MUSIC
THINK LIVERPOOL, THINK
THE BEATLES. THE CITY IS
OFFICIALLY THE WORLD
CAPITAL OF POP, AND THE FAB
FOUR ARE, OF COURSE, ITS
MOST FAMOUS OFFSPRING.
Non-negotiable is a trip to The
Beatles Story at Albert Dock,
a brilliant tour through The
Beatles lives, with fascinating
memorabilia and insights from
friends and family. You should
also pop into the Cavern Club on
Mathew Street, the most famous
club in the world, for a beer and
live music or visit Mendips and
20 Forthlin Road in Allerton,
the childhood homes of John
Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney,
both National Trust properties.
The city also has a celebrated
live music scene, as well as
numerous musical festivals worth
checking out. Mojo is a rocking
live music bar, where the drinks
are mixed to perfection and
the bands are awesome, and
Liverpool is of course the home
of the legendary Garlands, the
ultimate nightclub for party
people.
The citys waterfront Echo
Arena is the venue for big-
name international acts such as

CRUISE
LIVERPOOL
LIVERPOOLS ICONIC
WATERFRONT IS
WELCOMING MORE
VISITORS THAN EVER,
AS PASSENGERS
DISCOVER WHY IT IS
SUCH A POPULAR
CRUISE DESTINATION
Liverpool is known globally for
its close links with the sea. It is a
city with a rich maritime history
stretching back centuries, and
the water plays a huge role in
Liverpool life to this day. Its
iconic waterfront, largely built in
connection with maritime trade,
is the dening image of the city
and getting the ferry cross the
Mersey is a must for all visitors.
While freight ships and ferries are
still a regular sight on the River
Mersey though, these days they
are joined by something a little
more luxurious.
Liverpool Cruise Terminal
welcomes liners from around
the world into that famous
waterfront, which is a key part of
Liverpools status as a UNESCO
World Heritage site. The cruise
berth stands at the Pier Head, in
the shadow of the Three Graces
The Cunard Building, Port of
Liverpool Building and, of course,
The Royal Liver Building atop
which sit the guardians of the
city, the Liver birds. These three
buildings ensure a striking rst
impression of the city.
Just further along the waterfront
is Albert Dock, a complex of dock
buildings and warehouses rst
opened in 1846. Nowadays, they
are home to a fantastic range of
restaurants, cafes, bars, museums
and clubs which cater for every
taste, from morning to late night.
There is also the outstanding
Museum of Liverpool, a
72million development which is
the most visited museum outside
of the capital.
Since opening in 2007,
Liverpool Cruise Terminal
has proved very popular
with visitors and in 2014 will
welcome more than 70,000
passengers on 50 ships. Its
popularity saw Liverpool
recently selected as Best
UK Port of Call at the
Cruise Critic UK Editors Pick
Awards. This phenomenal
growth is a symbol of the
citys renaissance over the last
decade, and Liverpool looks
set to become even more
popular as a world class cruise
destination in years to come.
