GENRE: Fable, allegory

The Little Prince narrates the tale of a pilot who is stranded in what is presumably the Sahara
desert. Fantasy enters the novella as the narrator encounters the little prince, a boy from another
planet who recounts his adventures in the universe and at the end of the book, must return to
where he came from.

BODY:

What is the book about?
Published in 1943, The Little Prince is a fantasy about a pilot, stranded in the Sahara,
who meets a small boy from another planet. The boy, who refers to himself as a prince, is on a
quest for knowledge. The little prince asks questions of the pilot and tells the pilot of life on his
own very small planet. This story is told in a simple fashion, as children's stories typically are,
but it is not really a children's story. It is a story of a grown-up who has almost forgotten what is
important. It is the story of the pilot's reconnection to his own sense of imagination and wonder.
It is the story of the re-opening of the pilot's heart.

Authors purpose?
After the armistice of 1940, Saint-Exupry left France for the United States. While he
was in hospital undergoing treatment for the consequences of his many accidents, he was also in
the process of writing Flight to Arras. This led him to write a tale of his own for the purpose of
himself because he is suffering from his exile in a country that had no love for him, wounded by
the controversy stirred up by his latest book, Flight to Arras, attacked from all sides by those
seeking to win him over to their cause and bitterly angry with him for not sharing their ideas.
This was shown in his narration in which he wants to understand the meaning of Love that he
cant understand from his relation to rose. Trying to learn and meet new things along the way,
although in order to do that, he must leave his beloved rose.

Brief descriptions of the setting:
The story of The Little Prince is primarily set in the Sahara Desert, but the story also
consists of many flashbacks as the prince relays his own story to the pilot. Therefore, the setting
would also include any of the other locations the prince describes in his own narratives.

Point of view:
The narrator gives a first-person account, although he spends large portions of the story
recounting the little princes own story of his travels

General overview of the authors topic:
The Little Prince by Antoine de St. Exupery is a wonderful novel. The Little Prince was
originally written in French in 1943 as Le Petit Prince. It was then translated to English by
Katherine Woods. The Little Prince is the story of a young boy from another planet who ventures
from his home to discover new worlds. In the process, he makes friends and teaches valuable
lessons. St. Exupery places himself as the narrator and author of this story. St. Exupery tells of
how he went down in his airplane in the middle of the desert and meets a little prince from
another planet. The little prince tells the author/pilot about all of the people and animals he has
met since he set out on his voyage. In the process, the readers eyes are opened to many of the
mysteries of life

ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION
Did the author achieve his purpose?
The author achieve his purpose because the novel has begun as a childrens book but
incorporated and elaborated the authors philosophy from previous books. The ideas in The Little
Prince summed up for the author everything he wished to pass on in the crisis the world faced. It
was his favorite book, and it was noted that he treated it as an autobiography, handing out copies
to friends. Thus,

Is the writing effective, powerful, difficult, and beautiful?
The writing is effective and powerful because the novel is written in a simple language.
The words have a way of pulling the reader into the story along with the other characters. I
become quite charmed by The Little Prince every time I read it. St. Exupery writes in a very
simplistic style which allows children as well as adults to fall in love with The Little Prince. In
fact, The Little Prince is deceptively simple. The sentences may be written very simply, but some
very deep meanings shine through.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the book?
Strengths
1. Little prince has a very pure heart and innocent soul. He never had a bad thoughts trough
other people and will help any other who needs help
2. He is a brave man that sees the good in people and he is brave to explore many countries just
to find the meaning of Love
3. He is an observant, decent, curious man that wants to learn about everything and enjoys his
life faithfully
Weaknesses
1. Hes too naive that being very emotional like any other kids when he didnt get what they
want. He became very melancholy.
2. He cant really divide the other people emotional, so sometimes he distract people just like
any other kids and he take people talks to serious.

Would you recommend it to others? Why or why not?
I highly recommended this book because The Little Prince is an awe-inspiring novel
which is poetically written. The Little Prince has the power to make a great impact on those who
read it. This novel will make you smile, laugh, and cry. Everyone may take its lessons differently
depending on ones life experiences. The Little Prince can be related to many issues we deal with
daily such as friendship, love, and death. I believe there is a message in The Little Prince for
anyone who is willing to embrace this novel.

Conclusion
In this story, I think that the writer try to tell us that however we being grown up,
sometimes we have to rethink as a little kids again. Think when we don't really mind about
money, about position, about discrimination and pride. Think when we being able to tolerate
anything with our heart and not our mind. And when we being able to do this, our live could
became more peaceful. This thing also happened to our Love story. We should use our heart
not our head. Sometimes, being childish wasnt that bad, because we will never think negative
about anybody or even about our self. We don't matter those thing and just live our live as our
self.
