Students will use our class wiki to post their projects.

Students will be required to review and constructively respond to a classmates
project on the wiki site.

(Assessment Adaptations)

This project is designed to be a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) because it is

designed for students with various learning styles. Students are asked to show their
knowledge and what they have learned by using any means of presentation.
Students are asked to use any form of technology to demonstrate their knowledge of
the Civil War.
Students can use music, video or writing to “show-what-you-know.”
Students learn and demonstrate their knowledge in different ways. It is important for
students to be able to show me what they have learned in their own way.

Stage 3 – Learning Plan

Learning Activities Teacher will have one class period to

discuss important topics during the Civil
War. Topics that have already been
covered.
Teacher and students will discuss
different forms of technology (web 2.0),
how they are used.
Teacher and students will brainstorm
ideas for project. Ideas of what students
can do for their project. Ex: video, pod-
cast, song, poem, play, cell phone, blog,
etc.
All projects must include some form of
technology.

2. Instructional Strategies/Learning Teacher will have a class

Activities: demonstration on how to use different
e.g., demonstration, discussion, small groups, forms of web 2.0 technology.
role play, etc.
Discussion on how to make project
accessible to all students with all learning
styles.
Ex: Create a poem and use audacity to
record and upload to the class wiki.

3. Introducing the lesson: Students will be shown a student work

prior knowledge). this project.

students who need to learn how to use
specific technology.

Adaptations to the Instructional Sequence to UDL: Universal Design for Learning:
Differentiate: Instructional sequence will not need to
be adapted.
The project is designed to meet the
needs of all learners in the class by
allowing students to work with a
technology and topic that suits them
and their learning style. Ex: Students
who are not good writers can create a
project that uses video to explain how
the Civil War would have been different
had technology been available.

4. Discussion and Assessment of Learning: Teacher will provide students with a

technology was not available during the
Civil War.
Teacher will discuss with students how
technology would have effected the Civil
War.
Students will respond to class
discussion.
Teacher will be able to informally
assess students by their participation in
discussion.
Technology is very important to us
today as a society. This project is related
to the driving question by asking students
to think about how advanced our society
with technology.
How could our technology today have
effected the Civil War, the people and
the events.
5. Closure: Students will upload their projects to
our class wiki.
Students will respond to a classmates
project by making a constructive response
to the class wiki.
Students will present their project to the
class by using the smart board and the
class wiki.

6. Extensions for early finishers: Early finishers can go to any Civil War
website and research topics.
Early finishers can practice using web
2.0 technology on the computers in the
classroom.

7. Alternate strategies for struggling Students who are struggling will be

students or those who learn paired with a classmate to do peer tutoring
differently: using web 2.0 technology.
Students who are struggling will work
on their project with a classmate who
has finished.
8. Procedures: Students will be able to use computer
(already established procedures to be used lab time to work on project.
and procedures to be taught for this lesson) Students will be given time during each
block to work on project.
Teacher will be available during class
time to help students develop project.
Teacher will be available to help
students become members of our class
wiki.
Teacher will help students upload their
projects to the class wiki and make
sure all links (where needed) work
properly.
