company. My self-teaching a#ilities will minimi%e overhead costs, and my industriousness at targeting
needs without prompting will set me apart from others. Additionally, one thing that has always set me
apart from my scientific+engineering peers are my #road interests and strong writing a#ilities. I am not
your typical .left-#rained. engineer, and with my #road talents, I am liely to provide diverse
viewpoints.

Most importantly, I am looing for a company that values 'uality, ethics, and teamwor. I would lie to

My academic interests are #road, so I sought civil engineering to achieve a great #alance of mathematics,
chemistry, #iology, physics, and writing.

I chose this college for the following reasons5 my #udget limited me to in-state schools, I was seeing an
area with dog-friendly apartments, the M01 we# site impressed me, I saw active student groups, and the
people were very friendly.

I got involved with student activities to overcome my de#ilitating shyness. Receiving these awards
signified that I had accomplished a transition from dragging myself to participate to feeling energi%ed #y it.

I wored very hard for this grade and loved the su#!ect, so it was a great feeling to see that the hard wor
paid off.

Introductory soil elicited little interest in me, most liely #ecause the professor was ine(perienced, the #oo
was ineffective, and I had little spare time that semester to loo into other resources.

<es, #ut not immediately. I plan to continue part time with either an M$A or an environmental engineering
masters, depending on which will #e more #eneficial to my wor.

A professor who nows me well would liely descri#e my personal 'ualities5 sweet, down-to-earth, smart,
hard-woring, and conscientious.
As specific e(amples of those who did not now me well, my soils professor and soils teaching assistant
each considered me smart and respectful, and #oth thought that I must have en!oyed the class a lot, due to
my performance.
11. 9iven the chance: how woul you alter your eucation?
=nowing now what I lie the most, I would have used my electives for e(tra math and psychology classes,
since I tend to #e well-rounded enough that a variety of classes are unnecessary> my personal reading is
diverse enough. I have found that mathematics and psychology are helpful to all career and life paths.

to the company, and I en!oyed learning on my own.

0ome of my interests include dogs, hiing, snow-shoeing, water sports, writing, reading ,especially /harles
7icens& novels-, siing, drawing, crafts, and computers.

My strongest strength is the a#ility to teach myself difficult material, regardless of the su#!ect ,with the
e(ception of theater and drawing #lood from dogs, which I have no talent for-. Additionally, I have always
e(celled ver#ally and loo forward to writing opportunities.

I tend to try to do too many things, leaving little time for myself. I have wored on #alancing myself for the
last several months. I am also woring on improving my pu#lic speaing sills.
21. $hat sort of serious problems have you experience: an how have you hanle them?
My apartment #uilding #urned down at the end of ?anuary during one of my semesters at M01. $efore the
fire got too #ad, I was a#le to rescue my pets and the neigh#or&s dog, as well as my te(t#oos and
#acpac, #ut I lost most of my mementos and possessions. 6hile the firemen were preparing their hoses, I
drove to school ,with the animals in the car- to meet my la# partners, who were waiting for me. I e(plained
the situation, emailed my professors, and rushed #ac to the apartment.
@ortunately, I had renter&s insurance. I missed a#out a wee of school to deal with the insurance matters and
find a new place to live. In order to salvage my grades and sanity, I dropped a course and honored my
e(isting student group and research commitments. 0taying active socially and eeping myself well-rounded
were the #est healing tools for me. 6ithin a few wees, I was caught up and had recovered reasona#ly from
the loss of sentimental items.

I was always good in math, #ut I wish that I would have focused on math more. I feel that mathematics can
lead one anywhere, and is the #asis of most disciplines.
Bn a personal level, I would have ensured that, despite pre-teen angst and insecurity, I would have #een
nice to everyone, even on especially #ad days.

0alary is important, #ut I couldn&t stay with a job that #rought me misery when I could support myself
doing something else> hence, my !o# is more important.

"aing advantage of my strengths so that they are not wasted. 0ince no#ody is lucy enough to #e strong in
every area, I thin it is important to mae good use of one&s strengths.

sweet things, improving the environment+community, taing care of one&s family, etc. 0uperficially, I tend
to measure success #y level of education and a#ilities within one&s career> however, I try to remind myself
of the things that are more important.
