neoprene, nitrile, polyethylene or PVC. Nitrile gloves are recommended, but be aware that the liquid may penetrate the gloves. Frequent
change is advisable.
Eye protection
Goggles/face shield are recommended. Contact lenses should not be worn when working with this chemical!
Other Protection
Wear suitable protective clothing as protection against splashing or contamination.
Hygiene measures
Observe good chemical hygiene practices.
Skin protection
Wear apron or protective clothing in case of splashes.
