Femap User Interface exercise :
Modify your Femap preferences for your view library
Use the Select Toolbar and the Entity Editor to make
modifications to your model
Use the Data Table to list and sort results
Modify and save a view in your view library

1. Start Femap and modify Femaps Geometry Scale preference.
a) Open the Preferences dialog box with the File, Preferences
command
b) Select the Geometry tab
c) Set the Solid Geometry Scale Factor to Inches (39.37).

2. Open a Femap model file.
a) Using the File, Opencommand, open the file
Femap_Training\models\fanpost.mod. The Femap_Training folder
should be located on your desktop.
3. Save the file in your exercises folder.
a) With the File, Save As command, save the model as
lab3_fanpost.mod in the Femap_Training\exercises folder on your
desktop.

4. If it is not already open, open the
Entity Editor on using Tools, Entity
Editor command
5. On the Select toolbar, choose
Element from Selector Entity menu.
6. Select any element in the model by
placing the cursor over an element
and pressing the left mouse button
a) Examine the element using the Entity
Editor, press in the Color field. press
the Options button in the Color field
and select a new color from the
palette. press the OK button in the
Color Palette dialog box.
b) Press the Update Model icon in the
entity editor to confirm the color
change of the element in the model

7. Run Tools, Data Table and press Lock/Unlock toggle to unlock the Data Table
8. Select any 4 elements in the model (when Element is still the active)
7. Examine the elements in the Data Table, press in the ID Column Header to sort
the elements by element ID

11. Turn off display of columns in the Data Table.
a) press Show/Hide Column icon and
select Layer which will hide the Layer
column in the Data Table.
b) press the icon again and select Update
Multiple Columns and uncheck the field for
element mid-side nodes (M5, M6, M7, M8,
M9, and M10) and press OK.
c) This will hide the M5 through M10 fields in
Data Table

12. Change the view orientation.
a) With the F8 key, select the
Dimetric view in View Rotate
box, press OK to display the
new view.
13. Turn off display of all objects
except for curves and elements
a) Use the Control-Q quick key to
openVisibility dialog box.
b) Select the All Off button.
c) Check on the Curves option.
d) Check on the Elements option.
e) press Done to display the
updated view.

14. Turn on display of the Von Mises Stress contours.
a) With the F5 quick key, open the View Select box.
b) Under Contour Style, select the Contour button.
c) Press the Deformed and Contour Data button.
15. Select the Output Set, Deformed and Contour data to be
displayed.
a) In the Select Postprocessing Data dialog box, use
the pull down under Output Set and select
1..DISTRIBUTED PRESSURE LOAD
b) Under Output Vectors, set the Deformation as
1..Total Transformation.
c) Set Contour to 60031..Solid Von Mises Stress.
d) Press OK to close the dialog box.

16. Press OK to close the View Select dialog box and display the updated view.
17. On the Select Toolbar, choose Show Tooltips from the Selector Modes menu, then
choose Element from Selector Entity menu.
18. Hold your mouse over an element until information appears in Tooltips Window.

19. Hold down the Alt key and press the Right Mouse Button and select Post Data.
20. Change Contour from Solid von Mises Stress to 1..Total Translation and OK.
21. Select another element to display the translation
22. Save your model and exit Femap.
