Content Locking Profits

The A-Z Guide to $100+ per day with Content Locking

By Bryan ONeil and Thomas Smale
From www.ContentLockPro.com

November 2012
What is Content Locking?
Content Locking is exactly how it sounds. You have a website with content and using a
content locker (sometimes referred to as a gateway) you can lock your content. While the
content is locked, a frame is placed over the webpage which blocks the visitor from seeing
and interacting it.

But why do I want to lock my content? I hear you ask. Well, contained within the locker
(as you can see in the example above) are CPA offers, which when completed by a visitor to
your site unlocks the content for them, and (the best part) earns you money.
Note: CPA stands for Cost Per Action. This means that instead of getting paid for making a
sale, you get paid when a visitor completes a certain action, such as entering their email
address or zip code, completing a survey, etc.
In the last few years content locking has become one of the easiest and fastest ways for
website owners and internet marketers to make money from their websites content. The
reason that it works so well is Incentive. You are giving your sites visitors a reason to
complete an offer - access to your content.
Now for content locking to work, you need to be offering content that a visitor will want to
access. The best part is that you can content look ANYTHING on your site - posts, pages,
videos, images, e-books, download links, etc. Basically if you can put it on your website, you
can lock it!
In a nutshell, the 4 steps to Content Locking are:
Create a site with content that your visitors are going to want
Join up with CPA networks that have offers for content locking
Lock your content with a content locker
Drive traffic to your site

GETTING STARTED
Choosing a Niche:
To get started with content locking you obviously need to have a site with content that you
can lock. If you dont already have one, this means deciding on a niche for your website.
When choosing your niche to use with content locking, you should first consider the types of
people that would complete a CPA offer in order to unlock content. Some examples of these
are:
High School students
16 to 20 year olds
People that are desperate for specific content
People that are looking to improve in something
By thinking about the type of people who would complete an offer for content will definitely
help you in deciding on the niche for your site. You may find niches where these audience
types overlap; this is no bad thing as this can only increase the amount of people who
convert on an offer.
If you are still having trouble coming up with a niche for a site, then here are some ideas.

TV & Movie Sites:
People always want to see the latest films and TV online, and are used to having to
complete offers or see ads in order to watch them. If you want to narrow your niche, then
you could focus on a specific genre of film, or even focus on a particular TV series.
The dangers with this niche are that it is highly saturated, as well as the issues of
hosting/showing copyrighted content. If you are planning on hosting the videos yourself
then make sure that you do it offshore.

Adult Sites:
If you offer adult content for free and all a visitor has to do to access it is to complete a CPA
offer, then you will find that you can get a lot of conversions. Adult content, particularly if it
involves a celebrity, appear amongst some of the highest search terms on the internet

How To Sites:
If you have a talent or knowledge in something that you could teach through videos or e-
books then create a site about it. Publish the first video or chapter for unlocked, and ten
content lock the rest.

Answer Sites:
People love knowing the answers to questions, and the internet is where most people will go
to find those answers. The types of answers that people are looking for are driving theory
tests, online quizzes, trivia board games, TV game shows, and school tests and exams.

Website Template and Graphics Sites:
If you can make templates and graphics for your websites, then make some nice ones. List
them on template sites, but lock the download file with a content lock.

Discount Sites:
People will do anything for a bargain, so if you are offering coupons, vouchers, or promo
codes for products then you will find that most people who are looking for these discounts
wont hesitate to complete an offer to get them (particularly if the offers you have in your
locker are also for discounts and giveaways).

Computer Game Sites:
The audience for computer games and computer game related sites is huge. There is a lot
of content that the audience would complete an offer for in order to unlock it, i.e. cheats,
walkthroughs, demos, guides, vouchers, character skin downloads, mods, maps, in-game
currency, etc.

Those are just a few ideas to get you started, but essentially the possibilities are endless. If
you can put something that people want, then you can lock it. You just need to think about
who is most likely to complete an offer for content, and what content is worth completing an
offer to unlock. For more ideas, check out the Content Locking Methods section.

Creating Your Site:
Once you have decided on your niche, its time to create your site. I'm not going to cover
the technical points of how you set up a site here (i.e. buying the domain name, hosting,
etc.), as this is an e-book about Content Locking, and there are already enough guides out
here on how to set up a website.
However, I would recommend using WordPress to create your site, as its easy to install
onto a site, easy to use and thanks to a whole range of themes and plugins, its completely
customizable. Once you have the structure of your site, its time to start adding the content
that you want to lock.
Despite the name Content Locking you dont actually need a lot of content to lock. You can
just lock one page, video, image, download link, etc. The content doesnt even need to be
yours (for example, most TV sites that contain a content locker have embedded the video
from another site). All you need to do is make sure that you have something thats worth
unlocking, and be able to drive traffic to it (more on that later).
Its worth pointing out that your website doesnt have to be complex or have amazing
design. In truth some of the best sites that convert with content locking are really simple in
design and navigation (some are simply 2 pages). Remember, you dont want to lock your
whole domain; you need an unlocked page to sell the content you are locking to your
audience, so when they eventually arrive at the content locker, they are more likely to
complete an offer to get it.

Another option when creating your site is to not actually create one. You can buy one
instead! A great way to get started in content locking is to buy bargain websites that aren't
being monetized with content locking. You can find sites on Flippa (other website auction
sites are available!) that are already receiving decent traffic, but are badly monetized. Just
because someone is selling a site because its not making them money doesn't mean you
can't earn from it. Most site owners don't even think about content locking. Keep an eye out
for sites with decent traffic which have the potential for adding a content lock.

Joining a CPA Network:
By now, you should have chosen your niche, made your site and have content ready to be
locked. You now need to join up with a CPA network so you can actually have offers to
promote in a Content Locker. In actual fact you can do this at any stage during your sites
creation process, but for the purpose of this guide Im putting it here.
Now, while there are a LOT of CPA networks out there, you are only going to be interested
in joining up with networks that have offers that are suitable for a content locker (i.e.
Incentivized offers). Some good networks to join are:
CPATank
Adscend Media
Adwork Media
BlamAds
Some of these networks have their own built-in content lockers, while others dont. With
that said, my strong suggestion is to always use your own content locker, such as Content
Lock Pro (see our WSO here - http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-special-offers-
forum/388108-1000-happy-buyers-content-lock-pro-2-0-triple-your-income-today-next-gen-
content-locker.html) as this way you will be able to:
a) Promote offers from multiple CPA networks at the same time (always recommended)
b) Have full control over your locker
c) Not be at the mercy of the CPA network and get paid for ALL the leads that you
bring, rather than a fraction (many networks are known to shave leads)

Remember when joining a network to be open and honest about what you are intending to
do, and that you are intending to use content locking. You are much more likely to get in if
you tell the truth about your Internet Marketing experience and how you intend to use their
network to monetize your site, than if you tell them what you think they will want to hear.
For a moment, lets look a bit more into the advantages over using an independent content
locker. With a content locker like Content Lock Pro these are:
Once you are signed up to 2 or more CPA networks, you can host offers from
multiple networks on the same locker.
You have complete freedom over what offers you add to your locker.
You control the hosting of your locker. This means that if the networks server goes
down, you won't lose your locker (its a rare occurrence, but it does happen).
You have complete control over the design of your lockers appearance, the text that
appears in the locker, and the text that you use as the offer link.
You can easily set up your locker for Geo-Targeting (meaning that you wont lose out
on International traffic).
You can test multiple networks and offers from one central installation.
You control the referrer (the network doesnt need to see where your traffic is
coming from).
You can choose between Timer Unlocking (the content is unlocked after a specified
amount of time) or Postback (the content only unlocks after an offer is completed)
There are many more advantages of going the independent locker route, but for now let's
get back to how to make money with Content Locking.
Once you are joined up with some CPA Networks, you can go ahead and create your locker
and place it on your site. Setting up and installing a content locker is straight forward; its
essentially a case of copying and pasting code. You will find full instructions on how to set
up your locker and help from the CPA network or the independent content locker provider.

Getting Traffic to your Site:
So you have a website, you have content, and most importantly, you have it locked by a
content locker. Its now time to get some traffic to it, so you can start making money.
When starting ANY site (not just sites that are content locked) you want to get quick, free
and easy traffic to it. Due to the nature of content locking where you are effectively selling
your content, you need to find where people are going to be looking for it to get your traffic.

Some good places to get free traffic from:
Search Engines: Hopefully when making your site you will have included keywords
and phrases in your domain name, tags and content, which the search engines will
find when someone searches for them.
Facebook: Create a profile (spend some time to make it look like a real person i.e.
include photos and updates) and then go and find Fan Pages that are in your niche
and post on them about this great site that youve found - YOUR site
Yahoo Answers: You can find questions about anything on Yahoo Answers, so you
will be able to find something that is relevant to your site. Simply find a question and
answer it, mentioning your site of course. (While you will be able to post your URL as
text, you need to be level 2 or higher for them to become links - see BlackHatWorld
for more tips on getting to level 2)
Answers.com: Similar to the Yahoo Answers method, however there isnt as much
spam on there.
Forums: Find forums in your niche, sign up and post. If you can include a link in your
signature then even better.
Blogs: Find blogs in your niche and leave comments with links to your site (either in
the comment or as your signature)
A good way to find these is to set up Google Alerts for all your relevant keywords. This will
alert you to any new press releases, blog posts and forum posts that are made containing
your keywords. Just go to the sites in your alerts and take action.
This quick traffic is ideal for testing your site, your locker and the offers you are promoting.
To start with you may only be getting 100 visitors a day, but thats enough to see how your
locker is performing. You can tweak your lockers appearance and the offers to see which
combinations work best. Sometimes it takes only the slightest change to a locker to improve
performance, such as changing the font.
After you have done some testing with the free traffic and have tweaked your locker and
found the best performing offers, its time to go after the serious traffic. By this I mean
investing some time (and money) in SEO and PPC (Pay Per Click).
Remember that SEO is not instant. When you read about people who are making $xx,xxx
per month through promoting there sites through SEO , its taken them years to get to that
level.
With PPC, while officially you cant use it with Content Locking, there are ways to get
around it. For example, if you have a site that is big enough with enough free content and
only certain elements where content locked (i.e. videos and download links -NOT pages)
then its possible to start a Google AdWords campaign. This is because when Google come
to review the site, they wont see the content locker so will approve the ad.
NOTE: You may get caught out eventually, but you should have made some decent money
by then.

So in summary:
Identify the target audiences who are most likely to complete an offer for content.
Choose a niche that appeals to those target audiences.
Create (or buy) a site and add enticing content which you can lock.
Join up with multiple CPA networks that have Incentivised offers.
Drive quick free traffic to your site and locked content.
Tweak your site, locker, and offers to its full potential.
Scale up the traffic with SEO and PPC

Content Locking Methods
Having looked at the basic overview of what you need to do to get started in content
locking, let's have a look at a few methods already in use by people using content locking
that you could utilize.

Sports Live Streams:
Set up a very simple site based around a popular sport (baseball, football, soccer, etc.).
Ideally you should be looking for a sport that has a large following and that has a major
event (i.e. World Series, World Cup, etc.)
Create a page along the lines of Watch [sporting event] Here LIVE! It doesnt need to be
fancy, just a header (you can rip this from another site), an introduction to the event and a
video player with an embedded stream. If you want you dont even need to source a live
stream for the site, just find a video that is showing a previous game or highlights.
Add a content locker to this page thats on a timer delay to pop up after about 20-30
seconds after the page loads (or if your locker allows 20-30 seconds after the visitor clicks
the play button). This way the visitor gets to start seeing some of the game, so they now
the video works, before being presented with a content locker.
Add some relevant offers to the content locker (most networks will have a ton of offers
themed around major sporting events) and add a message to the locker along the lines of
please take 30 seconds to visit one of our sponsors and support the site the live stream
will then unlock
Once your site and locker are ready its time to drive some traffic. Find blogs, forums, and
Facebook fan pages (basically anywhere where your target audience are online) and post
like crazy with links back to your site. Stuff like Are you watching the game tonight? Im
going to be watching it here [link to your site] work quite well.

Torrents:
Torrent sites are really popular as people are always looking for stuff for free, so dont mind
filling out a CPA offer to get something that they would have to pay actual money for. To
use content locking with torrents what you need to do is to download the latest and/or
popular films, music, software, computer games, and e-books (anything that can be sent
digitally through a torrent) and then zip it up but with a protected password.
Next create a text file which says Thank you for downloading. To unlock this file please use
the password which you can find at [link to your site]. Then zip the password protected zip
file and the text file together into one zip file and convert it to a torrent.
Your site that holds the password doesnt need to be anything special at all (you dont even
need keywords). A simply HTML page, with a thanks for downloading message and the
password for the zip file is all you need. Obviously you need to set up your content locker to
appear as soon as the page is opened and positioned right over the password.
With a set up like this you dont need to worry about keywords as much as you would if you
were promoting a site, all you need to do is make sure that you are producing torrents of
films, games, etc. that people are searching for.

Celebrity Gossip:
Using a combination of Google trends, Yahoo, and news sites you can keep an eye out on
the latest celebrity happenings throughout the world. By keeping an eye out for interesting
topics (celebrity sex tapes/nudes are always a big winner) you can throw up a quick micro
niche site for when one something pops up. Grab a domain name which has the celebrity
name plus some keywords associated to the story in the domain. Ideally with these topics
what your visitors will be looking for is exclusive pictures and videos related to that news.
Usually as soon as the gossip starts to trend you can find some pretty decent images and
video links for the story on Google (remember, you dont need to have exclusive content -
you just need to market it as though it is!)
To make one of these sites all you need is a simple landing page which has some brief
information about the news story and a link to See the exclusive images of {celebrity name
and what they are doing] HERE!. This will link to your content locked page which contains
your photos, videos, etc. Make sure that your content locker is set to appear almost as soon
as the page loads so your visitor only gets the briefest of glimpses of the photos/video
(especially important if the photos you are using arent entirely genuine).
If you are using a content locker that allows you to use your own images as the
background, you can create your own locker that features the celebrity in question on it (if
you arent confident enough to create one, you can get a Fiverr gig to make one for you).
The types of offers that work well here are simple email and zip code submits, as they are
relatively quick to complete.
To grab your audience use Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Just look for fan pages, videos
and tweets related to the celebrity in question and comment about Have you seen the
pictures of [celebrity name and what they are doing] on [link to your site] yet?

Conclusion
This concludes the short introduction to content locking. By now you should have some
good ideas for your first (or next!) content locking project that will help you generate some
serious revenue.
As always, wed love to hear about your success stories so please post within the forum
thread or e-mail us at [email protected] to let us know how you did!
Take care!
