By: M H Altaf: Oh! These Intellectual' Saviors'... What If They Had Not Been Around?
Yasin Malik's recent comments on Kashmiri columnists received strong responses from two prominent intellectuals with opposing ideologies. The author is surprised by the identical language used in their responses and questions their criticism of Malik without hearing the full context of his remarks. While acknowledging the important role of intellectuals, the author argues that their contributions cannot compare to the sacrifices made by resistance leaders like Malik who faced imprisonment and torture over decades of struggle. The intellectuals are accused of trying to portray themselves as the true leaders of the movement rather than respecting the blood spilled by the real leaders on the ground.

Oh! These intellectual saviors...
What if they had not
been around? Yasin Maliks comment on columnists fnds A speck in somebodys beard. By: M H ALTAF Yasin Maliks recent comment on valleys columnists got a lighting fash response from two of our highly rated intellectuals... That too on the same day was e!pecting a response "ut not such a similar one from ideologies poles apart to each other. #ne who always writes against resistance and in support of ndia and another who writes in support of $akistan and tries to portray a certain leader as a sole leader% &esponse was inevita"le "ut the timing and the identical voca"ulary "y two di'erent minds surprised me. am not concerned a"out the ndian perspective "ecause e!pect anything from it and hence that deserves no reply( "ut instead what persisted on my mind were comments from the columnist who is reckoned to "e a pro)resistance writer. *hile re"utting Yasin Malik openly e!pressed his heart out against such an ideology. ronically the so called +great columnist "ut inspite of his a"sentia from the seminar and without even knowing the conte!t of Yasin Maliks speech attri"uted many things to him. ,eemingly the columnist seems upset "ecause Yasin Malik posed some "itter -uestions which might have left his mind in a state of convulsion. Yasin Malik rarely minces his words while deli"erating on issues related to his nation. .e doesnt a"sor" shot term +"ene/ts of dou"le standards and dual meaning words. .e should have "een enough knowledgea"le to act like these great thinkers who in 0112 supported Mirwai3) 4dvani talks and from 0115 onwards left no stone unturned in making us "elieve that 4r6un of Maha"arta lives among us and we all should follow him. The art of *orshipping the rising sun.. 7iven the fact that Yasin Malik and his "rigade started the resistance movement inspite of knowing that it is as fearful as playing with the +whiskers of a ferocious tiger 8+the gun culture +as put "y the +daring writer9 that eventually closed the chapter of election politics in :ashmir. This is also true that Yasin Malik+s movement in ;<<1 was proved to "e a wakeup call which woke up kashmiris from their deep hi"ernation and this watered many mouths and they too 6umped to catch hold of the ferocious tiger though they /rst started getting rid of their predecessors and the "rigade that started the resistance had to face two guns at the same time. *ithout a shadow of the dou"t Yasin Malik and his associates converted their swords into ploughshares much to the distress and discomfort of those who wanted to see them eliminated. t is also true that they while fip fopping from taking to arms and laying them down they did not seek permission from +all knowing columnists "ecause on "oth the occasions these intellectuals where either missing or en6oying government 6o"s or advisers to the camp that imagined wiping o' =:>? "efore ndia as a no"le 6o" . @ow we are "eing told that the resistance against ndia has not "een safeguarded "y resistance leaders "ut "y these +fearless pen soldiers. *hat an intellectual u)turn is this the martyrs from Ma-"ool Ahat to recently martyred Mudasir have wasted their lives. These so called think tanks are pressing hard to make people "elieve that these sacri/ces in which huge amount of "lood was spilit was nothing as compared to few drops of their ink.isnt it ama3ing that Yasin Malik and other resistance leaders who faced interrogation centers and thousands of those young "oys who sacri/ced their future and everything would have "etrayed the nation and lost their way( if these stalwarts of words would not have "een there. *e( who have gone through 6ails( tortures( who always have "ad dreams of "eing tortured( killed( e!iled or arrested are "eing told that it is not our e'orts "ut some ink dirtied hands at "ay from cele"rating victory over kashmiris. Yasin Malik should have understood the power of these +stalwarts when he travelled through thousands of villages and towns in 011B(the year "efore these great thinkers started a peoples revolution. >eaders .we are told do funny things. They are feeling e!hausted and fatigued. #h great. These pen pecked people sitting in their drawing rooms( en6oying lu!uries can feel the fatigue of leaders with operated hearts( kidneys and heads so easily. They are +gods of our times. They know everything( even the inner of the hearts and minds of leaders. This is "ecause of these +godly a"ilities( wisdom and courage that these +intellectuals have self styled themselves into 6udges who can 6udge leaders and their worth. #ur +worthy columnist also e!posed the leaders faws. .e resem"les their acts with ,hiv ,ainiks. .e also provides us the e!ample of some editor who was manhandled "ecause he portrayed the other side of a leader. .ow ama3ingC The great writer is telling us that leaders should "ear every true and false write)ups even the yellow 6ournalism. want to ask this great warrior of our times that if it is your write)ups that have kept the resistance alive why is ndia after ,yed 4li shah 7eelani( Yasin Malik etc. ndia to cele"rate its victory has 6ust one mode to follow .put a halt on your thinking a"ilities( "reak your pen and it is all overso simpleand you want us to "elieve that this nation lost nothing when $rof wani( Doctor 7uru and =alil ndra"i were killed. You must know that there is no comparison "etween you and those greats. They sacri/ced their carriers and em"raced martyrdom. They were not spared like you despite all your heroics. *hy% totally agree that intellectuals are the cream of a society. t is Yasin Malik who right from the start of the struggle in ;<<1( not only encouraged "ut invited intellectuals to the resistance movement and when am compelled to reply some"odys accusations please dont take me wrong. am aware of the role of thinkers and writers for the society and in no way am underestimating the role of the ink they spread over white papers "ut in return they will also have to respect the "lood spilled "y me to nourish the common cause. 4s put "y @oam Ehomsky FThe intellectual world is deeply conformist. *hat this nation needs is no conformists "ut some nonGconformists who like $rofessor *ani would die "ut not compromise on principles.
