Allen Valley Quoits League

The Rules-Revised April 2014 (amendments in bold

Quoits size Each quoit must be Maximum 9 outside diameter, Maximum 5.75 inside (hole) diameter. The top o% the pin must be *-4 in#hes above the sur%a#e o% the #lay, and +ept verti#al, and be no more than - in#h diameter above the #lay line! (Longer pins have more .give/ and are less li+ely to bend, so 0%t pins o% at least 1 in#h diameter driven into the ground and the top 4 in#hes tapered to - in#h )ill )or+ better &o'es must be +ept %ull o% #lay, pre%erably )ith a slight uphill gradient to)ards the pin to enable )ater to run o%%! 1ood #overs to be provided to +eep #lay moist and +eep rain o%% the #lay! 2lay must be +ept pliable but not )et, ie! not too hard that (uoits boun#e o%%! 3al+-ups must be level and even and in good order! scoreboard !isible b" both teams #or each $itch to be used. A line is to be mar+ed or better still a length o% )ood pla#ed 2 yards in %ront o% ea#h pin (trig line ! %la"ers ma" not ste$ o!er the tri& line'board until the quoit has landed. Anyone )ho does not abide )ith this rule %or%eits the end! 8% both players6 (uoits tou#h the pin or are at e(ual distan#e %rom the pin, it is a .no end/! 9nly the visible part o% a (uoit shall be measured, using #allipers to %ind #losest pin to (uoit measurement so long as #allipers don6t tou#h or move any #lay! Any (uoit tou#hing the )ooden surround is a .no (uoit/ and should be removed! 8% a (uoits inside edge #ompletely en#ir#les the #ylindri#al spa#e verti#ally above the top o% the pin then it is a .ringer/, unless any part o% a (uoit belo) it lies in this spa#e! 8% t)o ringers, the top (uoit s#ores 2 points! 3here the top t)o (uoits are %rom the same players, the players shall be a)arded 4 points! A topped ringer )ill be #lassed as se#ond #losest but does not s#ore, i!e! * points #annot be s#ored )hen more than one ringer is on! 8n the league, singles are played to 11 (*5 in the #irst di!ision onl") and doubles to 21! ;ingles in <9 singles #ompetition only are to be played to 10 in all rounds and the %inal on %inals day only to 21! =ames o% both sides to be dra)n %or order o% play! This applies to League and <9 ;hield mat#hes! 8n the >oubles <9 you may not s)it#h partners on#e entered in this #ompetition, i% one #annot turn up %or )hatever reason then that pair drop out! <i#+-o%% 7!*0pm or 7!00pm )hen spe#i%ied $ even i% teams are short o% players! 1ames to be started on time! 8% a player is late, then other singles and doubles games may be played until he or she turns up, e'#ept in <9 ;hield )here a player not present to play his or her game )ill lose that point but may still play subse(uent games. 2 players are essential %or doubles! 9ne point per game in singles and doubles! ;ingles to be played %irst e'#ept in the <9 ;hield, )hen doubles should be played %irst . A)ards %or the players )ith the most league singles )ins, %or )inners and runners up! Any (uoit hitting the )ood, #on#rete, grass et#! be%ore tou#hing the #lay is a .no (uoit/, to be removed %rom the #lay! ?o)ever i% a .no (uoit/ disturbs other (uoits in the #lay, they must be le%t )here they end up, (ie advantage #an be gained or lost by a .no (uoit/ =o player may play %or more than one team e'#ept %or the Landlord or Landlady )ho #an play %or any team at his@her pub@#lub! There shall be three divisions! =ormally he top t)o teams o% >ivision 2 A * )ill be promoted and the bottom 2 teams o% >ivision 1 A 2 )ill be demoted! (This may vary depending on the number o% entries ne't year ;#ore#ards are to be %illed in and E+Mailed, sent b" $hone or posted to the se#retary by the )inning team and to arrive no later than 0 days a%ter the mat#h! Bailure to get s#ore #ards in on time )ill result in a C1!00 %ine! 8n the #ase o% adverse )eather #onditions, the home team should notify the away team by 6.30pm (or 6.00pm for 7.00pm start games) at the latest. Any games #an#elled due to hay time should be #an#elled by lun#htime on the day the game is to be played! n" team cancellin& &ames #or reasons other than ha" time or ad!erse ,eather must mutuall" a&ree ,ith the o$$osin& team at least -. hours be#ore the date o# the #ixture ho,e!er bein& short o# $la"ers is not a !alid reason to cancel a &ame. /he lea&ue secretar" must be in#ormed o# an" chan&es and an" dis$ute should be brou&ht to the lea&ue secretar"0s notice at the time. n" teams not adherin& to these rules ,ill be #ined 1*2.22 and ha!e $ossible $oints deducted, Any #an#elled game must be played )ithin * )ee+s, or the #an#elling team (home team %or adverse )eather )ill be %ined C0!00! All games must be played, even late #an#elled ones -ie no #laiming points %or any #an#elled games unless spe#i%i#ally san#tioned by the se#retary@deputies (and then only )hen result@singles )ins et# )ould not matter to any team or person in the league ! Teams #an#elling * games or more )ill be re%erred to the 2ommittee %or possible removal %rom the league Any games postponed mid game due to )eather et#, then all points s#ored to that point in time to #ount and i% re-arrangement is needed then games to start %rom that point )ith the same players!
