My social justice issue is on police corruption. The rhetorical situations and their fitting responses are as follows: 1. There are a few things about police corruption that get to me and those are the increased use of and increased intensity of drug raids. I propose we legalize drugs, if raids are necessary, be less about surprise and more about containment. 2. Profiling, making arrest or harassing people based on their appearance
(both racially, and otherwise.) Hard to say a definite solution, cant monitor a cops thoughts but should be a proposal. 3. Bribes, extortion, theft.
Proposal: Define the problem, offer a solution. Too many innocent people and animals die due to the use of excessive forceful tactics in police raids. Reduce raids and reform the procedures.
argument: arguable statement, then back it up. Police are given too much power for our own good. You can see this in the militarization, excessive force, and corruption.
Police are using scare tactics, military tactics, and violence to fight nonviolent, in
My social justice issue is on police corruption. The rhetorical situations and their fitting responses I have thought of, are as follows: 1. I think the profile was a good way to bring forth police corruption in the form of extortion and bribes. My profile brought the attention to a police officers struggles with exposing corruption, which showed why it was, and still is, such a large problem. In the case of this assignment, I think I would use a position argument. I would argue that police corruption is a problem that is kept out of the public eye as much as possible, consequences are minor relative to the crimes, and little is being done to prevent or stop it. I think the use of images in the form of graphs of statistics would be a good addition, to show the frequency of the cases of these types of corruption over time, and the frequency of when police stand out against it, relative to the convictions made.
2.I could write a proposal for the problem of excessive and unnecessary raids. My audience would be to public officials and those in law enforcement committees within the government, and law enforcement officials themselves. Proposing a reform of our tactics to arrest wanted criminals, more based on containment rather than shock and
awe, and reducing or eliminating raids on non-violent offenders, and also reduce the amount of raids on the incorrect houses. My audience would be to public officials and those in law enforcement committees within the government, and law enforcement officials themselves. 3. Another situation I could address is profiling, both racial and otherwise. I think for this assignment, with this topic, I might do a position argument. My audience would be directed to police officers themselves. I would want to show how this can negatively effect younger peoples development in society, keep those who are trying to make their lives better down, and potentially allow real criminals to go free, while the innocent have their lives ruined. I think I could display this position in a power point, where I could show statistics and images to help promote my stance on the subject.
