2 THE PROBLEM WITH YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT INTRODUCTION New Zealand teenager unemployment rate is continues going high in recent years. According to government data, the unemployment rate for youth was 17.1% in the year to March 2013, which was 0.1 percentage points above its level a year ago, and 7.2 percentage points higher than its level five years ago. This is because employers always think teenagers usually unexperienced and lack of skills in work place. Logically the best way to address the problem is to simply the job seeking processes and provides opportunities for teenagers to gain experiences and skills. How do we achieve this? We develop a mobile app that collect information for local businesses and make it presentable to teenagers. The app also includes learning workshop, list of up to date volunteer job and temporary job. 3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision To create a leading app that help teenager look for jobs in a fast, convenient and efficient way. Supplier power: Low The huge number of free, quality mobile applications means that consumer expectations are now biased against paying for apps, even if they only cost a measly $0.99. (Dulaney, 2012) There are too many free job seeking app in the industry that make supplier extremely hard to control its costumers because consumers can easily switch to other competitors by downloading their apps. Threat of new entrants: High The barrier to entry is small, since developing a simple mobile app entails less than $100,000 investment often significantly less. (Software marketing Advisor, 2013) It is very easy for people to develop software that help teenager find jobs, as the cost is relatively low. Threat of substitutes: High There are now over 500,000 iOS apps and 300,000 Android apps available. (Software marketing Advisor, 2013) These numbers indicate that there are huge numbers of apps in the industry for every category including apps for teenagers searching jobs. There are a lot of substitute apps for teenagers to download.

4 Rivalry among existing competitors: High By the year 2010, the mobile apps industry became increasingly saturated as new competitors entered the market flooding it with numerous varieties of utilitarian as well as lifestyle apps. (The State of Mobile Apps, 2010) There are huge numbers of competitors in the industry that provide free apps including teenager job searching app that make the industry very competitive. Overall attractiveness of the industry: Starting this business can be very profitable because of low start up cost and low barriers of entry. However, it is also challenge because of high buyer power and high rivalry among existing competitors. The business can easily lose its costumers if competitors develop apps that help teenagers seek for jobs in a better way such as new features. 3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs Our costumers are teenagers that search for job and opportunities to gain experiences and work skills. Our main target groups are teenagers that currently study in or graduate from university, looking for job opportunities and seek for work experiences and skills. Our costumers need a easy way to find jobs and opportunities to gain experiences and skills in work place. They need to read up-to-date job descriptions and salaries and contact information of hiring manager and the company. They need to know the location of workplace. They need to find job with specific requirements such as job position and salary limits. 3.4 The Product and Service

5 Our app offer a fast, convenient and efficient way to find jobs with powerful searching feature that filter searches by miles, date, relevance, full/part-time, contract, internship or temporary and search by locations. We also present up-to-date full information about the company, working condition and rating from other employees that help teenagers to analyse the work. We have learning workshop feature that help teenagers to learn skills via the app. We provide built-in geolocation technology that allows teenagers to see the location of work place on the map. This technology also help you find out what jobs are available around you and send yourself an email with a link to the job description and apply for the job right from the app. 3.5 Suppliers and Partners Suppliers: App Developer they supply well-designed app that equipped with full features we want e.g. Blurgroup and Moacreative (app developers). Jobs Databases they supply up-to-date job information and contact details e.g. Careers New Zealand Job Database (government organization provides job information). Partners: App stores such as Apple Store and Google play that will enable users to download our app. App Developer to keep our app up to date, user-friendly and attractive e.g. Blurgroup and Moacreative (app developers). Maps provider such as Apple map and Google map that allow users to access job location information and shown directly on the map. 3.6 Strategy: Focused Low Cost We choose to focus on low cost strategy because many of our competitors provide free similar app that is extremely competitive. Our market is very narrow because we focus on

6 providing job search app for teenagers. Many features in our app are specially designed for teenagers to gain work skills and experiences such as online learning workshop. The overall strategy is therefore Focused Low Cost. 3.7 Value Chain Activity: Market and sell the product The most important value chain activity for this business is Market and sell the product. It is important to attract a large number of teenagers to use our app in order to make the app more efficient and responsive to teenagers needs. Refer to our vision statement, the goal of creating a leading app must be achieved when a huge number of costumers using it. Therefore, we need to market and sell the app in order to let more people know it. 3.8 Business Processes 3.8.1. INNOVATI ON PROCESS - This is a very important process for our business because we need to frequently innovate and update our app in order to gain bigger competitive advantage. The industry is competitive with a large number of competitors, consumers can easily switch to our competitors. As a result, for keeping our consumers, we must frequently add new features and innovate our app to attract new consumer, and maintain old costumers.
