Lesson Plan

Date: Thursday December 11, 2008


Period: 1-8
Class: 5-1, 5-2, 5-3, 5-4, 5-5, 5-6, 5-7, 5-8
Teachers: Matthew (Native Teacher – NT)
(Korean Teacher – KT)
Unit: Can you join us? (Unit 15-2)

Objectives: Students will learn and use phrases related with invitations, specifically
going over the phrase “can you join us?” and the acceptance and
declination of the invitation.
Materials: Computer, CD-Rom, picture cards

Introduction and Review (5 minutes)


Do a short introduction and review to prepare the class with the previous day materials
and teachers. This introduction will go as follows:
 NT & KT: “Good morning students”
Students (Ss) “Good morning Matthew Teacher…”
 KT: “How are you today?”
 Ss “I’m fine, thank you”
 NT: “How’s the weather today?”
 Ss “It’s ________________”
 NT: “Ok, very good!”

Let’s Sing (5 minutes)
The teacher introduces the sing to the children and they listen carefully to the song and
rhythm for the first time.
After the first time, the students can start singing together as a class and do the song
together as a class.
Then, you can split the class up (boys & girls, row-by-row) and sing different section of
the song.
After that, you can replace some of the foods in the song to a different places (went to
the park, grandparent’s house)

Different meaning in ‘Can’(5 minutes)


With some help from the KT, the NT will explain the difference in can.
 NT Can has two different meanings. One meaning is the ability to do
something. “I can swim.” Can also has the meaning of asking permission “Can
I play computer games”
The NT will go over some examples with the students to see if they understand the
definition.

Let’s Read (5 minutes)


Start everyone on page 124 and start Let’s Read. Load the CD-Rom and go over the
words with the children. Have them try and read the word at first, then the teacher can
over the word with the students. If there is enough time, have individual students say
and pronounce the words. Then the teacher will do a listening exercise. The students
have the write the appropriate letter beside the word the teachers say.
Then move to the second part. The students have to select the word that doesn’t belong
in the group. Then they take the first letter of the word selected to make a special word.
After the students have given the answers, go over the answers using the CD-Rom.

Let’s Write (5 minutes)


Have the students read the word, after they read the word. Have them fill in the word by
writing in their books. If there is enough time, the teacher can ask the student to come to
board and write in the correct answer.

[Optional – If there is enough time – Powerpoint (10 minutes)


The powerpoint will review the sentences that we have studied in the chapter and have
the students go over some of the important phrases and new words

Wrap-Up
Time to finish the class
 NT “Ok, children we are finished English Class today.”
 KT “Did you have fun today?”
 Ss “Yes!!!!”
 KT “Ok, goodbye students, say goodbye to Matthew Teacher”
 Ss “Goodbye, goodbye Matthew Teacher
 NT “Goodbye, see you next time.”
