1. The plot structure is in chronological order, consisting introduction, and suspenseful build to a climax and a happy ending.

This arrangement is effective because it leads the reader to expect one ending while in reality, concluding the ending a different way. Based on the title and the amount of time that the author spends developing Chris, the audience is inclined to think that this is the story of how she finds and marries Chris after he flies away on his plane. However, the audiences viewpoint is overturned when she decides that no letter was ever going to come and when she mentions the mailman (a Carmichael) that she saw everyday. 2. The introduction of new characters helps develop the suspense by creating a veil of mystery. The random appearance of Alice Kelling as Chriss fianc and the mystery behind where they went and what happened between them during one night makes the reader wonder who Chris decides to choose between, and how the author would deal with the consequences. The development of the relationship between Chris and the author also helps create suspense because we know that Chris likes Edie, but we dont know what he will do about it. 3. Loretta Bird and Mrs. Peebles add to the artistic unity of the story by distracting the reader from figuring out who the husband of the author really is. Lorretta Bird acts as the annoying, nosy loudmouth who always speaks her mind, and what she says provokes the readers minds as they continue to read the story. Some of her controversial quotes are Men are all the same, and Youll never know what this girls will do next. Its not they mean harm so much, as theyre ignorant. Mrs. Peebles is like the backbone for Edie. She is almost like a mother and kind of absent-mindedly cares for Edie throughout the story. It was also her dress that Edie used that first got Chriss attention and all of Edies sneaking around under Mrs. Peebles nose makes the reader think that Chris is really the one that Edie marries. 4. Edie is an independent character- shes living and working away from her own family but she doesnt have a problem with it. Normally, fifteen year old girls dont have the courage to work away from their parents in a strangers house. Her status as the hired girl makes me feel sorry for her because shes seen as low class and she accepts her status when she even refers to herself as the hired girl (when she introduces herself to Chris.) I would probably have a lower viewpoint of her if she came from a higher class and fell in love with this random pilot man because she should be educated enough to make a smarter decision.
