Verse 2 Verse 2
Not a shadow can rise, Not a cloud in the skies, Through days of toil when heart does fail,
But His smile quickly drives it away; God will take care of you; When dangers fierce
Not a doubt nor a fear, Not a sigh nor a tear, Your path assail, God will take care of you.
Can abide while we trust and obey. (Repeat chorus)
(Repeat chorus)
Verse 3
Verse 3 All you may need He will provide,
Not a burden we bear, Not a sorrow we share, God will take care of you; Nothing you ask
But our toil He doth richly repay; Will be denied, God will take care of you.
Not a grief nor a loss, Not a frown nor a cross, (Repeat chorus)
But is blest if we trust and obey.
(Repeat chorus) Verse 4
Verse 4 No matter what may be the test,
But we never can prove the delights of His love God will take care of you; Lean weary one,
Until all on the altar we lay, Upon His breast, God will take care of you.
(Repeat chorus)
For the favor He shows and the joy He bestows,
Are for those who will trust and obey.
(Repeat chorus)
Verse 5
Then in fellowship sweet, we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, Where he sends we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.
(Repeat chorus)

7:30 a.m. Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces,

deliver us out of thine hand, O king. 18 But if
not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will
not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden
image which thou hast set up.
26
Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the
mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake,
and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye
servants of the most high God, come forth, and
come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.
27
And the princes, governors, and captains,
and the king’s counsellors, being gathered
together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the
fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head
singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the
smell of fire had passed on them. 28 Then Nebu-
chadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God
of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath
sent his angel, and delivered his servants that
trusted in him, and have changed the king’s
word, and yielded their bodies, that they might
not serve nor worship any god, except their own
God. 29 Therefore I make a decree, That every

ost of our members do not know that my Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago’s Divin-
ity School was in the area of Islam in West Africa during the 19th Century — when the trans-Atlan-
tic Slave Trade was at its zenith. Islam has as many manifestations as Christianity and Judaism, but
most Americans are only fed a media diet on Islam as it relates to the “war on terror” and the Palestinian muslim
problem in the “state” of Israel.
Islam is much more, however, than the corporate-owned media would have you think. Below is a very helpful
article on one branch if Islam in 2007.
I
t is a commonplace today to begin a discourse on Islam with the theme of “crisis.” It is not my
intention here to add to that unrelenting discursive assault. Instead, I would like to describe the
salient features of Muslims who self-identify as progressive, and comment upon the challenges
they face in struggling to realize the full potential of the progressive movement.
Who are progressive Muslims? Progressive Islam both continues and radically departs from the
150-year-old tradition of liberal Islam, embodied by ‘Abduh, Afghani, Shari’ati, and others. Un-
like most earlier modernists, progressive Muslims are consistently critical of colonialism, both in
its nineteenth-century and in its current manifestations. Progressive Muslims develop a critical and
nonapologetic “multiple critique” vis-à-vis both Islam and modernity.
And again distinct from their liberal forefathers, another feature of the progressive Muslim move-
ment has been the equal level of female participation and leadership, as well as the move to highlight
women’s rights as part of a broader engagement with human rights.
Progressives measure their success not in developing new and beatific theologies but rather by
the on-the-ground transformation that they can produce in Muslim and non-Muslim societies. This
movement is characterized by emphasis on a number of themes: striving to realize a just and plural-
istic society through critically engaging Islam, a relentless pursuit of social justice, an emphasis on
gender equality as a foundation of human rights, a vision of religious and ethnic pluralism, and a
methodology of nonviolent resistance.

Jesus, you tell us to “sell what we have and give alms.” Not even
your pastors talk of giving more than ten percent! We suppose you
mean share. Your approach is often radical and we have to adapt it to
the high cost of living. After all, you wore no shoes in Palestine, and
there is no record you paid for higher education.
We do listen to you, Lord. For instance, we are great for selling
what we have (what we have extra, that is). We call it a “garage sale.”
It just never occurred to us to try out the rest of it, and “give alms,”
as you say.
Your words might even inspire us to match our dinners out, with a
donation for world hunger. When we buy new clothes to stuff in the
closet, and wear twice a year, we might even give alms to clothe the
naked or use one of our automobiles to drive the elderly.
It won’t be a drastic change in our lifestyle, Lord, because we aren’t
radicals like you. On the other hand, we want at least a little treasure
in the bank you brag about, where thieves do not come near or moths
destroy.
Lord, disturb our comfortable ways a little. Help us to comfort the
world.
