This is envisioned as a two-parter, starting with the latest Israel-Arab [Gaza/Lebanon/Syria] conflict; having been envisioned as a terse-update [including my blogging contributions], it has grown to include startling data about what is now occurring in this latest Israel-Arab War [which thereby serves as a prcis for anyone who wishes to disseminate these truths among family/friends].
Although there is plenty of space herein for media-critique, one particularly insidious quotation from The Economist *already pegged in prior analyses as unambiguously pro-BHO and Lib-oriented+ merits scrutiny. Under the heading Israel and Palestine [immediately conveying a sense of ownership of the Gaza Strip by Palestinian Arabs], this essay *The new normal - No matter what Israels prime minister says, the conflict with the Palestinians cannot simply be managed] channels the desire to blame Israel for the failed Kerry-effort, notwithstanding the fact that the chief-negotiator, Martin Indyk, no friend of Israel, portrayed the dnouement thusly:
In recounting a nearly yearlong series of negotiations, Indyk said that both sides identified the agreement gaps early on and that Netanyahu eventually moved into "the zone of a possible agreement" on such thorny issues as the status of territories, Jerusalem, and mutual recognition of Israel's and Palestine's rights to exist. But during Abbas's visit to Washington in March, he effectively "checked out" from the talks and stopped responding to proposals from the Obama administration on how to close a deal. After that, the process spiraled downward and intensified during negotiations over the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
With this in-mind, note excerpts from the belittling of Israelis at the end of the 1 st
graph; the implied-threat that predictably ends the 2 nd graph; the *documented-to- have-failed] judgmentality of the 3 rd graph; the characterization of indiscriminate bombing of civilians as having been perpetrated by militants instead of terrorists at the end of the 4 th graph; the unjustified egalitarianism that opens the 5 th graph and the negative-prediction that closes the 5 th graph *an unproven postulate that had also been trotted-out by lefties regarding Iraq, particularly noting the surge of Islamist- recruitment after BHO allowed for its victories in Iraq/Syria+; the abuse of arithmetic [that Bard debunked, vide infra] that infests the 6 th graph; the lie *noting that Israelis have not land-grabbed within Judea/Samaria, post-Oslo] that is buried in the 7 th graph; and the overt-editorialization [lambasting Israel, noting the above data c/o Indyk] that emerges from the 8 th graph:

Demonstrators in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv have protested not just about war and peace, but even more vociferously about the price of cottage cheese.
Palestinians, 70 of whom have already been killed, are sliding towards a third uprising, or intifada.
Mr Netanyahus mistakecompounded by the actions of Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the Palestinians on the West Bankis to think that their versions of normality can be sustained simply by managing the conflict. A stand-off is always liable to tip into violence. Lasting peace will come about only when the two sides reach a comprehensive settlement.
militants fired rockets into Israel.
fragility is a symptom of the influence of extremists on both sides.
to the watching world, its overwhelming use of force, which always leaves many more Palestinians than Israelis dead, has often looked excessiveand its international standing, which moderate Israelis care about, tumbles further.
normality for the West Banks Palestinians has come to mean accepting Israeli occupation while Israeli settlers gobble up ever more territory.
For all these reasons, the failure of Mr Netanyahu to make peace a priority is dangerous. He did not make the most of the recent plan put forward by John Kerry, Americas secretary of state. Both he and Mr. Abbas recklessly pursued short-term advantage during the talks, leaving their countries vulnerable to those who argue that, with the hopes of peace exhausted, conflict is all that remains. That is wrong. Two states, one for Israelis and one for Palestinians, remains by far the greatest hope for peace. The parameters of an agreement are well-rehearsed. What is lacking is the conviction among reasonable people that such a settlement is needed now. Without that belief, Israels normality will always have an air of unreality.
It will rapidly become readily apparent that this Blast e-mail is replete with references to fundamental info regarding both the acute conflict with Gaza and its chronic origins; suggested action-items are intended to maximize support for Israel, as she is pounded by THOUSANDS of rockets [toting-up both those of the prior decade and the current barrage+, weathering the storm so that the IDF can truly silence Hamas in Gaza. I feel the process will now be methodically enlarged, yielding new and manageable truths; indeed, Israel may opt to hold territory north and south of Gaza City, yielding a buffer.
Underlying these forces-at-play is Islamism, manifest worldwide in myriad forms: 1864

Regarding the Danon-firing [vide infra], this is what I wrote on one of Israpundits blogging-sites:
Id like to suggest a reformulation of the available information acquired during the past 24-hours.
First, a disclaimer: I have adored Danny Danon ever since he stood next to Governor Rick Perry [9/2007] in NYC while they blasted the UN [and efforts to confer "statehood" on "Palestine"].
Arlene Kushner thinks el-Sisi may have purposefully initiated this gambit, knowing Hamas would not comply, thereby strengthening Israel and hardening intent to do what Egypt cant, namely, to achieve a demilitarized Gaza.
I respect also, of course, BB, for we graduated from the same High School [Cheltenham, he in '67 and me in '69].
Finally, I have always felt that whatever is noted in America is actually articulated almost purely for internal political consumption; in that regard, I have read pundits predicting what BB will do as he eyes the potential for an election within 18 months. Liebermans party-divorce apparently was irreversible, despite BBs having initiated his reaction to the Hamas-rockets within 24-hours of this decision [perhaps noting that polling suggested he'd gain ~7 Knesset seats].
In any case, not only can BB intensify his offensive, but he can accomplish this in a fashion that unites the currently-governing coalition; in my view, DD will suddenly awaken with a start, recognizing how effectively BB used him. 1865
Essentially, BB cried all the way to the bank, now empowered to portray himself as a force of moderation between hawks and doves.
*
Look, with all due respect, when the PM has made a decision, it is desirable to support it publicly; if for no other reason than to undermine the capacity of enemies to use a political statement to undermine Israel, it is best if he were to have relied solely upon having aired his contrary viewpoint privatelyparticularly noting the fact that they are both Likud.
*
What yall fail to acknowledge is that BHO was undoubtedly extorting BB to do his bidding, hanging the Iron Dome over his head [so to speak].
On another Israpundit site, I quoted my earlier analysis of the slick pro-Islamist PR of Al-Monitor when amplifying on what had been discussed by others, to wit:
Illustrative of the refinement of pro-Islamist PR is Al-Monitor, which allegedly follows the agenda of the Iranian and Syrian governments and Hezbollah.[6][7] {Wikipedia citations} Note, as an example, why Daoud Kuttab suggests that the true target, and a likely casualty, of the conflict is the unity agreement between Fatah and Hamas:
The Israeli military establishment and to a lesser degree the Hamas military wing have their own reasons to ramp up the conflict and test their latest military equipment. The war on Gaza is an unnecessary war. The calm from the previous cease-fire was holding until Netanyahu and company decided to piggyback on a heinous crime against three Israeli settlers. Their aim is to accomplish far-reaching political goals that include crushing a legitimate political movement.
Note not-so-subtle swipes @ Israel, both regarding its alleged intent to sow acrimony between the PA/Hamas and regarding the claim that this is all so very unnecessary; there is not even an effort made to acknowledge the ongoing missile attacks from Gaza.
And on a third Israpundit site, I flamed-out on Dershowitz, the Church, and European anti-Semitism:
Dershowitz remains dangerous for, it must be recalled, he supports making Judea/Samaria judenrein; he corroborated this stance publicly @ the U of Pennsylvania a few months ago [after I x-examined him before a SRO-crowd], when he sided with J Street over those who would remind him that the concept of trading-land-for-peace has been thoroughly debunked. He clearly placed his support of Obamas social policies over his concerns with Obamas Middle East policies. [For documentation, note the three hyperlinks within the second graph of this essay I wrote two months ago.]
* 1866
The roots of European anti-Semitism are both deeper and more superficial than anything related to the Catholic Church [recalling the Second Ecumenical Council of '64, when modern Jews were officially absolved by Pope John XXIII].
*
As a physician, I do not recall ever reading any scholarly piece suggesting attitudes can be genetic; the roots of European anti-Semitism may be multifaceted, but sustaining a genetic mutation is a new one on me.
On a fourth Israpundit site [all having been initiated within the past 24-hours+, I wrote, With all due respect to the unanimity of opinion that has emerged among these comments, might anyone please note the salutary effects of BBs actions?...*after I was challenged to support my support of BB+He has survived efforts by BHO to undermine his leadership, just as Clinton had successfully accomplished ~15 years ago. This panoply of comments illustrates how Ted Belman has provided a conduit for commentary, even from those [such as myself] who lack access to primary-data; it is advised that his efforts be received regularly by anyone who ponders this conundrum.
"Israel Gap" Widened: More Republicans Than Democrats Support Israel in Current Conflict {Because it starts @ the top, BHO is culpable for these data.}
Washington, D.C. (July 15, 2014) -- The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) responded to the release of a Pew Research Center poll today on the partisan gap in Israel-Palestinian sympathies. The Pew poll found that among conservative and moderate Republicans, sympathy for Israel was at 77% and 64%. Among moderate and liberal Democrats, that sympathy was at 48% and 39%. Thus, RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks said:
For years, public opinion polls have documented the large gap in support for Israel between Republicans and Democrats, with Republicans being far more supportive of Israel. This poll shows a gap of 27 points. At the very moment that Israel is under attack, with over 1000 rockets launched against her in the last 8 days, fewer than half of the Democrats polled say they have more sympathy for Israel than for the Palestinians.
It is a sad and sobering confirmation of the Democrat Party's shift over time away from support of Israel, especially at its grassroots. If support for Israel ceases to be bipartisan, the U.S.-Israel relationship - which is of so much benefit to both countries - will suffer.

Israel Update and Backgrounder: Operation Protective Edge
Deputy Consul General in Philadelphia, Elad Strohmayer, used latest technology to explain life in Israel under fire *which FNCs Bret Baier demonstrated on Monday+:
Israels Ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, was on Face the Nation Sunday morning (July 13) and, in addition to demonstrating Red Alert (Tzav Adom in Hebrew) he showed footage of an Israeli mission that was aborted to protect civilian lives. He noted that, during the past month, approximately 1200 rockets have been fired at Israel, including at Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa; the rockets being fired from Gaza are indiscriminate weapons that target civilians. These actions violate international law and Hamas and its allies are committing war crimes.
1870
Israel has made huge investments to protect its citizens; the Iron Dome missile defense system and extensive civil defense shelters. In contrast, Hamas has not built any shelters for its civilian population.
Instead of building shelters, Hamas devoted all its resources to acquiring and making thousands upon thousands of rockets as well as building its extensive terrorist infrastructures, including bunkers for hiding its members and cross-border tunnels to attack Israel. (It takes up to 500 tons of cement and concrete to build a single tunnel.) 1871
The above photograph was taken by a friend and sent with this message on 6.27.14.
I took this picture. I was in Israel with some American Admirals and Generals (retired) under JINSA sponsorship as the guests of their Ministry of Defense. At one point during a 9/10 day visit we got down to the Gaza border and this is one of the things we saw. A tunnel starting far back in Gaza - near a civilian area and extending nearly 3 miles long - 30 feet underground - and headed directly for a nearby kibbutz full of Israelis farmers - in Israel proper. The ultimate idea was for the tunnel to come up in the kibbutz where the civilian Israelis could be murdered or taken hostage. The reason for my sending you this picture is to show you what the Palestinians do when they do get the concrete they want (And, in fact, they get HUGE amounts of everything they claim they dont. The ones currently imposing a real, serious, closure of Palestinian access to everything are the Egyptians, but neither the media nor the United Nations have a word to say about that since the tough guys arent Jews). We were told that with the amount of concrete used to build the ceiling and walls of this terror tunnel, the Palestinians could have built a multi-story home for many families or a hospital for their people. But they arent interested in their people or in building a real home/state for them, theyre interest in killing Jews and destroying Israel. Anyway, this is one picture I can vouch for. I took it myself with my very best camera. My iPhone. It is less than a month old. DPS Note: 6.27.14
Hamas and Fatah formalized a Unity Pact on June 2, 2014. Money is in short supply and American taxpayers must stand up and say NO to funding this government. Sign the petition at www.notaxesforterror.com and learn how you can take action.
Hamas intentionally acts to increase the harm to its own civilian population by using them as human shields. Hamas has positioned rocket launchers, weapons stores, leadership facilities, command and control centers, communication facilities and other terrorist infrastructures among the civilian population of Gaza. The sites - and the sites of actual rocket launchers - are deliberately located in, near or under homes, schools, hospitals and mosques, leaving Palestinian civilians deliberately exposed to grave danger.
1872
Furthermore, Hamas actively calls on Gazans to go onto roofs after Israeli warnings are sent and its Ministry of Interior has ordered them not to evacuate targeted homes [original in Arabic].
Hamas, by using its civilian population as human shields and by targeting Israeli civilians, bears full responsibility for casualties on both sides.
Israel is making every effort to avoid harming civilians in the Gaza Strip. They are pinpointing its attacks against terrorist targets and warning civilians about upcoming actions. Extensive warning systems for the residents of Gaza include text messages, leaflets, warning shots and even making individual telephone calls to the inhabitants of targeted structures! What other modern army would go to such lengths to protect lives?
Most of the international community ignores Hamas' violations of international law and basic morality conferring in effect immunity upon them. The time has come to place the blame on Hamas' barbaric behavior towards Palestinians and Israelis alike. 1873
DETAILED INFORMATION
Hamas War Crimes:
Hamas' actions are in clear violation of the most fundamental principles of the laws of armed conflict, including the principle of distinction. This principle requires parties to an armed conflict to refrain from deliberately targeting civilian population or civilian objects. Likewise, it requires parties to distinguish its military operations and the civilian population, and to refrain from using the presence of the civilian population to shield military objectives. Hamas violated this fundamental principle in two main ways
By deliberately attacking Israel's civilian population, including by conducting suicide, rocket and mortar attacks.
By deliberately and systematically employing tactics which put the Palestinian civilian population in danger, including the launching of attacks from within densely populated areas, the use of human shields, deploying weapons storage sites and command centers in residential homes and in densely populated areas and commandeering sensitive sites (such as hospitals, private homes, schools and mosques) for terrorist use.
1874
These actions clearly constitute war crimes, as defined by international law and may also amount to crimes against humanity.
The principle of distinction is anchored in customary international law. It has been reflected in treaties and other sources of international law, including in several articles of the Additional Protocol to Geneva Conventions, 1979. [Israel is not a Party to the Additional Protocols but, nevertheless, it is Israel's position that a number of Articles in the Protocol reflect customary international law.] For example:
Article 48: In order to ensure respect for and protection of the civilian population and civilian objects, the Parties to the conflict shall at all times distinguish between the civilian population and combatants and between civilian objects and military objectives and accordingly shall direct their operations only against military objectives.
Article 51(2): "The civilian population as such, as well as individual civilians, shall not be the object of attack. Acts or threats of violence the primary purpose of which is to spread terror among the civilian population are prohibited"
Article 58: " The Parties to the conflict shall, to the maximum extent feasible: (a)endeavor to remove the civilian population, individual civilians and civilian objects under their control from the vicinity of military objectives; (b) Avoid locating military objectives within or near densely populated areas;"
Article 51(7): " The Parties to the conflict shall not direct the movement of the civilian population or individual civilians in order to attempt to shield military objectives from attacks or to shield military operations."
Article 12(4): "Under no circumstances shall medical units be used in an attempt to shield military objectives from attack. Whenever possible, the Parties to the conflict shall ensure that medical units are so sited that attacks against military objectives do not imperil their safety."
Article 53: "It is prohibited (a) to commit any acts of hostility directed against the historic monuments, works of art or places of worship which constitute the cultural or spiritual heritage of peoples; (b) to use such objects in support of the military effort;

Original message in Arabic
Hamas spokesman calls on Gazans to endanger their lives
Israel is making every effort to prevent uninvolved civilians in the Gaza Strip from being harmed. Earlier today (13 July), the IDF warned the local population in the northern Gaza Strip to seek shelter elsewhere. In response to heavy rocket fire from these areas, Israel is planning to target concrete terrorist infrastructure and operatives in that area but is attempting to do so with as few casualties as possible among the uninvolved civilians.
In stark contrast to Israel's concern for the residents of Gaza, Hamas officials continue to encourage the local population to be human shields and to endanger their lives. Today, Hamas's Interior Ministry Spokesman in Gaza called on the population in northern Gaza Strip to ignore the IDF's warnings and to stay in their homes. He also urged those who had already left to come back immediately. Hamas is once again guilty of deliberately endangering the lives of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

OFFICIAL STATEMENTS
PM Netanyahu's remarks at the weekly Cabinet meeting (Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, today (Sunday, 13 July 2014), made the following remarks at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting:
"Israel is conducting a vigorous military campaign against Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip. Hamas has chosen to attack our cities with massive and indiscriminate rocket fire. I said from the outset that we would respond in strength against this criminal firing at our citizens and this is what we are doing.
We are striking Hamas with increasing strength. We are hitting commanders, militants, arsenals and command centers. The IDF, ISA, security services, firefighters, the Israel Police everyone is doing their part and doing it in the best way possible. But one must 1878
understand how our enemy operates. Who hides in mosques? Hamas. Who puts arsenals under hospitals? Hamas. Who puts command centers in residences or near kindergartens? Hamas. Hamas is using the residents of Gaza as human shields and it is bringing disaster to the civilians of Gaza; therefore, for any attack on Gaza civilians, which we regret, Hamas and its partners bear sole responsibility.
The leadership of Hamas and the other organizations has chosen at a time when they are using the population of Gaza as human shields to hide under ground, to flee abroad and to deliberately put civilians in the line of fire. This is the entire difference between us and Hamas we are using defensive systems against missiles to protect the residents of Israel and they are using the residents of Gaza to protect arsenals of missiles. Nothing better underscores the difference in this campaign. Israel is a democracy that is fighting in a legitimate and focused manner against unbridled terrorists and no country in the world would do any less than we are doing to protect our citizens.
We will continue to act in a patient and level-headed manner, responsibly and vigorously, in order to achieve the goal of the operation the restoration of quiet for a long period while inflicting a significant blow on Hama and the other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip. The IDF is prepared for all possibilities.
Now, two other points. First, to the citizens of Israel: You are showing maturity and responsibility and I think that you are impressing the entire world. But I have one request: Do not be complacent. I know that there are people who are going out and who want to see the missiles. I ask you: Do not do this. I ask that you enter protected spaces. We are speaking here from a protected space. We ask you to be in protected spaces and to listen to instructions from IDF Home Front Command. Someone rightly said that, regarding civil defense, one needs not only an Iron Dome but iron discipline as well. You have shown this up until now. This could yet take a long time and we need both your support and your discipline.
The last point: Today in Vienna, the foreign ministers of the major powers are discussing the question of dealing with Iran's nuclear program. I would like to remind them Hamas and Islamic Jihad are being financed, armed and trained by Iran. Iran is a major power of terrorism that finances, arms and trains the terrorist organizations that we are fighting against. This Iran cannot be allowed the ability to produce fissile material for nuclear weapons. If this happens, the things that we are seeing around us and the things that are happening in the Middle East will be far worse. In recent years we have made various forecasts for the Middle East my colleagues here around the table and I and these forecasts have, to my regret, come true one by one. The prediction of Iran as a nuclear threshold state cannot be allowed to come true, it cannot. This cannot be and it will not be.
The President of the State of Israel, Shimon Peres, addressed the security situation and the rocket fire against Israel this morning (July 13, 2014) at the President's Residence in Jerusalem:
"Hamas terrorists aims to kill and injure as many innocent Israelis as possible. We do not wish to harm civilians. A reality in which 5 million of our people, including women and 1879
children, are running to bomb shelters is intolerable. We left Gaza of our own freewill, Gaza could have been prosperous and successful but instead it turned to terror. Gaza will be truly free when it breaks free of the shackles of the terrorists organizations.The IDF is fighting terror with determination and dedication. We cannot allow terrorism to drive our citizens into bomb shelters. There can be no compromise with terror."

Operation "Protective Edge" Q&A
How did it all start? Between 12 June and 7 July, Hamas and other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip fired 300 rockets at Israeli civilians. Although Israel showed great restraint and called for the cessation of the rocket attacks, Hamas kept firing them indiscriminately into Israeli towns and cities around the country. No country in the world would accept such a reality, and Israel is no exception. However, after three weeks of restraint, and the continuation of incessant rocket attacks, Israel was left with no other alternative but to respond in order to restore the safety of its civilian population. What is Israel's goal? The main objective Operation "Protective Edge" is to re-establish stability and quiet for the citizens of Israel once and for all. Israel cannot accept a reality in which millions of its citizens are subject to the whims of radical Islamic terrorist organizations, under immediate threat with as little as 15 seconds to find shelter from incoming missiles. How does Israel plan to achieve this goal? 1880
The only way to restore quiet to the citizens of Israel is by going after the Hamas aggressors who are entrenched in Gaza. Operation "Protective Edge" is aimed at significantly degrading Hamas' missile capabilities and destroying the terrorist infrastructures directed at Israeli civilians. Israel is not looking for a short-term understanding but wants a long-standing solution for the sake of the safety of its citizens. What are the targets of the Israeli airstrikes? As part of the operation, the IDF is selectively targeting mobile and concealed rocket launchers, Hamas leadership facilities, attack and smuggling tunnels, terrorist compounds, training sites, communications facilities, air defense elements and additional sites used for terror activities targeting Israel, including command and control centers. What are the long-term objectives of Hamas? Hamas is similar to other radical jihadi movements like al-Qaeda, ISIS and Boko Haram in its complete intolerance of the presence of non-Muslims in the Middle East. Therefore, it is no surprise that Hamas maintains close operational ties with jihadi terrorists in Sinai, including for weapons smuggling, and is getting weapons and support from Iran. According to Hamas' ideology, Israel has no place in the world and Hamas' declared goal is the destruction of the Jewish state. This is exemplified in the organization's covenant: "Hamas strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine" [meaning all of Israel, the West Bank and Gaza]. In addition, the organization promotes an antisemitic ideology that glorifies jihad and the killing of Jews. Why is Hamas shooting rockets at Israeli towns? Hamas' tactic of firing rockets at Israeli civilian communities did not end when Israel left Gaza completely in 2005, but rather intensified. Because of its commitment to the annihilation of Israel, Hamas views every Israeli man, woman and child as a legitimate target of its terrorist attacks by missiles, suicide bombings, murder and abductions. Hamas leaders have repeatedly stated that "all of the Israelis are legitimate targets" (Hamas spokesman Sami Abu-Zuhri, 8 July). In recent years, the Hamas terrorist organization invested heavily in offensive weapons, bringing the number of missiles aimed at Israeli towns to around 12,000. By firing rockets at densely populated areas in Israel, Hamas terrorists are attempting to cause as many civilian deaths as possible. Hamas' indiscriminate rocket fire is consistent with its ideology, which sees Israeli civilian casualties as military successes. Why have there been relatively few Israeli casualties so far in this confrontation? Due to the growing missile threat, Israel invested huge resources in establishing a two-fold defense system for its citizens: 1. Israel developed the "Iron Dome" missile defense system, which throughout this confrontation has provided outstanding protection to Israeli civilians, saving the lives of hundreds or more Israeli civilians. 2. Israel constructed a vast infrastructure of shelters and set up an early warning system enabling its civilians to find quick cover when terrorists launch their missiles. Were it not for the effective deployment of "Iron Dome" and the shelters, the number of Israeli civilian casualties in this conflict would be very high. Why have civilians in Gaza been hurt? The civilian casualties in Gaza are a direct result of Hamas' tactic of using the Palestinian civilian population as human shields for its terrorist activities. Hamas is committing a double war crime by deliberately targeting Israeli civilians while at the same time embedding its weapons, leaders, operatives and infrastructures in the midst of uninvolved Palestinian civilians. Hamas bears full responsibility for the civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip. Moreover, Hamas is also investing all of its resources in acquiring and producing weapons and rockets for attacking Israel, instead of caring for the welfare of the population of Gaza. 1881
In a show of utter disregard for the safety of its own civilian population, Hamas' Ministry of the Interior in Gaza has instructed residents not to heed Israel's warnings about impending attacks. Hamas also urges residents to actively form human shields, thus deliberately exposing them to grave danger. What measures is Israel taking to minimize civilian casualties in Gaza? Israel is doing the utmost to reduce to a minimum the harm caused to uninvolved civilians. It does so by employing stringent target selection procedures, by warning residents about impending strikes using phone calls, text messages and leaflets and by firing warning shots. Israel does all this despite significant tactical costs, foregoing operational opportunities and refraining from attacking known terrorist hideouts and weapons caches located in dangerous proximity to civilians. Why is it so difficult to de-escalate the situation? The main reason it is so difficult to bring an end to the violence is Hamas' lack of motivation to do so. Hamas' experience so far has shown it that it is not considered by the international community as accountable for its violations of basic morality and of international law. Are the current events part of a cycle of violence? One can be tempted to view this confrontation as the latest round in an imagined "cycle of violence". However, nothing could be farther from the truth since there is no symmetry between Israel and Hamas. Israel left the Gaza Strip completely in 2005 and has no claims on the territory besides the wish to see it develop as a peaceful and prosperous neighbor. If Hamas and the other terrorist organizations disarmed and stopped their attacks, Israel would have no reason to respond. Yet instead of developing the Gaza Strip, Hamas violently seized control of the territory, turned it into a terror base and established a terrorist dictatorship whose declared goal is the destruction of Israel.
This had been envisioned as a two-parter, with the first focused on the Israel-Arab [Gaza/Lebanon/Syria] conflict; as if the equivalent of 20 pages in Word couldnt suffice, hot-off-the-press follow-up info is provided regarding Israel [along with reactions to some of my blogging], after which there is extended discussion of domestic concerns [ the length of the prior entry, but covering multiple trenchant issues]. It has been suggested by a friend that it's time to make the establishment uncomfortable regarding both Jewish-related issues and generic concerns with BHO and his minions. To be explored infra is a fresh report from WaPo that concluded the GOP has an 86% chance of winning the Senate; we must now resolve to live until that fateful day when BHO will wish he had only been shellacked *as in 2010+.
An anti-BB reaction to one of my comments was based on the claim that the Iron Dome is a bluff; knowing that one cannot rely upon it entirely, it seems that one need not directly strike an approaching missile to destroy it, midair. Thus, my mild reply included an invitation for the writer to critique the prior Blast e-mail: All sarcasm aside, you must admit that Israel depends upon American support, and BHOs hatred of BB is well- established; thus, using the reference to the Iron Dome as metaphorically overhead, it would seem prudent to allow BB a certain discretion as he multitasks. Indeed, can you quibble with how he has positioned himself, here, with open-season looming against the Gaza-Strip? ,A previously-discussed essay that inter alia endorsed creating Kurdistan (The Minority Strategy: A New Path for American Interests in the Middle East) has been promoted by Israpundit; the question that arises is whether its tenets can be assessed by BHO and his ideologues [who have constantly chosen disparate pathways].}
Regarding MK-Feiglins Outline for a Solution in Gaza, my input noted the Jewish roots within the Gaza Strip and observed this essay includes a pathway-to-citizenship *which, following scrutiny, I cant find addressed in Caroline Glicks book+. I also wrote a follow-up comment regarding how BBs leadership has threatened Dem-POTUSs *Camp David II emerged shortly thereafter (when Clintons effort to undermine BB had proven successful) which, although Arafat showed his true- colorspresaging Abbasby walking away, this triggered concerted efforts to woo the PA while Barak was in-control.+.
Perhaps the media are becoming more enlightened, noting that Time-Mag gets it [lightning-struck?+; recalling the faulty arithmetic-game debunked in the prior Blast e-mail by Bard, even the title of this piece appears historic [What does it mean to say that casualties are disproportionate?]. This paradigm is debunked by quality-pundits [Number of Hamas Arabs vs. Israeli Dead] and in this letter-to-the-editor by Dr. Cohn:
To the editor, 1883
I thought I had accidentally stumbled into the Times sports section on the website when I came across the Graphic, The Toll in Gaza and Israel, Day by Day, complete with daily box scores of fatalities, [and] tallies of rockets fired by Hamas, and targets struck by Israel in the recent fighting. Presumably, since Hamas rockets have largely missed, the Times did not want to be accused of further distorting the totals by just counting targets hit for both teams. The count begins with the start of Israels recent offensive.
It is unclear if that means the Times considers the missiles previously fired this year from Hamas-ruled Gaza at Israelis to be the preseason, or whether this is the playoffs or maybe even the sudden death shootout, warranting the extra attention. There were 450 missiles fired into Israel this year alone from Gaza, and [as many as] more than 3000 in other recent years, before Israels leaders decided that could not continue. That is never tallied by the Times with running counts, however, until Israel seriously shoots back.
But this is not a sporting event. It is a war[,] and, tragically, in a war, civilians can be caught in the cross-fire. In this case, their Hamas government is using civilians as shields for their missilesdiscouraging them from fleeing to safetywhile using shelters for missiles and soldiers, instead of for the people they govern. Israel, of course, uses her missiles to protect her civilians.
Gazas Hamas rulers rejected a cease-fire and are doing their best to run-up the casualty point-score, even if they cannot score targets hit; they know newspapers like the New York Times will cooperate. Indeed, Hamas could not afford to buy such prominent coverage for their propaganda campaign as that which the Times is giving them for free.
I looked, by the way, to find similar box-scores of daily deaths in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq[,] or, for that matter, anywhere else. [But] I could not find them, despite their casualty totals being far greater, no doubt due to Israels extraordinary efforts to spare civilians instead of making them targets as in these other conflicts--or as intended by Hamas.
For over six decades Israel has struggled to find a path to peace with their neighbors without success. Watching the ongoing violence, it is clear why. Israel wants peace and Hamas wants Israel destroyed. What used to be one of the worlds great newspapers does not know the difference, encouraging Hamas that sooner or letter their plan can work.

This recapitulation of Israel-related items must include reference to Alan Dershowitz, prior to parsing the column he wrote today; it may be recalled that I publicly attacked him a few months ago when he was @ Penn [University Museum] to discuss the new anti-J Street film. I converted the atmospheric from placidity to forced-awareness that he admitted he was closer to J-Street (which he was supposedly there to lambaste) than to most people in the audience because [1]he adheres to BHOs social-agenda, and [2]he concurs with BHO that Judea/Samaria should be Judenrein. His reaction to my terse [1-minute presentation] persisted during his responses to subsequent questions. From my perspective, this was an achievement, when one recalls he is a deft attorney; perhaps he will next be prompted to recant some of his other anti-Zionism assertions, perhaps bringing-along other Lefties in the process. In any case, for context, note my prior elucidation of the prodrome, event and follow-up]; I add one observation: Dershowitz is a dangerous Jewish anti-Semite as long as he advocates for ANYWHERE on EARTH to be Juden-Rein *regardless of his rationalization+.
Although its tangential, its difficult to ignore the fact that Alan Dershowitz wrote a column today that recognized The current conflict between Israel and Hamas shatters myths, fully recognizing the accuracy of the triad of key-points that he is disseminating [truisms to Zionists, but one supposes he had to get there on his own+; it is recognized that Zionism must be bipartisan, but it would have been desirable for him to depart a bit from the safe-harbor of accusing Hamas of committing war-crimes.
One might conclude that, although his choice-of-words is sub-optimal [e.g., occupation+, the greater-good achieved is his having been forced by circumstances to abandon his fealty for Abbas *I have met Abbas and found him to be a decent man who genuinely wants a peaceful solution to the conflict, but he is not a man of courage who is prepared to stand up and tell the Palestinian people the truth about the current conflict.+. Thus, one could feel that his sudden recognition that the guy is problematic *Abbas has become part of the problem, especially in recent days+ either constitutes awareness of what he should long-ago have acknowledged, or constitutes his having relocated his personal views to a more proper postureor both.
Of course, the silence-is-deafening regarding his not having cited the existence of BHO, for the obvious follow-up query would be whether he can attest to BHOs having co-adopted his acknowledgment that the Palestinian Arabs are not currently feeling motivated to sign-off on any agreement with Eretz Yisrael that isnt edentulous. Perhaps he might wish also to concur that Palestinian genocide is real [according to Caroline B. Glick] and to prompt BHO to aver publicly, accordingly.
While Israel Targets Homes Of Senior Hamas Leaders, Hamas proposed a 10-year cease- fire in return for absurd conditions being met; ending Operation Protective Edge with 1885
resolutions and understandings similar to the Security Council resolutions [1701 & 1860], however, would constitute a political and security failure for Israel, even as Israel agreed to a 5-hour humanitarian cease-fire [despite the fact that Rockets Slammed into an Eilat Hotel]. Students of the conflict is being fought must note Hamas is the Norm and Israel is the Exception; also, students of all ages should be reminded of what BB said a half-decade ago MUST be done [destroy Hamasistan]. And know that Young Israelis are Fighting Hashtag Battle to Defend #IsraelUnderAttack. Finally, lament the fact that the U.S. is Selling $11B in Weaponry to Qater, the Gulf State That Supports Hamas, Syrian Jihadists . BB is juggling all of these forces-at-play and, thus, its hard to justify armchair-quarterbacking [here or in Israel]. {Also, Western Liberals Aid and Abet Hamas.}

Dovetailing with BHOs following from behind in Middle-East policy is how this approach infests other aspects of his foreign policy; note fresh manifestations of BHOs warped worldview [White House Boasts 'Tranquility of Global Community' and JOHN KERRY: I Get 'A Little Uptight When I Hear Politicians Say How Exceptional We Are'+. Locally, the PHILLY-VA CENTER IS IN DISARRAY [as the VA struggles with benefits payments]; Congressional staff making an unannounced visit to the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Regional Office on July 2 were told to conduct their work in a room wired with an active camera and microphone, according to the chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. There have been new revelations of fraud, 1886
mismanagement, and callous disregard for veterans; in spot checks in several VA benefit offices, investigators found more than just issues about date manipulation, saying there is evidence that sometimes veterans claims aren't acted on at all. In Philadelphia, officials "found mail bins full of claims and associated evidence that had not been scanned into Virtual VA since 2011. Other possible troubles included VBA staffers "inappropriately shredding or destroying" mail, staffers hiding incoming mail, workers not dealing with over 32,000 electronic inquiries from vets about the status of their claims, and evidence of improper payments. The VA wants to not deal with Vets; now that the presidents appointed a new VA Secretary nominee, the national media wants to not deal with the story.
Also, a 'Vortex of political hell' allegedly captured Philly's cigarette tax bill; inexplicably, a womans body was found IN A DUFFEL BAG on a Philly street. {Also the Presidential board backed SEPTA management in labor dispute.}
Statewide, CORBETT PLUNGED INTO A PUBLIC FIGHT FOR PENSION BILL [yay!] noting that Bonds Alone Could Worsen Pension Crisis and that PENSIONS A POCKETBOOK ISSUE; as the Budget bills signed by Corbett get legal scrutiny, SMITH & TURZAI discussed how the House GOP leads by example. Regarding pennsylvania-pensions and pennsylvania-government-spending, some simply say what, me-worry?
Regarding fracking, although the Health Sec said he was NOT aware of any fracking impacts on health, as Ex-health secretary, it was claimed that PA failed to address fracking concerns. So, what are the facts? Obama's Dept. of Interior Said Fracking does not Cause Big Earthquakes in Oklahoma and California. [Fracking may cause rumbling in and around areas when the water used in it is disposed of, but it doesn't have a connection to the increase in the sorts of earthquakes people are talking about in Oklahoma and elsewhere. Even activists at green groups such as Clean Water Action acknowledge that fracking isn't linked to serious earthquake activity.] Curiously, Colorado Dems Fear Anti-Fracking Ballot Measure Will Increase Republican Turnout.
Regarding politics, the PA AFL-CIO Released Statewide Endorsements; when the listed-republicans were attacked as being universally pro-labor, I wrote, Absent evidence to the contrary, it is inappropriate to lambaste these people as a group; on the other hand, if public positions regarding the issues blocking Corbett can be ascribed to any one of them, then it is appropriate to apply appropriate pressure. Also, a rather unique event may be occurring in SD-10, where Democratic Heavyweights are Leaning on Cickay to Drop Out; Cickay raised only $6,490 compared to McIlhinneys $112,895. [Naughton, meanwhile, ran a very competitive race against DCCC-backed Kevin Strouse in the PA-8 congressional primary, with this first-time candidate falling just about 800 votes short of an upset; she may have an unusual advantage if Cickay were to step aside because the 10 th State Senate district is comprised of central and eastern Bucks County, areas where Naughton performed well in her primary with Strouse.] Finally, regarding 2016, perhaps because Toomey Maintains a Wide Lead over Sestak, both Shapiro and Sestak Spoke-Out Against Toomey. {Also note that some feel AG-Kane, like others before her, is paying dues for getting near Sandusky.}
PAs Scandal-Sheet includes Bryon Noon, former director of the Dept of Public Welfare's now-disbanded Bureau of Employment and Training Programs Division] who was charged with conspiracy; meanwhile, State prosecutors are fighting state Sen. LeAnna Washington's attempt to move her corruption trial from Montgomery County to 1887
Philadelphia. And PA Capitol portraits now mention criminal convictions. {Also, note Pa.'s Constitution does not keep atheists from holding public office.}
Presumably trying to tack to the middle, Corbett appointed Dr. Carolyn Dumaresq [former executive director of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), the states largest and most powerful teachers union] as Acting Secretary of Education. Immediately, she will have to deal with the fact that PUBLIC PA COLLEGES' TUITION WILL BE RAISED NEARLY 3%. Presumably, she will be able to rebut the false narrative of the teachers unions regarding annual budgets for education; subtracting the stimulus- $ yields a steady increase during Corbetts term:
Regarding national-issues, Heritage-Actions weekly report *c/o Mike Henry+ defined five priorities; therefore, they are provided with elaborative data (accrued elsewhere):
Export-Import Bank - Fearing for the existence of their corporate welfare engine, Senate Dems have introduced legislation to reauthorize and expand the Ex-Im Bank; for example, Casey Called for Nonpartisan Reauthorization of Export-Import Bank. Opposition to Ex-Im is only gaining momentum in Washington and the Dems seem content to defend the crony institution on their own. This puts the conservative movement in perfect position to press forward on its pro-growth, anti-cronyism agenda. As Heritage Action CEO Michael Needham explained, Conservatives should happily let the left stand alone as the party of well-connected elites and special interests.
Religious Liberty - This week the Senate will consider Senator Patty Murrays (D-WA) Protect Womens Health From Corporate Interference Act which would require for-profit corporations, like Hobby Lobby, to provide and pay for the contraceptive coverage and other preventative health services guaranteed under Obamacare. In reaction to the Supreme Courts protection of religious liberty last month, the Senate Democrats are offering this measure, drafted in close coordination with the Obama Administration, to forbid any federal law from exempting an employer from abiding by the administrations contraceptive mandates. This legislation is an affront to the religious liberty of private enterprises across the country and should be shot down as quickly as it was dreamt up. Heritage Action will be key voting against the measure. Blumenthal Touched-Off a Political War Over Abortion Bill but there was, I believe a brief report stating that this initiative has [justifiably] stalled. [In other news related to the LGBTQ-movement, Archie [Andrews, of the comix] is to die by saving a gay friend and the CDC concluded the Nation's Percentage of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals is 3%, lower than Supposed; it may be true that the classic 10% figure relates to tendencies rather than actual lifestyle.
Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) - The House and Senate are considering different bills to extend this Act, a law created in the wake of 9/11 to backstop insurance companies in the event of significant, continued attacks. The law was intended as a temporary measure and has long outlasted its necessity. 1888
According to Heritage Foundation Research Associate David Inserra, TRIA is no longer needed and serves only as a form of corporate welfare to insurance companies. Several proposals before Congress seek to reauthorize this program for nearly a decade. The bill before the House, however, extends it only until 2019. Any measure passed by both chambers should wind down TRIA for good and allow insurance companies to stand on their own.
The Highway Trust Fund Bailout was passed by the House [Rep. Dave Camps (R-MI) H.R. 5021], using a series of budget gimmicks to refill the Highway Trust Fund with $10.9 billion. Despite there being Three Myths debunking the claim of a Highway Fund 'Crisis,' the White House implemented a highway funding blitz; thats why Heritage Action key-voted against this attempt to revive a broken transportation system by leaning on U.S. taxpayers, as it is irresponsible and sidesteps the opportunity for real reform. Members will have the chance to revamp the transportation system by igniting a real debate on the Transportation Empowerment Act (Rep. Tom Gravess (R-GA) H.R. 3486). Here's how the Mid- Atlantic delegation voted (w/ HAFA score):
Against the bailout: Scott Garrett (R-NJ) - 87% Andy Harris (R-MD) - 79% Rush Holt (D-NJ) - 20% For the bailout: Scott Perry (R-PA) - 75% Joe Pitts (R-PA) - 73% Leonard Lance (R-NJ) - 55% Tom Marino (R-PA) - 55% Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ) - 45% Frank Lobiondo (R-NJ) - 45% Chris Smith (R-NJ) - 44% Lou Barletta (R-PA) - 43% Pat Meehan (R-PA) - 41% Jim Gerlach (R-PA) - 40% Charlie Dent (R-PA) - 38% Peter King (R-NY) - 37% Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA) - 34% Jon Runyan (R-NJ) - 33% Michael Grimm ( R-NY) - 33% Alyson Shwartz (D-PA) - 15% Robert Brady (D-PA) - 14% Matt Cartwright (D-PA) - 14% Frank Pallone (D-NJ) - 14% Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) - 14% Donald Payne (D-NJ) - 14% Albio Sires (D-NJ) - 12% Chaka Fattah (D-PA) - 12%
Immigration - As the 50,000 [and counting] illegal entries continue to occupy resources at the border in Arizona, Texas and New Mexico, President Obama continues to do little to enforce the law. Last week, his administration called on Congress to provide $3.7 billion in emergency funds to better deal with the crisisa crisis that his policies created. By circumventing Congress and using the executive branch to 1889
embrace unlawful immigrant children as they cross the border, the number of unaccompanied alien children entering the country has spiked from 6,560 in FY 2011 to a projected 90,000 this year.
Presidential requests for emergency funds are typically the result of actual emergenciesnatural disasters or other catastrophic events. The border situation is the result of Obamas public refusal to enforce the law. If his Administration desires additional resources to confront the influx of illegal immigrants, they are free to request such funds through the regular appropriations process within existing budget constraints, reordering spending items and prioritizing law enforcement.
{For more on the border situation, read Heritage-Actions one-pager here.}

Illustrating how the anti-NRA atmosphere has had an effect is the fact that House Republicans Voted to Deny Second Amendment Rights to Millions; the amendment provides $20 million additional dollars for the federal government to acquire as many private medical records as possible and dump them into a national database. Once these records are obtained millions of citizens will be labeled mentally ill and denied their right to possess a firearm. The following recalls my letter-to-the-editor in the Annals of Internal Medicine:
Evidence that the mental-illness threat is largely conjured by those seeking to limit individual rights and to destroy the Second Amendment is embodied in research published by Paul S. Appelbaum, M.D. [in The American Journal of Psychiatry, VOL. 163, No. 8] that revealed that only 5% of those convicted of violent crimes were people who suffered from a mental disorder. He concluded [1]that the well-documented public perception of the mentally ill as dangerous persons is substantially exaggerated because the proportion of violence for which patients with mental disorders account is relatively small; and [2]that the disproportionate attention given to their acts of violence by the media and by politicians is unwarranted. 1892
Sarah Palins having simply raised the topic of impeachment was sufficient for this issue to be polled, as predicted and, probably, as planned *as discussed in a prior Blast e-mail]; Rasmussen discovered that, although Critics of Obama have called for his impeachment and for lawsuits challenging his executive actions, most voters nix both ideas and express preference to elect an opposition Congress. [!] As usual, Sarah opened a can-of-worms, for TWO-THIRDS OF GOP THINK IMPEACHMENT IS JUSTIFIED.
Daily Presidential Tracking Poll [plummeting] 36% Rate Obama Positively on the Economy [nadir] Favorables for Obamacare Tie Low for the Year [the base] 44% Think Obama Less Faithful to U.S. Constitution Than Most Other Presidents *the worst+ 46% Believe Obama Administration Has Encouraged Young Illegal Immigrants To Come [truism] 54% Think GOP Takeover of Senate Likely [will presumably rise after individual polling done]
Jeb Bush Ally Swiped at Palin: 'Nobody of Relevance' Talking About Impeachment - Establishment Republican personality and top Jeb Bush ally Ana Navarro went to the mainstream media on Sunday and suggested that former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was irrelevant. [This again reflects the existence of the Civil-War within the GOP, vide infra.] It must be recognized that whenever the notion is raised that Obama was the 'Manchurian Candidate,' this reflects generic unhappiness, manifest also when Obama is viewed as a pariah by Dems [who are voicing their displeasure with his policies by abiding by the input of campaign advisers who are telling candidates to avoid being photographed with him.] These are not merely concerns voiced by the GOP [Megyn Kelly ripped into Obama, saying, This administration lied.; Zogby Report Card: America is 'just giving up' on Obama; Pat Buchanan claimed Holder is Deflecting from Obama's 'Wholesale Incompetence'; and FOX NEWS' GOLER CRITICIZED OBAMA FOR 'BLOWING OFF BORDER PHOTO-OPS']. Meanwhile, BHO is busy with his fundraisers, issuing statements on LeBron James signing with the Cavaliers, golfing with sportswriter Michael Wilbon and Celebrating the Muslim Holiday of Ramadan in the White House; the latter was championed by India-born Valerie Jarrett, noting that the NEW YORK TIMES PROFILE SCRUBBED Valerie Jarretts RADICAL TIES [e.g., her Family was closely linked to Bill Ayers and Frank Marshall Davis]. {Also, a Famous Liberal Law Professor Warned of Obama Dictatorship and Urged Congress to Act.}

BHOs Scandal-Sheet continues to evolve
Overall, Dick Cheney averred BHO Has Exceeded Constitutional Authority by Use of Executive Power. Again, the WHITE HOUSE DEFIED A SUBPOENA FROM DARRELL ISSA regarding the White House Office of Political Affairs; thus, Issa ended the hearing with no testimony from witnesses. Again, the Group At the Center Of the IRS Scandal was Never Interviewed By FBI Investigators and the New IRS Form Proves President Fibbed About Individual Mandate Tax; also, Lois Lerners Former FEC Colleague mysteriously lost Emails too, after the FEC's ObamaGirl declared those on the RIGHT to be her ENEMY. Perhaps as a result, after Issa Blasted the FEC for Destroying the Hard Drive of a Lerner Protg, the House Voted to Gut the IRS of Over $1 BILLION in Funding.
Veterans For a Strong America filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for all the State Departments emails pertaining to the Benghazi attacks, particularly those from then Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton; also, inexplicably, a Benghazi Terrorist Attack Suspect was Found Dead in Eastern Libya. And an Obama DOJ Concession Allowed a Court to Throw Out Two Convictions of a Bin Laden Aide. Finally, EX-POW BOWE BERGDAHL RETURNED TO MILITARY DUTY @ a desk-job, while Bergdahl's Platoon Mates have Not yet been Contacted by Investigators.

Politico Hates the GOP - Part 11,385 - Another day, another front page at the left-wing Politico where 5 of the 6 top stories attacked Republicans. Look at the lead...Politico's targeting former-Vice President Dick Cheney like it's 2005.
Regarding the GOPs Civil-War, after LAURA INGRAHAM ENDORSED JOE CARR, he SPIKED IN A POLL. Also, a Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Poll Worker said he witnessed Mississippi Election Documents 1894
[related to the June 24 primary runoff election] being Thrown Away and that many absentee ballot envelopes and applications are missing, making them unavailable for review by McDaniel's campaign.
Regarding POTUS-16 R-candidates, Santorum said it is Time for GOP to move beyond Ronald Reagan [claiming labor should be valued as much as capital and that rising income inequality is a problem], but Santorum is also attempting to claim that the Founders Were Maybe Right to Limit Voting. [His 15 minutes of fame have long- since expired.] Perhaps because Chris Christie's Problem is that Nobody Wants Him for President, three Reasons have been articulated to Add Rob Portman to the GOP 2016 Short List; Portman has appeal and is an easy sell in a general election, if for no other reason than his home-state, Ohio. Finally, JOE SCARBOROUGH averred it is a 'FICTION' THAT RAND PAUL WILL BE 2016 NOMINEE, as evidenced by a RAND PAUL PILE-ON.
As noted earlier, the GOP has an 86% chance of winning the Senate and Chris Matthews 'Would Bet' on GOP Winning Senate; as a result, articles are being written about what will occur When the GOP takes the Senate [by Judd Gregg] noting, for example, the fact that Obama has opted-out of the role of governing through legislation.
Roll Calls Stu Rothenberg [a Dem] feels A GOP Gain of at Least Six Senate Seats Seems Very Possible confirming NROs impressions [per Jim Geraghty]:
Aside from a largely dismissed (on both sides of the aisle) New York Times/Kaiser Foundation April poll showing Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Ark., with a double-digit lead over his challenger, Republican Rep. Tom Cotton, surveys in the state have shown the race close for months. Some have had Pryor ahead, while others have shown Cotton leading.
My own reporting on the race leads me to believe that the contest is a statistical dead heat, though with Cotton holding a small advantage. (Not all of the polls, public and private, show this, of course.) . . .
Barack Obama carried Iowa twice, so Democrats ought to have a narrow but clear advantage to hold retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkins open seat. But the combination of an interesting Republican nominee, Joni Ernst, and Democrat Rep. Bruce Braleys early missteps has smart Democrats fretting about the contest.
Polling shows the race extremely close now, and while Braley, a trial lawyer and four-term member of Congress, was expected to be the better campaigner in the contest, that has not been the case.
Finally, he notes, Colorados Cory Gardner may well be the best GOP challenger in the country, and we are moving the race to Tossup/Tilts Democrat *from Leans Democrat+, which better reflects the overall competitiveness of the contest.
What does this all mean? It means that if Republicans work their butt off for the next four months, and avoid any stupid mistakes, theyll take the Senate.

Among Dems, 'MORNING JOE' LAUGHED-OFF DEM-SEN MARK BEGICHS re-election EFFORT TO RUN AGAINST OBAMA, touting his supposed independent streak; he then attacked his likely opponent as an outsider as a Dem Super PAC Dropped $3.5 Million on this Alaska Senate Race. These compilations of hyperlinks serve as campaign-grist; they are not comprehensive, so as to focus upon key-conclusions. Current hyperlinks and excerpts from the past two Blast e-mails are illustrative of [1]why BHO remains dangerous, [2]why it is hoped the electorate is catching-on, and [3]what must be done about these issues. To follow, first, are bullet-points regarding personal priorities:
Articles are being published that are promoting the establishment of Kurdistan [Turkey legalized peace talks with Kurds in step towards independence, US and Kurds may work together, Turkey legalizes peace talks with Kurds in step towards independence], efforts that reflect sentiments expressed by myself during the past half-decade [e.g., America Must Recognize Kurdistan - Jewish Policy Center]; this could [finally] become the crucial alteration in American policy that reverses establishment of the Caliphate.
Corroborating a concern I raised yesterday was an article published today [Key Amnesty Critic Warned a Border Bill Could Open Door to Dreaded Conference Committee] that noted A key veteran of the immigration wars on Capitol Hill is warning that legislation to amend a 2008 law [cited for cumbersome, years-long deportations] theoretically would open the door to a conference committee on the controversial amnesty bill. Indeed, I care not that Boehner is not optimistic about border deal, because that view could change suddenly, ambushing anti-amnesty Republicans [despite public opinion].
Regarding the Holocaust-minimization/denial [and anti-Zionism/anti-Semitism] oozing from Temple University Adjunct Professor Alessio Lerro, have communicated with a bunch of people *dutifully added to a cc-list], and it seems many people are engaged in practicing quiet diplomacy before unleashing more overt pressures. Specifically, some feel its hopeless to communicate directly with an anti-Semite, but I often learn more than I would teach when contending on this plane; therefore, were he to recant, Id want to invite him to chat with us regarding what might have motivated him to be so very incorrect [regarding both the Shoah and Israel, let alone Jews-in-Academe].
Thus, Ive communicated [(215) 204-1760] with the department in which he functions [French, German, Italian, Slavic - Temple University] and I may or may not receive a call-back; Ive used the white pages on the Internet to find three people living in Jersey with his name, but the only on-line phone-# was incorrect. Otherwise, I will NOT push-hard [working against type, you might say] because of awareness of other forces afoot. Because many people are off-campus until September, anything student-led cannot easily be implemented in the interim.
Im aware of other efforts afoot, including a facebook page [Time-to-step-down-Temple- University-Adjunct-Professor-Alessio-Lerro] and letters having been sent to the 1897
Trustees; Im not wont to depend upon purely spearheading a letter-writing campaign, and it must be emphasized thatas of Monday, per a secretaryLerro had yet to meet with the Dean of his department [conflicting schedules]. Im aware hes only adjunct, but the consensus-theme is emphasis on tarnished academic capacity in ANY context. {This justifies expenditure of mega-hours pushing for enactment of the new PA-mandate for Holocaust Education, for people such as Lerro must not be permitted to slip-through the cracks; also, in a fashion consistent with inclusion of the Shoah in a UNIT including genocide and human-rights violations *serving to contemporize the experience+ note that state-level Holocaust education increasingly is expanded to other genocides.}
Those who may wish to follow the comments provided [both by myself and others] on Israpundit can follow four issues [the Danon-firing, Al-Monitor, Dershowitz and European anti-Semitism, and the salutary effects of BBs actions] and monitor others on this website [such as Gaza, A Tragedy of Errors, The Long War Strategy: Israels War of Attrition Against Hamas, Rampant Anti-Semitism Is Flourishing across the World].
The GOP has an 86% chance of winning the Senate per the WaPo [which provides numbers that are (surprisingly) rarely nuanced+; citing more recent polling may improve matters for the Rs. For example, Udall is Down By 4 in the Colorado Senate Race despite the 65% stated-odds Dems had been projected to win. On the other hand, Dems are Ahead in Colo. and Mich. Senate Races according to a new NBC News/Marist survey, while Quinnipiac reported Udall is down by 2% [44% for U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner, the Republican challenger, and 42% for Sen. Mark Udall, the Democratic incumbent]; it may be recalled that Udall Stayed Away as Obama Raises Cash. Meanwhile, Nate Silvers 538 published today an update that has a self-explanatory headline [Democrats Are in a Perilous Position in 2014 Senate Races].
Compare/contrast North Carolina on these three platforms; whereas the WaPo claims the Dems have a 92% chance of winning, RCP views it as a toss-up and 538 negates a 0.7% lead in the polls [favoring Dems+ due to other factorsalso yielding a toss-up.
Headlines are predictable [ISRAEL LAUNCHED GAZA GROUND INVASION] and problematic [a Malaysian passenger plane carrying 295 people was shot-down over a town in East-Ukraine]; while Ukraine Says it 'Will Present Evidence of Russian Military Involvement,', the Blackbox was Sent To Moscow by rebels [who are in-control in this region]. Reminiscent of the fact that the rebels shot down another An-26 in rebel-held eastern Ukraine on June 14, killing 49 government servicemen, it seems separatists shot down the Malaysia Airlines plane by mistake, believing it was a large Ukrainian army transport plane; acquired via e-mail earlier this-a.m. was a report that Russia Is Firing Missiles at Ukraine.
Obama provoked fury in the U.S. by casually devoting mere moments to the deaths of 295 people aboard a Malaysian airliner on Thursday in Wilmington, Delaware, and then launching into jokes and his prepared remarks on the need to expand America's transportation infrastructure. {Theres no need to watch any more of his speeches because Every Obama Speech has identical elements; although the video was uploaded just prior to receipt of the above-hyperlink, it validates precisely what it BHO conveyed.} In general, The Goal of the Obama Presidency is both instilling social-democracy and supporting the Muslim Brotherhood; the latter has been pursued consistently. {Thus, as the Ukraine Crisis Unfolded, Obama Pressed Ahead with Burger Photo Op, Infrastructure Speech, and two Dem Fundraisers.}

The upper-echelons of BHOs government are increasingly embarrassed by shrouding inaction; Snowden said NSA Employees Pass Around Nude Photos, while the State Dept claims America Has Never Been More Engaged in More Places in the World and then obfuscates whenever asked specific questions [Highly Inappropriate: Foxs Shepard Smith Scolded State Dept. For Burying News On Downed plane; State Dept Wont Explain Why It Took So Long To Capture Benghazi Suspect; and Youre Not Answering: Note How State Dept. Official Responded to Reporters Simple Benghazi Question]. Also, a GOP rep called Petraeus DOJ probe 'suspicious' [because it holds a sword-of-Damocles over his head while multiple BenghaziGate investigations are conducted, prompting him to be supportive of BHO]. {Finally, for whatever reason, the Voice of Russia went Silent in Washington.}
Fitzpatrick called for a criminal probe of Philly VA office because of multiple problems which are specific to that entity [Over 500 Grievous Injuries or Deaths at VA Hospitals in 2013 and a VA hospital mistakenly pronounced veteran dead emerged today, but others have been cited in prior Blast e-mails]. Meanwhile, HOLDER'S DOJ is INVESTIGATING MISSING IRS EMAILS, but it has been silent after a Cabinet Secretary was Caught Asking an Employee to Campaign for Obama. Of course, AG-Holder disagrees with TURLEYS attack ON OBAMA'S USE OF EXECUTIVE POWER ['A VERY DANGEROUS POINT'].
Regarding Pennsylvania, Corbetts polling remains problematic; Nate Silvers FiveThirtyEight Forecasted low Re-Election Odds. My comment *Silver lining is that the margin dropped from 22% to 18.7%; if that trend continues.+ notwithstanding, Corbett is in trouble; Corbett was Called Dead Man Walking by National Journal. Meanwhile, his cause clbre remains validated statewide [PA pension costs pull from school districts, college students, turnpike and SCHOOL DISTRICTS: STATE PENSION CRISIS BOOSTING LOCAL TAX RATES]. {Also, Casey, still an abortion foe, joined push to overturn Hobby Lobby ruling, prompting Ponnuru to wonder if Casey remained an 'anti-abortion Democrat.'}
The Sandusky affair remains prominent in the news, as Matt Sandusky was interviewed by Oprah [he Talked of his bedtime 'ritual']. The stink from the Jerry Sandusky case has touched many people, including Corbett [the prosecutor whose people ultimately got Sandusky, but his reward from the average fan in Section 336 at Beaver Stadium seems to be that he's seen as the guy who lit the fires that consumed the career of legendary head coach Joe Paterno]; Graham Spanier [former Penn State president turned criminal defendant, who got a New York Times profile]; and former University Counsel Cynthia Baldwin [who testified that Spanier withheld information from her as she was trying to manage Penn State's compliance with the Sandusky probe]. As Attorney Walter Cohen advised Former Penn State counsel Cynthia Baldwin should not be permitted to testify, there remains credible concern regarding her professional performance throughout.
As noted earlier, the Gaza invasion has started; although The laws of war favor the terrorist aggressors and subvert the state fighting them, Israel is functioning methodically. I do not agree that BB adheres to The "Long War" Strategy [Israel's War of Attrition Against Hamas+ because I think hes going to retain Gazan territory, particularly because no Israelis reside there [having evacuated in 2005]. Although the lefties claim Israel's real purpose in Gaza operation is To kill Arabs [per Haaretz], most everyone else notes far more nobler motivations; inspiration regarding Jewish heritage remains overwhelming.

The conservative firebrand believes that any bill to deal with the unaccompanied migrant children at the border must also include language to stop a 2012 immigration directive from President Barack Obama a proposal unlikely to go anywhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate. Outrage, Resistance To New Immigration Bills Grows - Conservatives are beginning to organize against new immigration proposals emerging in Congress, including a forthcoming one from a working group put together by Speaker John Boehner and a just-released plan from Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn, Breitbart News has learned. As noted yesterday [based on the presentation by Heritage Action on Monday], there is GOP TURMOIL OVER TERRORISM INSURANCE - Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling is engaged in yet another behind-the-scenes power struggle with his fellow Republicans, this time over a government-backed program that helps insure property in the case of a large-scale terrorist attack. The issue is dividing the party, pitting conservatives against more traditional pro-business Republicans and members who represent areas with potential terrorist targets. It's also providing an unwelcome headache for a Republican leadership team that's trying to chart a glide path to Election Day. The standoff over the program is shaping up as another test for Hensarling, bringing to the surface simmering frustrations with his chairmanship of the Financial Services Committee among Republican leadership and some members of the panel.

These Blast e-mails are usually hyperlink-driven, in the sense that editorialization is minimized because res ipso loquitur *the articles speak for themselves, paraphrased+; as personal-priorities are satisfied *Kurdistan is imminent, PA will teach the Holocaust, etc.+, the new business that requires dissemination necessarily diminishes, for it is impossible to recapitulate each issue after emergence of a new-wrinkle. Thus, working-hypotheses are viewed as having been reinforced until/unless any type of disparagement must be rebutted; for example, each of Elizabeth Warrens 11 commandments of progressivism is easily rebutted, although [noting her prominence], their existence is dutifully noted. Therefore, the action-items theme remains dominant, with suggested actions explicitly provided; obviously, if their rationale is deemed problematic, received-input is processed/referenced accordingly. {Also, note 31 Reasons Philadelphia Is The Most Underrated City In America.}
Regarding the Illegals, it must be recalled that a concern I raised last Tuesday has been corroborated last Thursday [Key Amnesty Critic Warned a Border Bill Could Open Door to Dreaded Conference Committee+, which noted A key veteran of the immigration wars on Capitol Hill warned that legislation to amend a 2008 law [cited for cumbersome, years-long deportations] theoretically would open the door to a conference committee on the controversial amnesty bill. I care not that Boehner is not optimistic about border deal or that Border-Bill is emerging as major TEA PARTY VERSUS ESTABLISHMENT BOUT, because Boehner could suddenly flip, ambushing anti-amnesty Republicans [regardless of increasingly negative public opinion, as real-life recognition of BHOs plan emerges].
I have been blogging on two issues, debunking claims that there is any type of genetic explanation for European anti-Semitism and placing a positive-spin on Corbetts efforts, as Corbett struggles to energize the base *for reasons that explain Guzzardis initiative+. Also, know that Philadelphia mosque imams tried to cut-off mans hand.
Other potentially-overlooked issues of personal-interest include: RJ Reynolds hit with $23B in damages *recalling my effort to block the 98 Master Settlement agreement, supported by the tobacco-control establishment because inter alia it was numbed by $]; and Centenarian lawyer Murray Shusterman's secret: Keep going [a contemporary of my parents and, indeed, a pal of my (maternal) grandparents]; Why some Shore towns thrive as A.C. lags [debunking governmental dependencein NJ and PAon gambler-$, sold to voters repeatedly despite admittedly-low return (regardless of ethics).

Other potentially-overlooked issues of media-interest include: Ratings: Fox News Crushes CNN, MSNBC During Ukraine Crisis; RealClearPolitics.com is Now Owned by a Chinese Company; and, with the exception of FOX News, the mainstream media is helping Hamas perpetrate an enormous fraud [noting that an MSNBC guest said Hamas has already won because it will get a glow among Palestinians for attacking Israel]. Examples of the last point were noted over the weekend on both CNN [which constantly discussed civilian casualties in Gaza+ and MSNBCs Melissa Harris-Perry [who led a group of panelists, Bobby Ghosh, Hillary Mann Leverett, Earl Catagnus] to a consensus view that America/Israel want to perpetuate the conflict; prominent was a discredited leftie, Leverett, who claimed the people are Hamas and Hamas is the people.]
Always able to ID a pithy depiction of the gravamen of a current issue [despite the cacophony of the proliferation of the media] is Dr. Cohn:
To the editor, The Times writes in reference to Hamas rockets, From Gaza, an Array of Makeshift Rockets Packs a Counterpunch. But counterpunch is defined, To punch an attacking opponent; return an attack. Israel has been attacked by missiles fired from Gaza for over a decade. In the recent fighting, Israelis have tried at least twice to institute a ceasefire, but Palestinians continued their attacks. It is Israel that is counterpunching. If there were no attacks on Israel from Gaza, there would be no war. A better word for Palestinian actions since the end of Israels occupation of Gaza in 2005 is provoke, defined, to anger, enrage, exasperate, or vex.
John R. Cohn 1015 Chestnut Street Philadelphia, PA 19107 215-923-7685
To the editor, While treated as unrelated events, a direct line south can be drawn from the wreckage of the destroyed Malaysian Airlines Boeing 777 past Syria to Gaza. The instant death of 298 passengers and crew well less than the number of claimed Palestinian dead in over a week of heightened violence--demonstrates the destructive potential when unrestrained rogue elements obtain sophisticated weapons. In Syria, hundreds of thousands have been killed or injured and many millions made homeless by modern weapons in malevolent hands. In Gaza, Hamas has placed weapons and built fortifications in 1906
and below homes, mosques and schools, discouraging noncombatants from fleeing from announced Israeli actions against tunnels and weapon storage sites. Hamas extremists are limited not by motives but by the lack of the means to murder Israelis, although they have fired thousands of missiles at Israel attempting to do just that. No one can honestly claim that if Hamas had the means to shoot down an Israel bound airliner, they would not do so, just as the 911 terrorists did not hesitate to fly loaded airliners into the World Trade Center. What a sharp contrast to the army of Israel, which must be setting a world record for minimizing their sworn enemies civilian casualties, despite their opponents best efforts to increase them. As the Post implies, Israel can reasonably claim they have done more to protect Palestinian lives than Hamas.

Other potentially-overlooked reports of international-interest relate to Surrender by Another Name: Obama's Endless Iran Negotiations; defending the procrastination and ignoring another of BHOs red-lines, Kerry Angrily Sparred With Foxs Chris Wallace: You Like To Ask Questions, But You Dont Like To Get Answers! His filibuster was probably intended to avoid answering tough-questions; for example, he cited BBs warning of a bad deal being concluded in the future, despite the fact that BB was referring to the bad deal BHO/Kerry signed-off six months ago. He also would probably want to have avoided clarifying why he had badmouthed-Israel on a hot-mic, or that he had referred to three dead Jewish kids who were kidnapped as Palestinians. These concerns are captured in a piece [A Doubly Dangerous Iran] by Michael Hayden and Evan Bayh which makes these points: U.S. interests in the Middle East are not tangential to our national security but are essential to counterterrorism, thwarting nuclear proliferation and promoting stable, representative governments. It is equally imperative to prevent the turmoil in Iraq and Syria from easing America's red lines on Iran's nuclear program. Countering the nuclear challenge from Tehran is straightforward: The U.S. and its allies have to demand and devise an Iranian civilian nuclear program that cannot be exploited for military purposes. To achieve that goal, the White House must make clear that the hardened uranium-enrichment facility in Fordow must be closed and not transformed into an easily convertible research- and-development installation. The Arak plutonium plant has to be similarly neutered. And finally, the main enrichment facility at Natanz has to be dramatically scaled back and all enriched uranium shipped abroad for fuel reprocessing. One of the problems with the Joint Plan of Action - signed in late 2013 by Iran and six other powers, including the U.S. - is that it stipulates that any final agreement on Tehran's nuclear program will have a sunset clause. Upon its 1907
expiration, Iran would be free to build up an industrial-size program, giving it the ability to manufacture an arsenal of nuclear arms at short notice. The sunset clause must be removed. The Islamic Republic is a rash, revolutionary regime at odds with America's core interests in the Middle East. It is a state ruled by men such as Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei whose worldview is shaped by conspiracy theories and enduring enmity toward the West. Tehran seeks dominance over its Arab neighbors, sows discord through the region and actively supports terrorist organizations. It is only in this context that Tehran's quest for nuclear weapons can be understood.
It is desirable, at the onset, to cite Dinesh DSouzas book *America], a fortnight after having distilled the first five chapters thereof. [Chapter 6 focuses upon Native Americans, Chapter 7 addresses how half of Mexico was absorbed by the USofA, and Chapter 8 probes modern racism.] His breezy-style shrouds some startling assertions, such as the claim that the Civil Rights movement of the 60s was less of a reason for the erosion of racism than was repudiation of Hitlers ethnic policies *then, less than two decades remote]; he nails key-arguments, however, such as the classic line from BHO/Elizabeth-Warren *You didnt make this+ by noting that, to whatever degree supportive entities *such as teachers+ could be invoked to explain success, an individual has had to demonstrate how how he/she could capitalize on such potential-advantages. [BTW, I await his response to my concern with his claim that childrearing necessarily must be achieved in a heterosexual environment, remitted to his personal e-mail address.] Overall, it is reassuring that his movie-version continues to do well in box-office stats, for he combines a positive-assertive optimism with recognition of the grave task-at-hand *blocking BHOs every move+.

Noting JERRY SANDUSKYS SON ALLEGATION OF EVEN WORSE ABUSE, the puff-piece that doubles as a NY-Times Sunday-Mag cover-story about Graham Spanier is to be parsed with particular reference to its portrayal of PSUs Sandusky Scandal. The timeline therein does not probe the gaping-interval [the year 2010] during which AG-Corbetts office was seemingly inert *while engaged in the gubernatorial race+; the [dis-/mal-/non-+information provided to the Trustees throughout the bulk of 2011; the reporting- culpability of McQueary; and the faulty professionalism of Cynthia Baldwin. Instead, note key-quotes:
The case against Spanier is at best problematic, at worst fatally flawed. {He knew what was happening from the start, but was inert; this quote establishes the authors bias @ the beginning of the piece, explaining why so many concerns are subsequently avoided.}
1908
In March 2011, The Harrisburg Patriot-News broke the story that a grand jury was looking into allegations of sex abuse involving Penn State football legend Jerry Sandusky. Rumors about Sandusky and the investigation were already circulating on Internet message boards devoted to Penn State football. Spanier has been criticized for not informing the universitys board about the investigation more fully, but the board, which had a reputation for passivity, did not aggressively seek information even as leaks trickled out. {Board members dispute this portrayal, claiming they were stonewalled.}
Spanier told me he was stunned at the breadth of the charges against Sandusky. He had known that the former coach was being investigated for an incident involving one child in a university locker room. Now he saw it was much more. But neither Spanier nor anyone else seemed to realize, at least at first, that the indictment of the two administrators broadened the narrative it brought the university into the story. You could chalk this up to Penn States insularity and to a lack of sophistication on the part of Spanier and other decision makers or perhaps to their wishful thinking that this would all somehow quickly blow over. On the first day, the magnitude of this was not completely felt, Spanier said. We had no idea that two or three or 400 reporters would descend on State College, and we would have to close off streets to accommodate satellite trucks. {One wonders if the author ever heard of the concept of psychological denial, particularly because of Spaniers admittedly-guilty-knowledge.-
The next morning, Spanier said he submitted a resignation letter to the trustees, which they did not release. That night, the trustees announced that Spanier was out. {Omitted from this terse narrative is that JoePa had announced his retirement [after the few games remaining in the season] that Wednesday-afternoon; that both were canned a few hours later; that Corbett (remember the kids) was a key-agitator in this regard; and that the Trustees never requested an internal investigation (even cursory) prior to acting precipitously (unless, of course, they were made aware of undisclosed data via the AG/Governor). All these factors affect how one perceives Spaniers behavior (e.g., whether his sense of bewilderment was justifiable); none of them appear in the piece.}
The practice of commissioning independent reports, like Freehs, goes back decades. The investigations rarely follow the rules that pertain to criminal prosecution in U.S. courts; for example, individuals implicated in wrongdoing, who would be called defendants in a courtroom, do not usually get to mount a defense. The resulting reports are often more akin to indictments than verdicts. {Impugning the report without citing any defects therein (like challenging applicability of any appended e-mails) is bad; claiming people were denied the opportunity to provide their own versions (without proof) is worse; and implying the upshot of the report was merely to render charges (without noting suggested reforms therein, see pp. 127-144) is worst.}
Some of the writing was of the type meant to impress, or perhaps overwhelm, a reader with the firepower that his team brought to the job. The report states that investigators conducted 430 interviews of key university personnel and other knowledgeable individuals and that over 3.5 million pieces of pertinent electronic data and documents were analyzed. (This would have required examining an average of 15,000 items a day over the course of the investigation, which lasted nearly eight months. It seems likely that many of the documents were merely scanned electronically for 1909
keywords.) {Ignored were key-data on the time-line regarding behavior of Spanier and Baldwin; the former was in-the-loop and the latter was increasingly becoming a blocker. Meanwhile, ignored on this time-line (see pp.20-30) are little-details such as presence of Baldwin @ the Grand Jury testimonies of Schultz/Curley, despite her not representing either (in a legal sense). The report, therefore, is indeed impressive.-
The criminal charges against Spanier stem largely from emails between Schultz, Curley and Spanier. One set of emails related to an episode in 1998 in which Sandusky was said to have showered with a boy in a Penn State locker room and hugged him. Spanier was copied on one email from Curley, the athletic director, that was elliptical and did not include Sanduskys name. A second said that the incident had been resolved satisfactorily.Spanier told me that he religiously returned emails addressed to him, but not always those he was copied on. In his grand-jury testimony in 2011, he said that he had no memory of any allegations in 1998 against Sandusky, and after the emails came to light, he discovered that he had been traveling on university business in Europe when the second one landed in his inbox. ,Even if he was only cced, he didnt deny having read this e-mail; furthermore, the first sentence has a grammatical-error (between should be among because three people were involved).-
It is not clear what Spaniers active involvement in the 1998 case would have achieved. The allegations against Sandusky that year were investigated by campus and the local police and a caseworker from the states Department of Public Welfare and he was not charged. {He could have oversighted the way the campus-police dismissed them.}
Spanier could face a more difficult challenge explaining an email from 2001. It relates to the best-known chapter in the Sandusky affair, involving a Penn State assistant coach, Mike McQuearyMcQueary went to Paternos house the next day to report what he saw. Soon after, Paterno talked to Schultz and Curley. Spanier said he never spoke to McQueary, but the two administrators informed him about what they were told. The key question, if Spanier and his co-defendants come to trial, is likely to be not what McQueary witnessed, but how he later described what he witnessed. Did he use a sufficiently descriptive term for what he apparently believed he had seen anal rape or did his squeamishness cause him to use less stark language? And was that same language passed up the chain of command to Spanier? {No, the key-question is why this alleged-workaholic didnt speak directly with McQueary or Sandusky.-
Spanier and the two administrators agreed on a plan: They would inform the board chairman at Second Mile (the charity that Sandusky founded), alert child-welfare authorities and tell Sandusky that he could no longer bring children into Penn States locker rooms. Not long after that, Curley wrote to Schultz and Spanier to say that he had changed his mind about going to the child-welfare authorities. Instead, he would urge Sandusky to get help. This approach is acceptable to me, Spanier wrote in response. The only downside for us is if the message isnt heard and acted upon, and we then become vulnerable for not having reported it. But that can be assessed down the road. The approach you outline is humane and a reasonable way to proceed. {One would have expected a victim of child-abuse would have been eager to scrutinize the issues raised by allegations against a perpetrator of child-abuse, instead of accepting erosion of an already-enervated plan.} 1910
Spanier told me that his meetings about Sandusky were brief, came amid the crush of other university business and coincided with another troubling issue allegations that a Penn State employee had embezzled money. The life of a university president is you have things coming at you all day long, he said. Its one crisis after another, one issue after another. {Citing a mutually-exclusive issue is tangential; he wanted to deny.-
Shouldnt this background have made him more alert to Sandusky even if the reports he heard were nonspecific or couched in euphemism? Shouldnt he have at least pressed for more information? He said he would have if he had been told more to begin with. Im an intervener, he said. If I see something going on in the street, in the community, I intervene. . . . If Gary Schultz or Tim Curley had said to me anything about child abuse, sexual abuse, anything criminal, even had hinted about that possibility, of course we would have said something. The encounter in the shower, he said, was described to him as horseplay, which he believes came from Paterno, relating what he heard from McQueary. I can hear Joe Paterno using that word, he said. I dont think Tim and Gary made that word up. I think Joe used it. {Palpable obfuscation emerges, as Spanier claims he was insufficiently informed about horseplay, without querying them because, allegedly, no one had hinted about the seriousness of the allegations.-
He said he had no memory of writing the email in response to Curley in 2001, but now regrets that he used the word vulnerable, which many have taken to mean that he already knew that something inappropriate or criminal had occurred. I didnt, he said. I think what it meant was that if he didnt get the message and stop bringing boys into the locker rooms, we could be open to criticism. Obviously, in retrospect, using the word was a bad choice. But who would think that 13 years later someone would focus in on that one word? {The focus is not only on one word; its upon his inaction as shown, also, per the time-line, by his failure to inform the Board of what had been occurring.}
The shower took place in a coaches locker room; Spanier said he was told that it had occurred in one of Penn States more public locker rooms. Even so, he said: We decided we dont want him bringing kids into the shower again. It doesnt look good. It doesnt feel right. {If he was sufficiently sensitive to his emotional reaction to what had been occurring, its seriousness clearly had been cognate; yet, he had remained inert.}
Spanier is still incredulous that he has been charged criminally. What does this have to do with me? he said at one point. I never saw anything. I never spoke to a kid, a witness, a parent, Sandusky, McQueary, Paterno. {And whose fault is that?}
One of the most challenging of the tasks confronting the Penn State community is transforming the culture that permitted Sanduskys behavior, the report said. It defined the university community as current students, faculty, staff, the administration, board of trustees and alumni which would include approximately 630,000 living Penn State graduates scattered throughout the country and world. (My wife is a Penn State grad, albeit one who never attended a Nittany Lions football game.) {Here, the hyperbole was indeed excessive, for the key-point is to focus upon how these administrators were provided aegis to do whatever they desired, rather than upon faculty, friends, fans, etc.}
1911
Spanierdid not ask questions or show any curiosity, and only he knows why. No one went looking for the boy in the shower in 2001 or even tried to find out his name. Whether that equates to criminal behavior is yet to be determined. Wes Oliver, a law- school professor at Duquesne, in Pittsburgh, [said] I dont even know what guilt means in this case. What exactly does it mean to fail to supervise a former coach who you happen to know brings kids to your campus? What kind of duty exists there? If anything, its a sin of omission. There are sins of omission for which people are punished, but I dont know if that will happen here or if it should happen. ,How bout failure to report a potential crime to the appropriate (indeed, ANY) authorities?}
I remain highly critical of Cynthia Baldwins behavior; to-follow is the only on-point reference thereto. {This suggests she should have ensured Spanier knewfrom the get-go, particularly noting her antipathy towards his credibilitythat he may need to retain separate counsel BEFORE testifying}:
The key point of contention involves a lawyer who Spanier believed was representing him but later testified against him. In 2011, when he appeared before a grand jury sitting in Harrisburg, he was accompanied by Cynthia Baldwin, Penn States general counsel at the time, a former justice on the states Supreme Court and a past chairwoman of Penn States board. In chambers, and outside Spaniers presence, the supervising judge, Barry Feudale, asked, Cindy, just for the record, who do you represent?
The university, she responded, according to a transcript of the proceeding.
The university solely? he asked.
Yes, I represent the university solely, she said.
A few minutes later, in the grand-jury room, the prosecutor asked Spanier to identify his counsel before he began his testimony. Cynthia Baldwin, sitting behind me, he said.
It is not uncommon for corporate lawyers to sit in grand-jury proceedings to represent witnesses who are testifying as agents of the corporation. This is what Baldwins lawyers have argued she was doing. Baldwin would later give grand-jury testimony against Spanier. According to the transcript, she revealed details of conversations with Spanier as she prepped him first for an interview with investigators looking into the Sandusky case and later for his grand-jury testimony. She said Spanier had withheld information that she had been asked to gather by investigators targeting Sandusky, and that she did not consider him an honest man.
My viewpoint hasnt changed; JoePa has been inappropriately besmirched [noting that he never sent or received e-mail]; for example, Curley wrote an e-mail to Schultz [see p. 20] that reflects the fact that JoePa had, indeed, tried to follow-up reports of Sanduskys misbehavior *Coach is anxious to know where it stands. Recognizing this schism between the Football Program and the PSU-Administration yields the justifiable concern by JoePas adherents that the NCAA shouldnt have wiped-out the victories *undermining the winningest-coach designation+; one could argue there was an effort to engulf his earned-reputation for having prioritized citizenship and academics, even as he waged battles for the type of recognition thatin the 70sroutinely was bestowed upon non-conference programs. Also, 1912
more scrutiny needs to be trained upon others who didnt report to authorities [McQueary and two janitors] and, of course, on Ms. Baldwin [for having participated in the cover-up throughout 11+. Finally, as emphasized earlier, Corbett needs to explain why he didnt pursue the matter aggressively during 10.
Regarding Congress, just-in-time to influence the upcoming reauthorization-vote, announced was ISSAs PROBE OF POSSIBLE EX-IM BANK CORRUPTION; meanwhile, predictably, the SENATE OKed TERRORISM INSURANCE BILL, giving the federal insurance backstop seven more years. [Businesses, owners of sports stadiums and other groups that insure against the risk of terrorist acts urged lawmakers to renew the program before it expires at the end of the year; the extension must be approved by the U.S. House of Representatives, which has struggled to agree on a reauthorization plan.] ,Both issues were discussed during last weeks Heritage-Action Conference-call.}

BBs remarks at the start of the special Cabinet meeting (Friday, 18 July 2014):
"This is the tenth day that Israel's cities have been under terrorist attack. The IDF is operating against Hamas and the other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip from the sea and air, and now on land as well. Last night, our forces commenced a ground operation in order to strike at the terrorist tunnels that run from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory. I remind you that it was through such a tunnel that Hamas terrorists infiltrated into our territory yesterday morning in order to perpetrate a large scale attack against Israel's citizens. The IDF successfully thwarted this terrorist act.
Because it is not possible to deal with the tunnels only from the air, our soldiers are now doing so on the ground. Even here there is no guarantee of 100% success, but we are doing our utmost in order to achieve the maximum. To our sorrow, a soldier has already fallen and on behalf of all the ministers I send condolences to his family. I am certain that I speak on behalf of all Israelis. 1918
My instructions, and those of the Defense Minister, to the IDF, with the approval of the Security Cabinet, are to be ready for the possibility of a significant expansion of the ground operation, and the Chief-of-Staff and the IDF have prepared accordingly. Last night's operation came after Israel agreed to the Egyptian ceasefire proposal and to the UN initiative for a humanitarian truce. In both cases, Hamas continued firing. We chose to commence this operation after we had exhausted the other possibilities, and with the understanding that without action, the price that we would pay would be much greater.
Even before we embarked on Operation Protective Edge, I spoke with major world leaders. I explained to them the impossible situation the State of Israel was facing and our need to defend our people. Since then, through constant, methodical diplomatic and media activity, we have been creating the international space which is not self- evident so that we can take systematic and strong action against this murderous terrorist organization and its terrorist partners. Naturally, there are considerations and facts that I cannot reveal to the public; these are complicated considerations that include, at the same time, many fronts and arenas in Israel and around the world. However, the supreme consideration that guides us is to restore the security to Israel's citizens and to restore quiet to the country.
The IDF is a moral military without peer; it does not aspire to harm any innocent person. We are operating only against terrorist targets and we regret any inadvertent civilian casualties. It is the terrorist organizations which attack our cities and our civilians and use their civilians are human shields that bear the responsibility for casualties among non-combatants.
Now I know that in such campaigns, global public opinion always receives a distorted picture of the campaign. This is unavoidable. But, unlike in the past, this time there are many in the international community who understand that it is Hamas and Hamas alone that is responsible for the victims.
This is important for the State of Israel.
I would like to appeal to you, citizens of Israel. A terrorist war has been forced upon the state and this time as well, we will meet the challenge. Your steadfast fortitude gives us the ability and the time to take strong action against our enemies, and we are all proud of you. And again, I must ask that you strictly follow the instructions of IDF Home Front Command. I think that, today, it is hardly necessary to say how important this is, and I know that you understand this.
I have met with the commanders who are leading the IDF operation, uncommonly brave, determined and motivated commanders, with strong values. I am impressed by the motivation of our soldiers, both conscripts and reservists, and their desire to take part in the campaign. They understand that their mission is to defend Israel's citizens. Our fighters all know that they are fighting for the most just of goals the defense of our shared home. At this time, we are all united behind the soldiers and commanders of 1919
the IDF. And I know that I speak for all of us as we support them in their mission and pray for their welfare.
What started as a focused-summary of suggested action-items grew exponentially [again] throughout the past few days; thus, this comprises a succinct summary of the salient issues covered in the three Blast e-mails emitted during the past few days [plus an extended essay unavailable on the Internet]. What has perhaps been implicit in the choice of hyperlinks is now explicit in this editorialized prcis; therefore, this constitutes a Dear John-type letter/pledge regarding provision of extensive-references, for compiling and formatting such a comprehensive set of topics is simply too time-consuming.
In many respects, this has been my contribution towards desirable goals *Zionism, TEA-Party Movement, Kurdistan-promotion, Holocaust-Education]; nevertheless, it will be assumed that the reader will now be able to juxtapose references by consulting [time-permitting] major news-sites in PA [PoliticsPA and KeystoneReport], America [Drudge and Breitbart], and Israel [DailyAlert, IMRA, DebkaFile, JPost, ArleneKushner, PamelaGeller, RobertSpencer]. Essentially, having generated ~3K pages of tight hyperlinks/graphics during the past year, its time to provide bottom-line info [and then be poised to document suggested interventions, if/when challenged].
Yet, when key-issues are encountered [such as the need to expose a disingenuous news-source], they will be tackled aggressively; overall, it will be assumed that the reader will provide anything felt to be discordant with the points conveyed to ~1000 people [half on Facebook, although no effort has been made to survey reactions]. Candidly, playing whack-a-mole with BHO during the upcoming two years promises to be exhausting, inasmuch as it remains virtually impossible to find any area of agreement with him, whatsoever. Quoting Godfather-III, Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
International
Islamism: Global efforts must be mustered ASAP to fight establishment of a worldwide Caliphate, for challenging Western Civilization by trying to destroy [physically and psychologically] the Judeo-Christian Ethic constitutes a real and present danger, particularly noting the swath of efforts from Africa to Asia.
Israel: There must not be an immediate cease-fire [advocated by BHO, via chat this-a.m. with BB]; instead, Hamas must be dismembered while Gaza sustains minimal civilian-loss. IMHO, this conflict does not demonstrate the ability to depend upon the Iron Dome [as has been touted], noting stats in yesterdays IDF-summary *Since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge, more than 1,770 rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip at Israel, out of which 1,333 rockets hit the Israeli home front; yet, only 360 rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome.+.
In discussion of the fact that 13 ELITE IDF SOLDIERS KILLED AFTER GAZA TERRORISTS FIRE MISSILE FROM CIVILIAN HOUSE, assumptions contained in prior Blast e-mails seem to have been confirmed by an anonymous officer: We are no longer looking at just dismantling the tunnel network [from Gaza to Israel]. The goals of Operation Defensive Edge are now to cripple Hamas, so they will not be able to strike us again in a 1921
few years. He also said the offensive into Gaza was likely to now last several weeks, and that the IDF was contemplating the creation of a one-mile buffer zone into Gaza.
Kurdistan: This independent entity must be established ASAP; just like an Israeli victory in Gaza will show the world what America used to be able to do, establishment of a non-Islamist country within the Middle East will show the world how prosperity could emerge if everyone rises to fight the Caliphate.
Putin: If, indeed, USA-Russia at 'Cold War Levels,' someone should tell BHO, perhaps @ the 19 th Hole.
The UN: Through UNRWA, the UN again revealed itself to be two-faced [returning rockets stored in schools to Hamas after having apologized to the Israelis for having suddenly discovered their existence].
National
BHO: He is dangerous on all fronts *ObamaDontCare, Common Core, NSA, guns+ and must be stopped; perhaps his Scandal-Sheet will catch-up with him [noting, for example, one-month deadlines facing the IRS in two D.C. Federal Courtrooms+, but the GOP cannot aspire to glide to the November midterms.
Illustrating the dangers associated with Common Core is this distillation of 7 Major Differences Between No Child Left Behind and Common Core/Race to the Top. And, true-to-form, The Obama Admin Just Exempted US Territories From Obamacare. {Note, also, that the NSA Stores 80% of all Phone Calls, Not Just Metadata.}
The Media: It has demonstrated the need to be monitored [excluding, prominently Fox], both due to what is promulgated [and how] and due to what is censored [and why].
Heritage-Action: Anyone who wants to listen to the half-hour discussion among Sentinals may dial-in on Monday night at 5:30pm [1-800-757-3718]; you will be treated to a helping of useful-info unavailable elsewhere, oriented towards promotion of true-conservative viewpoints.
Illegals: NO Amnesty-related legislation can be promulgated, lest it be hijacked by those who want a comprehensive plan enacted *via a House/Senate Conference committee+; emphasis must be placed on law-enforcement noting, for example, everyone arriving via Mexico can be assumed to be Mexican [and promptly about-faced and reverse-marched] simply by emphasizing law-enforcement as a priority. {Also note, a TX TOWN SWAMPED WITH DEAD BODIES, 911 CALLS 70 MILES FROM BORDER.}
Talk radio host Glenn Beck criticized Fox News and Breitbart for their reporting of his plan to visit the border to bring food, soccer balls, and teddy bears to illegal immigrants on the southern border. Also, The True Size of the Adult Immigration Wave, Revealed.
Elizabeth Warren: It has been alleged that her List for Progressives Is eerily similar to Hitlers Nazi List; perhaps this may explain why, suddenly, JERRY BROWN may initiate a WHITE HOUSE RUN.
GOP: Notwithstanding the civil-war [and the need to support Amash, McDaniel, Wolf, Carr, etc.], to pick-up at least six seats and the Senate majority, Sheldon Adelson may donate as much as $100 million; the former issues must be pursued, mutually-exclusive of whatever may subsequently transpire.
Statewide & Regional 1922
Corbett: It is hoped that his emphasis on Pension-Reform will bear fruit [for PA and for his campaign]; after having analyzed the puff-piece published today by the NY-Times, my view remains that JoePA was unjustly pilloried and that Corbett must hold an endless press-conference regarding two facets of what transpired [assigning 3 part-timers throughout 2010 and firing JoePa abruptly]. {And SOMEONE should scrutinize Cynthia Baldwins behavior (2010-2011), for she allegedly aided/abetted the cover-up.}
Log-Cabin GOP: When things in Harrisburg die-down to a dull-roar, will obtain input from Rep. Vereb regarding the next-step in the process of establishing a PA Chapter, to dovetail with the GOP.
Blogging: An article on Corbett [PA-Gov: FiveThirtyEight Forecasts Corbetts Re-Election Odds] has given David Diano a conduit to reveal Dem talking-points, which I continue to expose as facile and incorrect.
Alessio Lerro: Ill to chat with him one-on-one [assuming I receive a call-back from his Department @ Temple U] to achieve conflict-resolution, in conjunction with whatever else others may be pursuing.
Iran and POTUS-16
NROs Jim Geraghty wrote this Morning Jolt last Thursday, just prior to the Ukrainian SAM-Terrorism:
The Obama Administration Will Never Walk Away from the Negotiating Table with Iran On Monday, the word was that the West's negotiations with Iran weren't going well: "The mood of the talks has gone from optimistic weeks ago, as Iran made concessions on items such as the future of its Arak nuclear reactor, to pessimistic in recent days as it becomes clear a giant gap remains on the crucial question of how much capacity Iran will retain to enrich uranium for what it insists is a peaceful nuclear program." Yet as the deadline approached, President Obama and his team have decided things are going well enough to extend the deadline . . . President Obama said Wednesday that there had been "real progress in several areas" in negotiations with Iran over its disputed nuclear program, and he hinted that he might extend the talks beyond the deadline on Sunday in order to reach a final agreement. "We have a credible way forward," Mr. Obama told reporters during a short briefing at the White House, although he said there were some "significant gaps" between the two sides and more work to do before a deal could be struck. "Over the next few days, we'll continue consulting with Congress, and our team will continue discussions with Iran and our partners as we determine whether additional time is necessary to extend our negotiations," Mr. Obama said. If you're always willing to extend the deadline, then it's not really a deadline, is it? On paper, we're watching negotiations between two parties with diametrically opposed 1923
interests -- we want the Iranians to have as little of a nuclear program as possible; they want one as big (and easily switched to military applications) as possible. But in practice, we've got two parties with the same interest: the Obama administration wants negotiations to continue so they can claim their approach is working, and the Iranians want negotiations to continue so that their program keeps advancing and those centrifuges keep spinning. So both sides want the talks to go on indefinitely. At this point, we're negotiating about the conditions for continuing negotiations. What would it take for President Obama, John Kerry, and the rest of his administration to conclude, "These guys aren't serious about a deal, they're stalling for time, and we're playing into their hands by continuing these negotiations"? It seems that as long as the Iranians don't reach across the table and behead the other negotiators, this administration is willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I've gotten spam offers that seem more reliable than the Iranians' promises. Eli Lake points out one more aspect of the negotiations where time is not on our side: As U.S. and allied negotiators try to hammer out a nuclear deal with Iran this week in Vienna, they will have less economic leverage on their Iranian counterparts than they had a year ago. That is the conclusion of a new study from Roubini Global Economics and the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, two groups that have analyzed Iran's economy -- and the international sanctions imposed on the country's banks, oil exports and leading regime figures. Their report concludes that in the last year as the United States and other Western countries have begun to ease some of the sanctions on Iran as an inducement to negotiate an end to the country's nuclear weapons program, the Iranian economy has begun to recover. . . . the economic sanctions that President Obama has credited with forcing Iran to begin these negotiations have appeared to lose their bite, according to the study that is scheduled to be released Monday. The lies of this administration will hurt all of us, but perhaps none are more damaging than the lies they tell themselves about how well their policies are working. Are Young Democrats Not That Liberal on Economic Issues? Here's Thomas B. Edsall in the NYT. Hmm: Back in April, Pew researchers wrote that "huge generation gaps have opened up in our political and social values, our economic well-being, our family structure, our racial and ethnic identity, our gender norms, our religious affiliation, and our technology use." These trends, Pew noted, point "toward a future marked by the most striking social, racial, and economic shifts the country has seen in a century." 1924
I asked Andrew Kohut, the founding director of the Pew Center, what he made of these results. He emailed me his thoughts: "There is a libertarian streak that is apparent among these left-of-center young people. Socially liberal but very wary of government. Why? They came of age in an anti-government era when government doesn't work. They are very liberal on interpersonal racial dimension, but reject classic liberal notions about ways of achieving social progress for minorities." According to Pew, the older group believes, 73-20, that "government should do more to solve problems." Only 44 percent of the younger group agrees -- and of younger respondents, 50 percent believe that "government is trying to do too much." Eighty-three percent of the older group of Democratic voters believes that "circumstances" are to blame for poverty; only 9 percent blame "a lack of effort." The younger group of pro-Democratic voters is split, with 47 percent blaming circumstances and 42 percent blaming lack of effort. An overwhelming majority of the older cohort, 83-12, believes that "government should do more to help needy Americans, even if it means more debt," while a majority of the younger Democratic respondents, 56-39, believes "government cannot afford to do much more." A 56 percent majority of the younger group of Democrats believes that "Wall Street helps the American economy more than it hurts," with just 36 percent believing that Wall Street hurts the economy. Older Democrats have almost exactly the opposite view. 56 percent believe that Wall Street hurts the economy; 36 percent believe it helps. Asked by Pew to choose between two statements -- "Racial discrimination is the main reason why many blacks can't get ahead" and "Blacks who can't get ahead are mostly responsible for their own condition" -- the older Democratic cohort blamed discrimination, by an 80 to 10 margin. In contrast, only 19 percent of the younger group of Democrats blamed discrimination, with 68 percent saying that blacks "are mostly responsible for their own condition." Some 91 percent of the older group said the "U.S. needs to continue making changes to give blacks equal rights," and just 6 percent said the "U.S. has made the changes needed to give blacks equal rights." 67 percent of the younger group said the United States has done enough for blacks, and 28 percent said that the country needs to do more to give blacks equal rights. In 2016, the GOP Nominee Gets to Be the Candidate of Change Patrick Ruffini puts it simply: "2016 message: Obama has managed things poorly. Hillary would be more of the same." Allow me to put out a theory . . . I'm not even sure how convinced of this I am. It might be happy talk. 1925
The 2012 results have had just about everybody on the right banging their heads against the wall. Some folks are convinced this is it; America's advancing into a steep decline. Too many voters are tuned-out, easily distracted sheep. Takers, not makers. What if it was a perfect storm of the uncontrollable variables working in Obama's direction? In 2012, Americans who wanted to believe that Obama was getting things turned around had just enough evidence to persuade themselves that better days were around the corner. People who wanted to believe he would be a great leader had some faith he was getting the hang of things. The right track/wrong direction numbers, deeply negative since early 2009, had improved somewhat -- about 40 percent right track, 55 percent wrong direction. Obama's job approval on Election Day 2012 was slightly positive -- 50.1 percent approving, 47.1 percent disapproving. Today only 26 percent think the country is headed in the right direction, 63.5 percent say it's on the wrong track. Today 41.9 percent approve of the job Obama's doing and 53.1 percent disapprove. What if one of the biggest factors in the GOP 2012 defeat was a particularly charismatic opponent, running with all of the advantages of incumbency, and a particularly un- charismatic candidate on our side? What if Obama lucked out with just enough good news on the economic front to get people to think the next four years would be worse? Haven't we been watching that favorable set of circumstances erode before our eyes? In 2012, no one knew the Department of Veterans Affairs was letting veterans die waiting for care. The Middle East's blaze of hatred didn't seem out of control (although Benghazi was a warning shot). Health-insurance premiums hadn't been hiked yet. The number of children coming across the border was manageable. Russia hadn't rolled into Crimea and knocked on the door of Ukraine yet. No IRS scandal yet. No convenient deleted e-mails and thrown-out hard drives. No boasting of a presidential lack of interest in photo-ops in between presidential photo-ops. Speaking at a progressive conference Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden came perilously close to admitting that the Obama presidency had failed: "Look folks, this is within our power to change. Everybody says because we tried in '08 and it didn't happen, it's not possible. Wrong. We've gone through these periods before . . . But folks, this is totally within our power. Change. Change for the better is absolutely possible and I believe it's close to inevitable, if you're the drivers of it." Maybe 2016 won't be such a struggle as we fear.

This is a quick-hit regarding whats happening in Israel/Gaza, along with a *rare+ prediction; it is based on having monitored the predictable a.m.-cable stations [MSNBC/CNN lamenting civilian deaths and FNC noting how Kerry hadperhaps purposefullylamented Israels pinpoint targeting+. In reaction to one overnight-response *Excellent piece! Is there a way to get money to Israel directly?+, it may be wise to consider supporting Magen David Adom urgently. It is also desirable to dispel another Hamas-composed misdirection ["Kidnapped" Israeli Soldier Among 13 Dead Earlier and No Israeli soldier kidnapped], as events in America are placed into an Israeli context [Five IDF task forces begin driving into Gaza City]. Some feel the U.S. [trying both to stop the fighting and to help the Palestinians trapped in Hamass deadly game] should signal to the Islamists and their foreign allies that it is prepared to support an Israeli campaign that will oust them from Gaza and replace them with Fatah; others note that Egypt [where a cease-fire is to be discussed] is antagonistic to Hamas, allied with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Rather than causing despondency, the high IDF casualty toll Sunday the highest in a single engagement since the 2006 Lebanon War has invigorated the fighting forces in the field, making them more determined than ever to get the better of Hamas with all possible speed. Therefore, Israelis will continue to Destroy Hamas Terror Tunnels.
The clincher, here, is internal Israeli politics; as discussed earlier, BB is being pressured [noting that the next elections could occur next year] to uproot Hamas, lest he be saddled with the claim that Israel will need to maintain wariness regarding Gaza while it simultaneously monitors Iran; the fact that the border with Syria is generally quiet [with those who would target Israel clearly being otherwise engaged] yields an opportunity to neutralize one front entirely during this window-of-opportunity. Thus, I feel Israel will resist American pressure [particularly having noted that the success-rate of the Iron Dome is lower than had been touted], mobilizing domestic supporters who will simultaneously be pressuring BHO to impose sanctions on Iran; such support [per a brief discussion with Cliff May this past December] is bipartisan, albeit [until now] compromised when [for example] BHO pressures Sen. Menendez to become mute.
Perhaps someone will remind BHO that American Adversaries Work Together Despite Differences, recognizing that its scary we have two more years of Obama foreign policy; perhaps during his next $-raising foray into NYC, BHO can visit the 9/11 Museum.
Palestinian Arabs feel other Arabs Betrayed Us - Again, but what is heard in the media is mirrored in what is cleverly conveyed via Al Monitor e-mail releases [allegedly reflecting Syrian/Iranian views], which admix fact/opinion in an extremely-cleverly woven presentation to the American audience:
Congress weighs new Iran sanctions Julian Pecquet reports that US Secretary of State John Kerry suggested to Jewish lawmakers that he might be willing to consider more sanctions on Iran if the talks fail. Although the State Department denied the report, other sources confirmed Pecquets account. 1927
Several leading members of Congress, including House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, R-Calif., have called for more sanctions to keep the pressure on Iran. The P5+1 countries and Iran agreed to extend the nuclear talks until Nov. 24, adds Laura Rozen from Vienna. Irans role in Gaza Ali Hashem writes that since 2006, Iran has helped Hamas develop an indigenous rocket capability. According to information acquired by Al-Monitor from sources in Tehran, Gaza and Beirut, a new strategy was adopted after the July/August 2006 war in Lebanon with respect to military support. The main goal was protecting the fighting groups from the danger of a military siege by making them capable of producing as many rockets as they need on the spot, Hashem reports. A senior Hamas official told Palestine Pulses Adnan Abu Amer, Another motive that led [the Izz ad-Din] al-Qassam [Brigades] to start local production of rockets is the closure of tunnels by Egypt. This restricted the entry of raw materials needed for the manufacturing of rockets. However, despite the cut-off of the main source of supply of al-Qassam with rockets of multiple ranges from different origins, this did not prevent it from producing local rockets reaching targets deeper inside Israel. The Iranians essentially smuggled in rockets via the brains of Palestinians, keeping rocket-making knowledge intact despite wars and attacks. Its the same strategy the Iranians adopted in their nuclear program, under the philosophy that knowledge cant be bombed, Hashem adds. On July 14, Irans Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei praised his countrys appropriate stands against the Zionist regime during the Gaza conflict. A confidential June report by the UN Security Council's Panel of Experts on Iran noted that an Iranian ship detained by the Israel Defense Forces on March 4 contained M-302 rockets and fuses, along with other arms. The Palestinian unity government As mentioned in this column last week, the war in Gaza could jeopardize the Palestinian unity government. Palestine Pulses Daoud Kuttab describes the helplessness of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the current conflict and, in a Washington Post op-ed, writes that Abbas legacy of peace building is a potential casualty of the Gaza war. Khaled Meshaal, the leader of Hamas political bureau, told Al-Monitors Adnan Abu Amer that Hamas is committed to the unity agreement. Now is not the time to assess positions. We are facing fierce aggression by the Israeli occupation, and this requires uniting the efforts and the ranks to defend our people and to counter the aggression. Regardless of any differences within the Palestinian arena, the reconciliation will continue to be our choice and our position before, during and 1928
after the war. [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu has sought and is seeking to undermine the reconciliation, but our response will always be to stick to it more and more, Meshaal said in the interview. The Egypt-Hamas fault line An anonymous Al-Monitor correspondent in the Sinai Peninsula reports that Israeli strikes on the smuggling tunnels in Gaza have caused damage to homes on the Egyptian side of the border, but have drawn little condemnation from Egyptian officials. Meanwhile, Egyptian forces have stepped up security cooperation with Israel on the Sinai border at a time when Egypt Pulses Ayah Aman writes that the country has not ruled out importing natural gas from Israel. An Egyptian security source told Al-Monitors anonymous correspondent that increased Egyptian security at the Gaza border is to prevent terrorists from using smuggling tunnels or infiltrating to and from Gaza across the land border or in military boats in the Mediterranean Sea. Everyone knows the extent of the damage that was inflicted on Egypt through the tunnels and entry of terrorists from Gaza to tamper with the stability in the Sinai Peninsula. Egyptian hatred for Hamas, a group that was close to former President Mohammed Morsi, has provided some popular backing for these security measures and lessened sympathy for the plight of Gazans, according to Mohannad Sabry. The reaction of Egypt's current regime led by former defense minister and now- President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to the ongoing war in Gaza with the Egyptian news media and even a great portion of the Egyptian populace trailing along has shown a new policy that is at the least apathetic and is at many times supporting Israel's military action, despite its continuing to take innocent Palestinian lives with impunity, writes Sabry. Walaa Hussein describes in depth how Egypts proposed cease-fire initially bypassed Hama leadership: A high ranking government source revealed to Al-Monitor that Cairo was quick to make its initiative public to head off other parties striving to replace Egypt in embracing the Palestinian cause. However, it exposed the decline of Egypts role in the region." Her source added, The initiative was proposed after informing the Palestinian Authority and Israeli government of its content. However, it was not presented to Hamas for review. Following visits by Abbas and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the envoy of the International Quartet, Egypt made another bid to play a mediating role. Cairo, after refusing to directly negotiate with the leadership of Hamas, announced via its foreign minister in a press conference with Blair that it had initiated dialogue with Hamas to convince them of the need to accept the cease-fire proposal, Hussein reports. 1929
In his interview with Abu Amer, Meshaal did not rule out a role for Egypt if Cairo would acknowledge Palestinian demands. Egypts negative position toward Hamas is unwarranted. We didnt interfere in Egyptian affairs, because they are internal affairs. And we respect the privacy [of those affairs+ as *we respect the privacy+ of other countries affairs. The responsibility of all Arabs, and the big sister Egypt first and foremost, is to stand by the Palestinian people, work to stop the savage Israeli aggression, end the siege on Gaza in a real way and help the people get rid of the occupation and the settlements," he said. Islamic State headquarters in Mosul Amberin Zaman reveals that the Turkish Consulate building in Mosul, Iraq, where 49 Turkish citizens, including the consul general, are still captive, is now the headquarters of the Islamic State group (IS). Mosuls governor Atheel al-Nujaifi told Zaman that he did not expect the hostages to be released anytime soon. It is more likely that IS will hold on to them for a while because IS wants to keep Turkey out of Iraq, Nujaifi explained. Senior Western officials who are closely monitoring the situation agree that IS has no incentive to release the Turks, as this is their best way of ensuring that Turkey does not carry out any kind of military action against the jihadists. Turkey apparently believed that it had some kind of entente cordiale with them, said one. Whether it did or not, after Mosul it has been forced into one, the official concluded. Mahmoud Salem writes that even countries as far away as Egypt have much to fear from IS. Beyond IS' alternative model to the failed modern Arab state, its raison detre alone should have Sisi shuddering. When employed by an Arab state, nationalism can win against local Islamist ideologies, but when it is positioned against the idea of being part of an existing Islamic empire where borders do not exist and all Muslims are united the rules suddenly change. All this may be grist for psychologists, but the key-points therein are [amazingly] corroborative of the view that BB will feel compelled to continue his war *not operation any longer, per DebkaFile+ and to maintain control of [at least a mile-long buffer of] some previously-Gazan territory. It is unclear if transferring control to the PA would relocate power from the fire to the skillet *metaphorically+, so it is possible that it would be held in abeyance until UNRWA-reforms [educational, etc.] were implemented. What is clear is that BB is on auto-pilot, focused on attaining an unambiguous achievement [before Kerry is able to snatch a type of cease-fire defeat (as portrayed by Hamas) from the jaws of victory].

During self-proclaimed semi-retirement from providing comprehensive hyperlink-overload, the necessity persists to cite meaningful data that either have been overlooked or are seen as a subset of a narrative worth repeating [albeit in a broader context]; in addition, it is necessary to sound the alarum regarding [for example] the need to declare War ASAP against the Islamic State because [inter alia] it is Cutting off Water Supply to Christians and Kurds in Regions They Do Not Control. Otherwise, certain events support prior narratives [Militia behind Benghazi lived next to consulate] and/or carry profound implications [The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Two-faced Alan M. Dershowitz just wrote [July 22, 2014 at 3:00 pm] an essay [Has Hamas ended the prospects for a two state solution?] that simultaneously reflects his Dem-leanings and exquisite-navet. Thus, I simply couldnt resist submitting this reaction thereto:
Dershowitz FINALLY notes "The new reality caused by Hamas' shutting down of international air travel to and from Israel would plainly justify an Israeli demand that it maintain military control over the West Bank in any two-state deal."
This is hardly a "new" anything, but it's wonderful to recognize that he has seen-the- light; I rebuked him a few months ago when he spoke @ the U of Pennsylvania [in defense of his BFF-Obama], provoking him to attack [in a broad-brush fashion] Republicans who can't stomach a guy who would endorse BHO's desire to extend the Judenrein status of Gaza throughout Judea/Samaria.
Indeed, although he was there to join in the attack on JStreet, he exclaimed he was closer to JStreet than to the GOP with regard to BHO's Middle East policy, due in no small measure to his feelings regarding the Social Issues; although this created a stir, the organizers of this event lamented the fact that he had been provoked [by myself] to have strayed from the subject-at-hand.
THEREFORE, Dershowitz is cordially invited to compose a follow-up piece that depicts BHO's reaction to his posture, inclusive of whether he has been able to convince him of the strident conclusions he [justifiably] drew in this op-ed. Simply put, he can't have it both ways; either he maintains the proper level of reality-testing [recognizing the dangers of Islamism] or he continues to compromise his credibility [by hiding behind the claim that "some Zionists have to be Dems, lest polarization occur" ... despite the fact that he cannot reasonably claim lineage from Scoop Jackson].

Consider a dozen items of assorted information, some provided in response to the prior Blast e-mail:
1. Regarding the Illegals, DEMS LASH OUT AT WHITE HOUSE OVER BORDER CRISIS - As Congress struggles to agree on emergency funding in response to the crisis, Dems are taking the White House to task any chance they get. They are giving floor speeches, arguing the administration doesn't understand the root cause of the crisis. They are sparring with administration officials in closed-door discussions. And they say Obama should have better consulted lawmakers before backing a policy change deeply opposed by their party. 'They sure didn't check with me,' said Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. 'I don't know who they checked with, but I just think it was kind of a quick reaction without really thinking about the humanitarian aspects of this.' Also, a friend wrote this letter to Corbett:
You need to capture and return the illegal immigrants sent into PA by the Federal Government.
Some of them are located at: 1) Liberty Lutheran in Roslyn, PA 2) Kids Peace in Bethlehem 3) Bethany Children's Home in Womelsdorf (Reading) House 32 ages 1 to 18
Two more sites will soon be accepting illegal immigrants sent by the Federal Government.
4) United Methodist Home for Children in Mechanicsburg 5) Holy Family Institute in Pittsburgh - could house 20 under 12
This information was current as of Noon on 7/22/14, according to Numbers-USA
Kindly capture and return the illegal immigrants or, at least, capture them and send them to the White House. If the President wants them he can personally take them.
2. Regarding the lib-media, after True Blood made an episode bashing Ted Cruz, Ted and his spokesperson [Amanda Carpenter] responded effectively.
3. Regarding Philly, the Kimmel Center changed its physical campus to reflect a revamping of its original mission; instead of a broad goal of importing the best in a wide spectrum of musical styles from around the world, the Kimmel has walked away from certain genres and carved out smaller performance areas to present others.
4. Regarding Rush Limbaugh, note these Quote-Gems [c/o Charlie Shipp] from yesterday/today:
1938
"Remember, in terms of research data and self-admission, we conservatives are the majority in this country. And that matters." "I just instinctively knew that a lifetime of Twinkies was not the answer. Nobody had to tell me this." "Of all government agencies, why would the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention be figuring out the sexual orientation of the American population? Well, just asking. I mean, why wouldn't the Census be reporting these numbers on how many Americans are gay, lesbian or bisexual?" "You mention the word 'assimilation' today in relationship to newly arriving immigrants and you may as well be cursing people out." "How many of you were aware that mass immigration was suspended for many decades? From 1924 to 1964, '65. It's key not just that it was suspended, but what was the reason for it? The decision was made to suspend immigration so that all of those immigrants who had arrived en masse starting in 1845 could assimilate." "Barack Obama is the president of the United States. He has policies; we disagree with them. We think they are disastrous, they're detrimental, they're doing great damage to the country. That's what 'taking our country back' means, and I don't even use the phrase, but I know what people mean who do, and they don't have anything racist in their minds about this." "A fascinating thing to me is that the functioning, living and breathing majority has successfully been relegated to a status that most people think is dying out, barely holding on, made up of some of the weirdest, kookiest, stupidest freaks." "I've always thought that most homosexuals would naturally gravitate toward conservatism because conservatism is rooted in freedom. But I know that that's not the case." "You can take a genuine minority and convince people that it is much larger than it is, and it is in the pop culture that you find the primary agents of influence, I think." "The homeless population is very upset at Mayor Garcetti in Los Angeles because he is providing housing for the illegal alien children that are arriving in great numbers over the border, and the homeless say, 'What about us?'" "The real purpose of food stamps is not compassion, it's not better health. This is just the libs trying to make people think they care about them. This is all about vote buying. Nothing more, nothing less." "The government issues marriage licenses so people do not get married who shouldn't and produce offspring like Harry Reid. It didn't work in the Reid family case, but that's how it's designed." "There is always tomorrow, and we'll be back then 21 hours from now. So I will be right where God intended. God created radio in the first place because he knew that I was going to be born someday." 1939
"When has Barack Obama had 60% disapproval on anything? He's got it in his handling of the crisis at what used to be the southern border." "Whenever you hear some leftist on TV suggest that any of this criticism of Obama is due to racism, just substitute the word 'racism' with 'liberalism,' and you will understand every time what's up here." "I'm just a guy on the radio. I don't own the country. I don't determine what happens in the country." "What used to be stuff we would laugh at and put over there in the sandbox of fringe is no longer the sandbox of fringe. It is, if you listen to it, an indicator telling us where we're headed." "Practically everything Obama's doing is based on redistribution. Redistribution is what? Taking from those who have. And why? Because of the belief they didn't get it fairly." "Republicans are upset with their own elected officials because they are seen to be on the same page with Obama. There is no opposition." "I told everybody one year before Obama was inaugurated that the fact he was black was going to eliminate any criticism. One of the purposes would be to freeze any criticism, because all of it would be labeled as racist in origin. It's exactly what they've done for the last five and a half years, any criticism at all, especially legitimate, right-on criticism." "These people make me sound like the most brilliant guy on radio. Well, I am." "There is a deep resentment held by many on the left for those in this country who are affluent, those who 'made it' or what have you. It's cut-everybody-down-to-size time. It's time to show the United States what life is really like for everybody else." "If somebody is really, really just so self-absorbed that they can't function because the name of a football team, then something is not right. I'm not defending the name. It's not the point." "When I suspect that the changing times are not evolutionary but because of the left trying to advance their political agenda, that's when I do my William F. Buckley Jr. impersonation and stand up and say, 'Stop!'" "I got a lot of e-mail on this from angry, panicked people. Let me put you at ease. Contrary to rumors that Jay Carney will be the new chief of public relations for Apple, Inc., it isn't true. It isn't going to happen, and that's that." 5. Regarding Israel, BROOKE GOLDSTEIN detailed SIX REASONS WHY AMERICANS SHOULD CARE ABOUT THE WAR BETWEEN HAMAS AND ISRAEL [omitting the most obvious, namely, that Israel must protect its citizenry, even if it must demilitarize the Gaza Strip in the process] and MADELINE ALBRIGHT SAID ISRAEL IS OVERDOING MILITARY OPERATION AND HURTING THEIR 'MORAL AUTHORITY'; meanwhile, I promoted two phone-calls instead of tomorrows Federation-sponsored rally because, for myriad reasons, expending time on the former promises to provide better return in terms of potential 1940
action-items; in addition, as the IDS mops-up, one wonders why they didnt try to find the tunnel- openings in Israel, previously.
6. Regarding myriad issues [Putin, Israel, BHO and the GOP], Jim Geraghty [who appeared on a FNC-panel] wrote the following:
The Russia Situation Just Went from Bad to Worse
I like how our government is laying out the MH 17 evidence . . . the question is, what are we going to do about it? Citing an "enormous amount of evidence," Secretary of State John F. Kerry accused Russia of providing SA-11 antiaircraft missiles to the pro- Russian rebels and training them on how to fire the advanced weapons. He also said U.S. intelligence agencies "saw the launch" of a missile from rebel-held territory in eastern Ukraine and recorded its trajectory at the moment the passenger plane vanished from radar. Late last week, I asked on Twitter if anyone had seen a good reason to be skeptical of those audio intercepts released by the Ukrainian government. I heard a lot of "I'd never trust the Ukrainian government!" responses, but nothing specific -- i.e., odd word choice or accents, sounds or signs of audio editing, etc. Looks like our intelligence community thinks they're the real deal: Meanwhile, in Kiev, the U.S. Embassy said American intelligence analysts had confirmed the authenticity of recorded conversations in which rebel leaders bragged about shooting down what they thought was a Ukrainian military transport plane moments after the Malaysian jetliner was blown apart. The Ukrainian government had previously aired the audio excerpts, but the U.S. statement vouching for their reliability buttressed the charges against the rebels. Mm-hmm. The rebels had come under withering criticism from officials in Kiev, Washington, Kuala Lumpur, The Hague and European capitals who claimed they had failed to show respect for the dead -- most of whom were Dutch citizens, flying from Amsterdam to Malaysia -- and failed to preserve the integrity of the crime scene. The separatists have denied shooting down the plane, suggesting that the Ukrainian government was instead probably responsible. 1941
I would note that Russian-backed separatists whose day job is killing people are probably not all that worried about international condemnation. Still, it looks like some corners of Europe are ready to take a much tougher stance with Russia: Almost five days after a missile attack downed the Malaysia Airlines jet, the Dutch prime minister said "all political, economic and financial options" were on the table if access did not improve to the area in eastern Ukraine. Mark Rutte told parliament his government's priority was to recover and identify the bodies of the passengers, 193 of whom were Dutch. "It is clear that Russia must use her influence on the separatists to improve the situation on the ground," Rutte added. Forget Talk of Ceasefire; Israel's Aiming to Demilitarize the Gaza Strip Think the fighting between the IDF and Hamas in the Gaza Strip is nearing its end? Probably not: Security Cabinet members said Thursday that the IDF may need to re- conquer all or part of Gaza to ensure Hamas does not continue to attack Israel. Communications Minister Gilad Erdan said during a visit to Ashkelon Monday that the IDF must continue fighting until it ensures long-term calm. Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Monday that the IDF will call up reservists and continue fighting until quiet is returned. Overnight Sunday, more forces entered Gaza to find terrorist tunnels in new areas of the Strip, Ya'alon told MKs, saying it is unfortunate that Hamas terrorists harmed IDF soldiers. "We are prepared to continue the operation as long as necessary, and, if necessary, to enlist more combat forces from the reserves until we bring quiet to the Gaza Strip," Ya'alon stated. Fighting intensified last night: Israel repelled two underground infiltrations by Hamas militants into its territory from the Gaza Strip on Monday following a night of Israeli attacks that left a heavy toll of casualties in the Palestinian territory. The Palestinian Health Ministry said the Palestinian death toll in the two-week-old Israeli offensive, aimed at destroying Hamas's cross- border tunnel network, rose by more than 80 during the night and now exceeds 500. Many were killed in heavy Israeli shelling and airstrikes in southern Gaza, the ministry said. 1942
Naturally, our Secretary of State John Kerry is headed to Cairo this morning, aiming to persuade both sides to agree to a ceasefire -- even though Hamas already rejected one and Israel certainly doesn't sound like they're willing to accept a ceasefire if it lets Hamas regroup and re-arm. Great. Now We've Got Presidential Attention Deficit Disorder. Here's one big question: Will we still be talking about Ukraine and Israel/Hamas at the end of the week? Or will some other part of the world -- or perhaps our own border -- blow up then, pushing Ukraine and everything else back to the inside pages? Remember those kidnapped schoolgirls? Remember how releasing the Taliban Five was an ominous indicator for Afghanistan? Remember ISIS taking over Iraq? Remember the Syrian civil war? Aren't there still oodles of Central American kids coming over our border? Does our media lose interest in these crises because the president isn't interested in them? Or does the president feel like he's doing fine because the media stops covering them? Take a look at the president's schedule for the coming week, as laid out in Mike Allen's other morning newsletter . . . On Monday morning, the President will sign an Executive Order to protect LGBT employees from workplace discrimination. In the afternoon the President will award Ryan M. Pitts, a former active duty Army Staff Sergeant, the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry. On Tuesday, the President will deliver remarks and sign H.R. 803, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, at an event at the White House; the Vice President will also attend. "Afterward, the President will travel to Seattle, WA to attend a DNC event. Later in the day, the President will travel to San Francisco, CA, where he will remain overnight. On Wednesday, the President will attend a DCCC event in the San Francisco area, and later in the day will travel to the Los Angeles area, where he will remain overnight. On Thursday, the President will visit a community college in Los Angeles to deliver remarks on the importance of job-driven skills training, particularly for fast-growing sectors such as health care. Later, he will attend a DNC event . . . That's three days of fundraisers! Two feel-good ceremonies on touchy-feely domestic issues! It's like Obama has decided he's governing in the late 1990s. If you mention an Obama fundraiser, inevitably some snotty lefty will respond, "Sure, because Obama's the first president to ever attend a campaign fundraiser." No, but he's the first one to ever do so many: In his first term, Obama attended more fundraising events than any other president in recent history. According to author Brendan J. 1943
Doherty, from 2008 to 2012 Obama went to 321 events, compared to just 80 for Ronald Reagan. And . . . he's done 72 events in his second term -- 34 this year alone. So far, he's ahead of the pace of George W. Bush, who had been to 30 events at this point in 2006. In his two presidential terms combined, Bush hosted 318 fundraisers. Obama has already smashed that number with 393 events to date. I wonder if the big theme in the second half of 2014 is going to be increasingly open questions about Obama's connection to reality, or whether he's locking himself in an ever-thicker psychological and scheduling cocoon, behaving as if he's enjoying a fabulously successful presidency and that the world is getting better, more tranquil, and more prosperous on his watch.
Newt Gingrich: From his perch in the amazingly Obama-centric world in which our President lives, look again at what the rest of us think of as serious problems. Have any of the 1,000-plus Hamas rockets been aimed at Obama? No. That is why Obama is tranquil. Have any of the thousands who are crossing the border tried to move into the White House? No. That is why Obama is tranquil. Is ISIS an immediate threat to the United States that is likely to blow up the next golf course the President is playing at? No. That is why Obama is tranquil. If you can reduce your presidency to a Starbucks visit, a man with a horse-head mask, shooting pool and visiting Joe Biden's burger joint for lunch, you can have a successful presidency as you have defined it, even if the world is disintegrating. The Comstock Campaign, a Useful Test Case of GOP Minority Outreach An interesting test case for a GOP candidate's outreach to minorities comes in a Congressional race just outside the Beltway with GOP state delegate Barbara Comstock, a longtime friend of NRO. The Washington Post describes her campaign's efforts: The "Comstock Connection," her newsletter, is rife with blurbs describing her attendance at events such as the Punjabi Mela Festival, a 1944
celebration of Indian and Pakistani culture; and the 50th anniversary celebration of the Organization of Korean American Women. The newsletter also highlighted the first celebration of the Korean Bell Garden in Vienna, a new attraction she said she was "thrilled" to have in her district when she spoke to the gathering of Korean Americans in Tysons earlier this month. Sponsored by the RNC, the event -- held at Woo Lae Oak, a restaurant that is a pillar of Northern Virginia's Korean community -- is the kind of grass-roots affair the party is seeking to host around the country. "Good to see you," Comstock said repeatedly as she visited tables while an aide shot photos of her with Korean guests that were later posted on Twitter and Facebook. At one point, the candidate conferred with Harold Pyon, a Korean civic leader who could be heard teaching Comstock to say "How are you?" in Korean. Whether Comstock's efforts add up to votes is unknown. Can't hurt, right? Would you rather the party ran candidates who said, "I'm going to win votes in that community!" or one who said, "Eh, what's the use, they're all Democrats over there anyway"? 7. Regarding Dinesh DSouzas America *book/flick+, previously-discussed points regarding the reasons for American Exceptionalism have been amplified in Chapter 9 and in Chapter 10; the former contrasted the remedies for racism *for blacks+ by W.E.B. Du Bois *agitate, agitate, agitate+ and by Booker T. Washington *work, work, work+, and the latter summarized entrepreneurship *rather innovatively] in its final-graph, rather uniquely: Capitalism civilizes greed in the same way that marriage civilizes lust. Greed, like lust, is part of the human condition. These emotions cannot be eradicated, although some monkish sects have certainly tried. And to the degree that greed leads to effort and lust to pleasure, why should we seek to eradicate them? At the same time, it is widely recognized that these inclinations can have destructive effects. So they have to be channeled in such a way that they serve us, and society, best. The institution of marriage allows the fulfillment of lust, but within a context that promotes mutual love and the raising of children. Lust is refined and ennobled by marriage. Similarly capitalism channels greed in such a way that it is placed at the service of the wants and needs of others. Under capitalism, helping others is the best way of helping yourself. Capitalism provides a virtue to prosperity. {Recall, however, that he decries homosexuality because he feels that the best environment for childrearing is within a heterosexual marriage; pending is my e-mail to him, probing why he reached this conclusion.} 8. Regarding the issue of Alessio Lerro, somewhat delayed was publication of this letter from a well-known entertainer who exudes her Jewishness throughout, published in the jewish exponent : Temple Must Condemn Anti-Semitic Postings 1945
Recent anti-Semitic postings were made by Temple University adjunct professor Alessio Lerro (Headlines, Temple Professor Makes Anti-Israel, Shoah-Denying Comments Online, June 5), who also challenged the number of Jews killed in the Holocaust. It is not enough for Temple University to issue a third statement of stronger condemnation. If this educator is not repudiated and forced to resign, it is a sign that this kind of rhetoric is acceptable and tolerated by the university. The Holocaust is not up for debate; it is an historical fact. President Neil Theobald and the board need to be told that referring to Lerros views as a strong counterpoint to the universitys views is outrageous. As long as Temple University signs this Holocaust deniers paycheck, they are condoning his views. As a proud Temple University alumna, I hope the Board of Trustees is feeling the impact of the numbers responding to this dangerous rhetoric. Perhaps this will finally be a Jewish number Mr. Lerro will respect. He certainly does not respect the millions of numbers tattooed on the arms of the Jews of Eastern Europe. He is a disgrace to the university, an anti-Semite and must go. I, on the other hand, want to remain a proud alumna. Sally Mitlas | Jenkintown 9. Regarding the MEDIA, it seems the Clintons lobbied GE to get rid of MSNBC's David Shuster due to his off-hand comment about Chelsea ['sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way' for lobbying super delegates on her mother's behalf during the presidential primaries]; the irony is that Shuster was an extreme-lib, manifest for example when he interviewed Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) [September 24, 2007] for which he apologized for his [incorrect] aggressiveness. 10. Regarding Corbett vs. Wolf, Wolf would defuse the Pension-Bomb via borrowing [via a bond] (providing a taste of what would be in-store were he to win); also, PATERNOS SON AND ANOTHER EX- FOOTBALL ASSISTANT COACH ARE SUING PSU. 11. Regarding BHO, PALIN OBSERVED THAT 'EVIL MEN' THRIVE IN AGE OF OBAMA, and CBS News' Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett [formerly of FNC] lodged a formal complaint against the Obama Administration for blocking members of the press from a meeting between the president and the surviving Apollo 11 astronauts [for lack of transparency]. 12. Regarding POTUS-16, RAND'S JEWISH CHARM OFFENSIVE is part of the groundwork for a presidential bid; actions include: [1]hiring two top Iowa Republicans and one veteran New Hampshire strategist; [2]donning a yarmulke and dancing to Hebrew songs; [3]praying at the Western Wall and visiting a prominent New Jersey yeshiva (a religious school where a major GOP contributor served as his tour guide). He's dialed into one of the country's most popular Jewish radio programs and held off-the- record conference calls with Jewish leaders across more than 30 states. He has introduced pro-Israel legislation (title: the 'Stand With Israel Act'), speechified about it in the Senate, and, relentlessly, sought a private audience with the wealthiest and most influential Jewish Republicans in the nation." 1946
