Dune - Daan Roosegaarde

Dune is an interactive art installation created by Daan Roosegaarde between 2006-2009. It uses hundreds of LEDs and sensors to light up fibers in response to sound and motion, allowing visitors to interact with and explore nature through technology. The installation was exhibited at venues like the Tate Modern in London and investigated the relationship between nature and urban spaces.

Description:

Dune is an interactive landscape which

reacts on the behavior of people. This hybrid
of nature and technology exists out of large
amounts of fibers which are brightened
according to the sounds and motion of
passing visitors.

Dune investigates nature in a futuristic

relation with urban space by means of
looking, walking and interacting. Walking
through Dune has been described in the
media as being an ʻAlice in Technolandʼ.

Publications: 4D Social (Wiley), Space Craft (Gestaltung), NRC Next (Amsterdam).
