HUFL APP
INTRODUCTION
Ever wondered where the nearest healthy food outlet is? The HUFL App will provide you
with directions to your nearest healthy food outlet. Most people will tend to go to the first
think they think when fast food is mentioned. Carls Jr, McDonalds, the list goes on. But with
the use of the HUFL App this will not be a problem. Obesity is one of the highest problems
occuring in modern day society (Signal, 2014), with the help of the HUFL App, it will be
easier to locate heathly shops and take a step forward to lowering the obeasity rate. With
this app there is no excuse in not knowing where shops are. The incentive of earing points
and using them on gaining discounts at participating gyms and food outlets is an added
bonus.
3. BUSINESS SECTION
3.1 Vision
Providing our society with the link between health and everyday technology.
3.2 Industry Analysis: Navigation App Industry
Industry: Navigation Application Industry Mobile Phone application software that is
developed for small low-power handheld devices such as smart phones.
Force: High/Low: Justification:
Buyer power: High
Mobile phones are a growing industry around the
world. There are more and more applications
becoming available to customers everyday. There
are lots of Apps to choose from although a
healthy food locator may be rare but there are
other navigation Apps that consumers are able to
choose from. This gives it a high buyer price.

3

3
(Suter, 2012)
Supplier power: Low
There are already many app designers and
developers out there creating apps similar to this.
There are already many services available to
consumers especially social media applications
thus leaving the supplier power low.
(Suter, 2012)
Threat of new entrants: High
This is high as it is easy to enter the industry of
mobile phone applications. To get tho the top and
be successful though is much harder due to the
large amount of other developers. A special x
factor is needed to become notied in this industry
(Suter, 2012)
Threat of substitutes: High All sorts of content are able to be found in the
forms of apps and other forms of content. Such as
the internet and traditional newspapers ect. An
App is not the only play to source this information
but it is not as convenient.
(Suter, 2012)
Rivalry among existing
competitors:
High There are a lot of cometitors in the development
of applications industry, with the enhancing of
technology more and more deveopers enter the
market, thus rivalry is high.
(Suter, 2012)
Overall attractiveness of the industry: In recent times the App development industry has
been growing fast. This means that there are many competitors to compete with. Although
there are a large amount of developers this does not neccisarily mean that it's a hard

industry to enter into. If an app was developed well targeting a specific audience this
reduces the amount of competitors increasing the chances of becoming successful. This may
increase profitability in the long run if successful.
3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs
Our customer base is pretty simple, catering for people who are genuinely concered about
their health and well being. People who want to eat a healthy lifestyle while still getting the
satisfation of a convinient simple to use App. Recent research has lead to many news
articles ststing that obeasity is a major problem (Morton, 2014). People will be looking for
simple subtle ways to change and our App is simple and easy to use.
This is targeted to the general everyday, working citizen who want to eat healthily.

3.5 Suppliers and Partners
Supplier/partner 1: Mobile application developers, as we will not be able make it our of thin
air, someone will need to create the technology along with mapping services to successfully
program the application.

5

5
Supplier/partner 2: Healthy food suppliers/promoters, without their support and
contribution we would have no place to offer or no rewards to offer in return. The
customers will have no where to search for if the healthy food outlets were not registered
and located. As we are both using a mutual support scheme where as the operating shops
pay us for marketing we are able to offer the application for free to guide the user to the
shops direction.
This collabriation with healthy living promoting busniesses will be a positive on both the App
and the business.
3.6 Strategy: Cost Leadership
As we are proving this app for free to begin with, to entice the users to download this app,
this will be a low cost strategy. Although most apps on the market these days are below the
$2 mark we will provinde it for free as then there is no excuse to have the app. It has been
designed with everyday use, for people who are looking to lose weight so it will be a broad
market as there are many people searching for the best way to live a healthy life, thus
having a broad competitive scope.
The overall strategy is therefore Cost Leadership.
3.7 Value Chain Activity: Service After Sale
The most important value chain activity for this business is Service After Sale.
The level of success is measured by the convinience of this app meaning the customer feed
back will provide us with the needed information to release new update and to better our
product. Allowing more fucntions and better partnerships with other retailers to broaden
the sales aspect. We will be always coming up with updates to fulfill our promise to the
customer to locate the desired store.
3.8 Business Processes
3.8.1. STORE LOCATION PROCESS The purpose of this App is to locate the healthy food
outlet the customer desires. This is our promise to customers is important so the technology
needed would be mapping and GPS such as google maps so the app calculates the fastest

way to get to the destination. This will need to be done automatically within the app and
not done manually by the consumer. This offers simplicity as its best as it combines both
technology and practicality to complete this task.

3.8.2. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK PROVISI ON PROCESS- The Feed Back Provision Process connects
the CRM to the customers. The CRM process when used can benefit the business greatly if
used properly. Thus we will always have the feedback option come up every few weeks.
HUFL will need to be as its best to work effectively so all the feedback we get back will be
needed to make improvements and adjust the app. Feedback provides valuable knowledge
of the poitioning of the app which allows for convinience to the user. Negative comments
will lead to further questioning to see where improvement is needed.

3.9 Functionalities
3.9.1. USER I NPUT PROCESS

to take you there with updates to store positions
3.9.2. CUSTOMER SATISFATION FULFI LLMENT PROCESS

3.10 Systems

3.10. 1. DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM This system is accessed by administrators and by
the app itself. It contains the accounts and data of all the users along with the specifications
of the individual users favorite shop. This allows the app to locate the users favorites
efficiently. Along with user based management, all registered food outlets co-ordinates will
be saved for faster processing.
3.10. 2. GLOBAL POSI TI ONING SYSTEM HUFL uses Global positioning systems to locate the
device in order to effectively find the nearest healthy food outlet or outlet desired by the
user. This is done by partners like google or built in maps. Based on the location of the store
and the device itself the app will calculate the distance and map the fastest route there.
3.10. 3. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK SYSTEM - It is crucial to find out what the consumers think of
our product or else we will not be able to offer improvements. Due to the large amounts of
other apps out there it will be hard to create a unique app if this was not done properly. This
will insure what we will get an insight into what customers are desireing and when.
