The club held our AGM on 4
th
April. Bevan Day was re-elected as President, Mary-Anne Walters re-elected as Secretary,
Marilyn Connell re-elected as vice-President and we now welcome a new Treasurer - Mrs Lois Small, who resides on the
Gunalda Range. A big thank you goes to Carol Maxwell who has held the position of Treasurer since 1993. Thats 21 years!
Awesome!
In April, our club made the news TV and newspapers - through an encounter with a burglar who turned out to be an alleged
kidnapper on the run. He made the mistake of breaking into our clubhouse right under the watchful eye of Greg Faulkner (our
neighbourhood watch) who quickly contacted Police. They took a while to get there (it was very late at night), but eventually the
police apprehended the suspect who was making his getaway. He had loaded himself up with whatever he could manage to steal
from our club so was caught red-handed. He left fighting and kicking. Police were able to match his fingerprints to those taken
from the scene of a kidnapping earlier in Childers. They had no leads until then so Gregs quick thinking helped solved two
crimes. Well done Greg! Our club really appreciates what you did and Im sure the police and general public do too!
Hope everyone is trying to get their recommended 120 minutes of moderate exercise every week. If you can have fun while
exercising its even better and thats why tennis is a great choice as it covers those needs. Think about getting a partner to have a
hit out or get a group together. Rossendale Tennis Club has two excellent synthetic grass courts, a great roomy clubhouse wit h
table and lots of seating, BBQ facilities, racquets available for use, and off-road parking. The club is located in a rural setting
only 5 klms from Bauple township and is central to Gundiah and Glenwood localities. Address is 38 Bauple Woolooga Road,
just off the Bruce Highway opposite the southern Bauple Exit/Entrance. For any enquiries or to hire courts please phone Mary-
Anne Walters on 4129 2589; MOB: 04 3837 4091; Bob & Carol Maxwell on 4129 2391; or John & Lyn Kelman on 41 293

Bauple Recreation Grounds Inc.
Q150 Recreation Centre
Hi everyone and welcome to the winter edition of the Bauple Recreation Grounds
review. We hope that you all have plenty of water in your tanks and wood for your
fireplaces.
On May the 14 the Bauple and District Recreation Ground held their AGM which was chaired by Bauple State
Schools new Principle Will Snedden. He did a fantastic job and the results are as follows:-
President: Debbie Brischke, Secretary: Leanne Phali, Treasure: Vickie Willcocks, Vice President: Mary Liddell.
The president gave her report which highly praised the work of the all the members. Debbie was very proud of what
has been achieved over the past 12 months and was looking forward to the future that is looking very bright for the
Q150 Center, the Recreation ground and Bauple as a whole. We look forward to a year of progress, building, music
nights, Bauple Nut Bashes and much much more.
Speaking of the future we have been having a great time with the success of the music club nights. We have been
holding some of them inside the Q150 Recreation Center and they are proving to be a huge success. The equisetic in
the Building seem to complement the music equipment we have and it works just a treat. The artists all seem happy
with the facilities and keep coming back for more. The nights are filling up and we already have our first 2 finalist to
play the Bauple Nut Bash. From the next music night we will find the next 2 artist to play at the Bauple Nut Bash.
The date for the next music night will be July 26th. We would like to thank Emma-Kate, Sarah and Justin for the
wonderful work with the new sound board that we have managed to purchase. They are slowly but surely getting
the hang of the new technical equipment and doing a mighty fine job of it. So keep practicing and we will see you
there.
Speaking of the Bauple Nut Bash it is time to start putting events and ideas into action for this years event. This is
our 9th consecutive year of the Bauple Nut Bash and we look forward to a Bash full of fun and family activity. Our
next monthly meeting on the 11th June will be held at 6:00pm to continue organizing the Bash. At this meeting we
invite you to come along and have your input to this years event. This is your chance to come along and have your
say as to what you want to see or happen or even provide at this years event. The more people that come along and
have their say the better the event will be. The Bauple Nut Bash will take the same format as has done in the past
but we are always open to new ideas.
The work on the inside of the Q150 Building is progressing nicely and we are very proud of the work that is being
achieved. We would like to thank all our volunteers that come along and help on the days were we make progress
to our Building. Thanks go to Damien, Garry, Gil, and Darren for the installation of our new timber slab window
sills. They have come up beautifully. The internal walls are nearly all the way around the inside, so soon it will be
painting time. If you can help in any way please feel free to contact us.
Our fundraising efforts at the Gregs IGA on a Sunday morning with a Sausage Sizzle Stand is proving to be very
successful . We are developing a regular customer base which is great. We even had a drive thru customer, very
funny stuff. We thank all those that have come in and supported us on these days. We have another date on the 15th
of June and one on the 20th of July. Our Thanks go to IGA for their continued support.
Dont forget our meetings for your ideas for the Bauple Bash. Our music night and of course our Friday Family Fun
Nights, they are held on the 1st & 3rd Friday night of each month and depending on the week depends on the menu.
We like to change the menu every now and then. The next Family Night is this Friday the 6th June at 6:00pm where
our menu is meat, vegetarian and apple pies. See you there.
Our next Bauple Kids Hangout will be Friday 27th June, where the Centre will be open from 6pm for the local kids
to come and meet with their friends. Entry is free and drinks, chocolates, chips and dinner will be on sale.
Well friends that is enough from me this time and I will type more again next time, until then stay safe, stay warm,
and always tell your kids you love them.
Mary Liddell
(Vice President).

Bauple Rural Fire Brigade News
Welcome to the winter months, we cannot complain so far, you know what Mary Poppins says Perfect in every way Its a

make this all possible, from the Bauple Brigades humble beginnings (see it all in the Mount Bauple and District Historical

FRASER COAST COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASES
Local Lunchtime History Talk
Local historian Ron Allen will host the next Lunch Time Local History Talk at the
Maryborough Library on Tuesday, 10 June from 12noon.
Ron will speak on the history of the Maryborough Ambulance Service which was formed over a century ago.
The horse-drawn ambulance wagon was used until 1915 when the first motor ambulance - a six-cylinder Fiat - went into service, a gift
made possible by the generosity of the employees of Walkers Limited.
The Lunch Time Local History Talks are held on the second Tuesday of every month at noon at the Maryborough Library.
The talks are free, but bookings are essential by contacting the library on 4190 5788.
BAUPLE ROADWORKS
Work has just finished on an NDRRA and Council funded project to repair the Stringers Crossing
culvert on Bauple Drive. The ballast was washed away and the road damaged in 2013 floods.
As part of the $110,000 project, concrete was used to replace some of the ballast and new ballast
brought in to protect the culvert from future floods and the bank repaired to protect the road.

Research reaping results for the Mary River turtle
The Mary River turtle is shy and elusive by nature, hence its ability to avoid discovery of its natural habitat in the
Mary River untl 1990. Now the use of modern technology is gradually opening the doors to some of its secrets.
Tiaro Landcare Group and researchers from The University of Queensland have been using infra-red surveillance
cameras to monitor the nestng behaviour of this shy turtle. Cameras have been deployed every year for the past
fve years on the same nestng bank. Using specifc image analysis sofware, tens of thousands of images have
been analysed with surprising results.
Images from the last two nestng seasons have just been analysed. Researcher, Dr Mariana Campbell found that
for one of the identfed nestng females, 2013 was the fourth nestng season she accessed the same nestng bank
since 2009. Furthermore, two other identfed females have been recorded accessing this same bank through
three diferent seasons. Dr Campbell said There are images of many turtles, but we are able identfy only the
ones with a distnctve notch on their carapace. She concluded Our research indicates that Mary River turtles
exhibit some nest site fdelity. We now have images of the same turtles returning to the same nestng bank year
afer year.
Adrian Ross, the President of Tiaro & District Landcare Group said While Landcare Groups such as ours, are good
at getng their hands dirty, we need solid scientfc research that is peer reviewed, to make sure our actons are
most efectve. That is why we value our relatonship with researchers. It helps keep us on track.
Financial assistance from the Qld Government, Everyones Environment Grant assisted with ofsetng some out
of pocket expenses of this research project.
The bronze turtle sculpture, known locally as MR T (pronounced Mister T) will soon be shifed from the Tiaro
Library to his new home being constructed beside the Tiaro Craf Cotage. While this is a Fraser Coast Council
project, Tiaro Landcare has been working with them in providing local informaton etc.
Everyone is welcome to drop in to Landcare House (below the current Doctors surgery in Tiaro) when it is open
on Thursdays. Lots of free landcare informaton & displays.

The Scout Section have had a night of construction,
a night of making Mothers Day gifts, helped set up
for our Annual Presentation Night and we had a
combined Sideshow Alley program Show week..
We had 10 Side Show alley bases, one of which was
making a Show Bag which later got filled with
goodies. To take home.
The Cub Section have also been busy with fun
programs Including making Mothers Day gifts and
practicing their singing which they entertained
everyone with at the Presentation Night. They also
all attended the District Cub Scout camp where
everyone had a lot of fun.
Our Joey Scout Olivia was invested on the
Presentation night. Also all our youth members
received a certificate. Kynan got Most Improved
Scout and Dakotah got Scout of the Year. Falcon
Patrol took out Patrol of the Year. As our Cub
section has really only got under way in the last
month of the Scouting year we did not have a Cub
Scout of the Year but will have that next year
Section ages are as follows:
Joey Scouts 6 to 7.5 years
Cub Scouts 7 to 10.5 years
Scouts 10 to 14.5 years
Venturer Scouts 14 to 17.5 years

received from Tiaro RSL Sub-branch. Our Scouts
had fun following some compass trails last week,
as did two of the Cub Scouts who are working on
their Silver Boomerang.
We are having a stall at the Museum on the 14th
June, when the Bauple Heritage Trail is launched.
We are hoping to sign up a Joey Scout Leader and
an Assistant Group Leader shortly.
It would be nice to see a couple more prospective
Joey Scout members.
New members are always welcome in the Cub
Scout and Scout Sections also.

Bopple Surgery News
New Doctor Update: Significant progress has been made in securing the services of a second
doctor. APHRA has approved our application and we will keep you posted when a definite start
date is known.
Fees Update: Our aim is to be able to continue to be a Bulk Billing practice and thereby keep
medical fees affordable. We are also aware of the long wait to get an appointment with the doctor.
Lately, many patients have failed to attend their appointments without notifying us, this is frustrating
as we could have re-booked these appointment times with other patients needing attention. This is
also a financial drain on the practice. Reluctantly we have started to implement a $20.00 failure to
cancel fee to encourage patients to become more considerate to others in the community who
also need to be seen.
We have also introduced a $5.00 fee which will apply to repeat prescriptions collected outside the
scheduled appointment times of 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM, this should help to streamline our day so
that we can see more patients. In other words if you collect your scripts before 9:00 AM you will get
them for free.
Please be aware that we are closed between 12:00 & 1:00 PM every day.
For further information please contact our Practice Manager, Glenn Genger, who is available at the
surgery on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays.

ACWW Women Walk the World
As planned, the QCWA Gootchie and Tiaro Branch members held their Women Walk the World fundraising event for the
Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) on the 29
th
of April. The ladies dressed in ACWWs organisational colour,
green, and carrying ACWW banners and green balloons gathered at the Royal Hotel in Mayne St Tiaro. Our small but happy
group set off enthusiastically through Tiaro toward their destination at the Hideaway Hotel.
Along the way there were calls of support from passing drivers, plenty of chats and laughter; as well as photo opportunities,
with a friendly local passer-by being called on to take a group shot on the hump back railway bridge. Luckily not too much
traffic was around to hold up; just a smiling tradie in his ute.
After completing our walk and reaching the Hideaway Pub the ladies all enjoyed a cool drink and a chat......did not imbibe at
that early hour!!
Along with the ladies individual sponsorship money, funds were raised by donation. Businesses in Tiaro township generously
allowed donation boxes and an ACWW information sheet to be placed for a week before the event. Many thanks to the
business owners, staff, Tiaro community and visitors who donated funds and help make our event a success. Our appreciation
goes to the Royal and Hideaway Hotels, Foodworks, Bush & Bay Caf, Tiaro Meats, B&H Rural and Tiaro Garden Centre.
We enjoyed our walk, with beautiful weather making for a very pleasant morning of fundraising for ACWW.

where your membership helps support the whole community.
