2014 On-Campus Senator

Elections Packet
Thank you for showing interest in the On-Campus Senator position
within Associated Student Government. Student Senate meets regularly
once per week in Harrison 111 on Tuesday nights at 6:00pm to discuss
matters of interest and concern to the student body. Student Senators
serves as the primary method of information gathering for the administration
and secondary services of the university. Senators are responsible for
collecting the concerns of their constituents to present to the body,
researching and writing legislation, and debating policy changes.
This packet contains:
1) Information coversheet & ASG Bylaws
2) Official Petition for the ASG Off-Campus Senator Position
Important dates to remember for the 2014 election cycle:
August 31st:
Election petitions due by 5:00pm in 2012 Armstrong

September 2 : Campaigning begins at 12am and must be in accordance
with the ASG Bylaws and Miami University Handbook

September 5 : Elections held online (miamioh.edu/HUB) from 7am to 7pm
September 7th:
Student senate training session

Senators
604.A. The election for on-campus Student Senators shall be held in conjunction with
Community Leadership Team Elections.
1. The President of the Senate shall be responsible for dividing the Student Senate
seats per district, districts per quad, and number the quads with approximately
equal student representation.
2. The President of the Senate shall designate residence halls as sorority halls
according
to current sorority living patterns, and such halls shall not be combined in districts
with
non-sorority halls.
3. On-campus voting for each district will take place in that district; the election
shall be
held in conjunction with that of the community leadership teams.
604.B. On-campus candidates for Student Senate may run only for the district in which
they reside.

1. Members of the Office of Residential Life are ineligible to run for the position of
Student Senator from their hall. They are eligible to run for the position of Student
Senator for the Resident Assistant (RA) seat.

Candidate Qualification
a. All candidates must live on-campus
b. Must be able to attend student senate meetings every Tuesday
at 6 PM (if elected)
Petitions
a. Each candidate must submit a petition in order to be placed on
the ballot
b. Petitions must contain 35 signatures of ANY Miami University
students
c. Petitions must be turned into ASG office (Armstrong 2012) by 5
PM August 31st
Election Rules and Procedures
a. Campaign Procedures
i.
Campaigning begins on September 2nd
ii.
All campaign materials shall conform to the Code of
Student Conduct
iii.
Campaigning is permitted only in the hall or district of the
candidate
b. Election Day
i.
Elections will be held on September 5th
ii.
Voting will begin at 7 AM and end at 7 PM
iii.
Students must vote online on the Hub
miamioh.edu/HUB
iv.
Students can only vote for candidates living in their
respective district
v.
Results of the election will be announced at 8 PM
c. Senate training
i.
All elected senators must be able to attend the mandatory
training session on September 7th at 1 PM

a. Three (3) Student Senators shall be elected from each of the
following on-campus districts:

1st District: Peabody, Mary Lyon, McKee, Clawson, Thompson,


Havighurst
2nd District: Beachwoods, Hillcrest, Stonebridge, Wilson
3rd District: Porter, Anderson, Dodds, Stanton
4th District: Morris, Emerson, Tappan
5th District: Scott, Heritage Commons, Etheridge, Maple Street
6th District: Hahn, Hamilton,2Richard, MacCracken, Minnich
7th District: Miami Inn, Hepburn, Flower, Elliott, Stoddard,
