Grade 10 Physics Test

This document contains a physics test with multiple questions assessing students' knowledge of concepts like momentum, forces, Newton's laws of motion, and kinematics. It includes: 1. Questions about momentum, forces, and vector quantities. 2. A question involving constructing and interpreting a speed-time graph to calculate distance traveled based on changes in speed and time. 3. Questions calculating forces and defining units, relating to Newton's laws of motion and why seat belts prevent injury during hard braking. 4. Kinematic questions calculating distance, acceleration, forces and momentum based on an provided speed-time graph of a girl running.

(ii)
How is the resultant force acting on a body related to the CHANGE IN
MOMTENMUN of the
body?..................................................................................................................

............................................................................................................................
(iii)

State which of the quantities mentioned are vector quantities?

[5marks]

(b). A motorist, driving on a straight level, road, suddenly notices a road block and
nearly has a bad accident,
(i) Draw a speed- time graph for his motion, given the following details:

At 0s the motorist, driving at 40m/s, notices the road block.

After 1.0s, because his reflexes are slow, he applied the brakes.
These produce a deceleration of 50m/s2

After a further 0.5s, his brakes fail.

After another 2.0s, the car comes to rest.

(ii)

Given that the distance traveled is the area under speed-time graph, and
that the car stopped JUST at the road block, calculate how far away the
road block was from the motorist when he first noticed it. [8marks]

(c)

If the mass of the motorist and his car together is 1000kg, calculate the value of
the resultant force which retard the car when the brakes were working.
IN WORDs, define the unit of force you used.
