8 SAP BusinessObjects Explorer and SAP NetWeaver BW

8.1 Data Connectivity

The following figure shows the possible data connections using SAP BusinessObjects Explorer.

SAP BusinessObjects Explorer is able to leverage the relational access approach using the
Universe on top of SAP NetWeaver BW InfoProvider and can create a disk based index for the
data.
SAP BusinessObjects Explorer is able to leverage the Universe and leverage data from the
SAP ERP system based on InfoSets, ABAP Queries, or ABAP Functions. This functionality
requires SAP BusinessObjects BI4 Feature Pack 03.
SAP BusinessObjects Explorer is able to establish a direct link to SAP NetWeaver BW
Accelerator (BWA) or SAP HANA and leverage the pre-created indexes from those systems
and does not have to create another disk based index for the data.
SAP BusinessObjects Explorer is also able to leverage the Universe connectivity towards SAP
HANA and leverage the information being returned and create a disk based index. Here it is
important to recognize that when using the Universe based approach for SAP BusinessObjects
Explorer on top of SAP HANA, that SAP BusinessObjects Explorer is not leveraging the pre-
built indexes from SAP HANA in this approach.
In addition SAP BusinessObjects Explorer is also able to create a disk based index on Microsoft
Excel spreadsheets. The spreadsheets can be uploaded on-demand or they can be stored as
part of the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise system.
