Difference Between Clint and Company Code

On a single SAP instance, you can have multiple clients (called configurations), such as a sandbox client, development client, and test client. Each client can share the same code base but have different customizations. Company codes are part of the client configuration and allow for different company codes across clients. The client organizes the IT landscape while the company code organizes the organization. Data is isolated between clients and only visible within each client.

You are on page 1/ 3

On one SAP instance, you can have multiple clients (let's call it configurations

)
You can have a sandbox client, a development client and a unit test client on th
e same SAP instance. (this is a typical setup for a development system)
The clients on a system, share the same code base, but each client can have a di
fferent customizing. (which is why I refer to a client, as a configuration).
as the company code is part of the configuration, this means that you can have d
ifferent company codes, on different clients.

so in a way, you could say that the company code, is how to organize your organi
zation and the clients, is how you organize your IT landscape.
Client is the organisation for which SAP is being configured. Client has a uniqu
e 3 digit code.
Any activities which you are do'g in SAP is carried out in client.
The moment you map sytem landscape in SAP,you assign different different role to
all clients ..Like client for Development, quality, production would be differe
nt.
Company means an entity for which u have to prepare separate set of accounts. So
for a single client (organization for which SAP is configured), we can have mor
e than one company code which depends on FI consultant keeping in mind regarding
chart of accounts.
Hope this helps you to differentiate compny code and client.
Client is the organisation for which SAP is go'g to be configured. It has 3 didg
it code.
The client is a self contained unit in the R3 system. The moment you map SAP lan
dscape in system, we assign different roles to different client like client for
Production, Quality and production.Whatever the configuration we do, we do in cl
ient itself.
The data in a client can be only visible within that client; it can not be displ
ayed or changed from another client.
While company code is the part of configuration, where company code is Highest l
evel in enterprize stucture.

The main objective of the client is to keep the data isolated.
difference between clint level and company code level........................?
Answer.........
Client level means that data which is stored at client level can be accesed thro
ugh out the client. Example: The data stored in customer master at client level
you can access and use to across the client.
Company code level meanes that data which is stored at company code level you ca
n only access through out that company code only not from or for any other compa
ny code. Example: If you create a master records at company code segment, that m
aster record can be accessed when you are doing the transaction for that company
code.

Client Level

The client is the highest level in the SAP System hierarchy. Data stored at clie
nt level can be accessed by all company code in the system.

Company Code Level

The company code is the central organizational unit of external accounting withi
n the SAP System. Data stored or created at company code level can be used with
in company code.

Customer Master Data

Customer Master data is divided into three parts:-
Client Level
Company Code Level
Sales Area Level

For Example:-

Customer Master created at client level like address data can be used by all com
pany code. If customer A master data has been maintained at client level than co
mpany code ABCD and company code EFGH can extent customer at company code level
and use customer for FI posting. Again if you want to use customer for SD than y
ou need to extent it in SD area.

So, you can say that Master record created at client level can be used by all co
mpany code across the system.
Client level -- > whatever data we create at client level is applicable for all
company codes

Co.code level -->whatever data we create at co.code level is applicable for thos
e company codes

customer master data --> Data will be create at client level. company code level
and sales org level.
