Role of student in making India prosper

Students play an important role in the development of India. As we know that today's
children are tomorrow's future. So if children would be good students they would give India a
bright future. Good students lead to not only a good India but also a good world. To quote
Mark Twain, Ours is the country India, the land of dreams and romance, of fabulous wealth
and fabulous poverty, of splendour and rags, of palaces and hovels, of famine and pestilence,
of genii and, of tigers and elephants, the cobra and the jungle, the country of hundred nations
and a hundred tongues, of a thousand religions and two million gods, cradle of the human
race, the one sole country under the sun that is endowed with an imperishable interest for
alien prince and alien peasant, for lettered and ignorant, wise and fool, rich and poor, bond
and free, the one land that all men desire to see, and having seen once, by even a glimpse,
would not give that glimpse for the shows of all the rest of the world combined. We should
feel proud to be an Indian and therefore, the prosperity of our country depends on us. The
students should ensure that they are at their utmost consciousness to see our country as the
most prosperous in coming years.
The way Indian economy is making progress for the last few years, is fairly rapid and
impressive. Continuation of the same trend in the coming years should result in substantial
advancement in prosperity as compared to developed countries. India's achievement in the
field of information technology, particularly in software development has been very
impressive. I believe that to become a major economic power in the world, it is necessary to
develop the best capabilities in much wider sphere of technology, to make our students
empowered with it to achieve high level of efficiency and effectiveness.
Of the various practices adopted in name of social justice, the one that hurts the country most,
is denying opportunities for to those who can serve national interest best, by assigning
responsibilities for such work and result to the incapable and incompetent. I believe all
scheme enforced by government for preferential treatment for employment based on caste or
region should be replaced by schemes to develop the capabilities of such under privileged
students so that they can contribute to the national wealth. There is a also need to cut down
on corruption and inefficiency. I believe by developing and implementing effective systems
that monitor and control performance of students and guiding them at desired path would
certainly make the country to improve and prosper automatically.
The aim of students is no more to control the mind, but to develop it harmoniously;
not to achieve salvation here after, but to make the best use of it; and not to realise truth,
beauty and good only in contemplation, but also in the actual experience of daily life; social
progress depends not upon the ennoblement of the few but on the enrichment of democracy. I
believe, students are to be cautious and careful in protecting national interest. Finally, I would
like to conclude my speech by quoting Sri Rabindranath Tagor that
"Where the mind is without fear
and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been
broken up into fragments by
narrow domestic walls;
Where the mind is lead forward by thee
into ever-widening thought and action-
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father,
let my country awake."
