Nevada State College EDEL 453 - Spring 2014 Karen Powell- Instructor page 4 1. Explain which field trip you are most excited about. The field trip I would be most excited about would be the one to the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort. I have never heard of the Mormon fort and its history as the first non-native settlement, it would be awesome to see where the town Ive lived in for the past 8 years started so many years ago and how they survived in such a barren desert. I have always had dreamcatchers in my room since I was younger so going on a field trip where the students get to make one and learn the significance of them to native American culture would be so nostalgic.
2. What challenges did you run into during this assignment? The challenges I ran into during this assignment were finding good field trips for the primary grades because many of the standards for those grades are too simple to use certain field trips for. The concepts taught in many of the field trips I found were better suited for intermediate grade levels but I did my best to find ones appropriate for younger audiences that would still be engaging enough to keep them interested more than a normal lesson.
