The poem "My Noisy Brother" describes a brother who makes noise in various ways such as slurping his soup, gargling his milk, burping after meals, cracking his knuckles, whistling when he walks, snapping his fingers when he sings, and squawking when he's mad. It also notes that he snores loudly at night, so he is never quiet even when sleeping. The justification explains that the poem uses simple language and vocabulary that would be easy for second grade students to understand, while also exposing them to new verbs. It also suggests ways the poem could be taught interactively, such as having students act out the verbs.
