Coarse Screen

This document describes a pulping and coarse screening station for various types of recycled waste paper. It uses a primary pulper to begin slushing the material, then sends acceptable pulp to coarse screening while returning rejects to a secondary pulper for further processing. A clarifier and washing drum further separate rejects from usable fibers. The system aims to maximize fiber recovery through multiple pulping and screening stages while minimizing wear on equipment.

Pulper station for brown and difficult recycled waste paper grades
The raw material can contain traditional OCC (Old Corrugated Containers) and mixed waste combination. This is normally colleted from supermarkets. In addition wet strength materials, beverage containers and laminated papers or paperboards can be used. In many cases there are raw materials with good fibre available potential but the existing technology cannot utilize them. Especially slushing and reject handling have been the problem. The pulp made of this kind of raw materials will normally be used for paper making of packaging papers and boards.

This is the new advanced solution for pulping and coarse screening.

How it works? - Pulper station for brown and difficult recycled waste grades
Slushing is started in primary pulper. The consistency can be from 4 % up to 10 %. Special design of primary pulper rotor will give an effective slushing and protects the screen plate from wearing. That slushed pulp which can pass out through the screen plate will immediately be sent to coarse screening. The unslushed reject remains in the system and will be sent to the secondary pulper. This gives extended retention time

for difficult part of raw material to get disintegrated. Also the rejects of coarse screening will be taken back to pulping. This means almost 100% fibre recovery. The rejected material from primary pulper and coarse screen will be taken to secondary pulper through gravity clarifying. Clarifier controls the reject outflow and removes heavy particles from the pulp stream. Clarifier replaces the high consistency cleaners meaning better efficiency, lower investment and zero energy consumption.

In the secondary pulper the still disintegrated fibres can be recovered and the accepted pulp will be taken out through small size perforated screen plate.

How it works? Washing drum for brown and difficult recycled waste grades
Rejects from secondary pulper will be moved with a screw conveyor to the washing drum. Fibres are already disintegrated and the washing drum separates the last good fibres from the reject. Plastic and light rejects like Styrofoam flakes will be removed from the system and the last fibres are in the filtrate. The washing drum includes a sand trap meaning that the final rejects from sand cleaning can be handled. Filtrate will be cleaned with a pressure screen and small plastic flakes are removed from filtrate. The filtrate can now be used for dilutions.

How it works? Coarse screening for brown and difficult recycled waste grades
The coarse screening is utmost simple. How can this be possible? An important feature is that the secondary pulper takes care of the tasks of coarse screening. This is done by sending the rejects which cannot come through the coarse screen perforation for further pulping. Heavy rejects like stones, glass and staples will be removed through clarifier heavy reject outlet and they will not go to coarse screening at all. This means that the wearing of equipment will be minimised.

Pulper station for white recycled waste paper grades and REF
This material can be recycled paper from house hold collected waste paper ONP/OMG (Old Newsprints and Old Magazines) or from offices MOW (Mixed Office Waste). White waste paper grades with high plastic content are allowed. This line can successfully utilize also REF (Recovered Fuel). This raw material is a sorted and crushed fraction of house hold collected waste

where the biological materials have been removed. Normally this material will be burned in boiler plant. It is however known, that REF includes in many cases still from 40 % and even up to 70% good fibres usable for paper making. The pulp made of this kind of raw materials can be used for making tissue, printing and writing papers. REF fibres can be used for packaging papers and boards.

This is the new advanced solution for pulping and coarse screening.

lushing is started in primary pulper and it works continuously. The consistency can be from 4 % up to 20 % allowing mixing of bleaching or foaming chemicals if needed. Special design of primary pulper rotor will give an effective primary slushing. Then the pulp will be sent to an intergrated coarse screen. That slushed pulp which can pass out through the screen plate will

immediately be sent to fine screening. The unslushed reject remains in the system and will be sent to the secondary pulper. This gives extended retention time for difficult part of raw material to get disintegrated. Also the rejects of coarse screening will be taken back to pulping. This means 100 % fibre recovery. (Wish to compare difference between brown material pulper?) In case you have easy and clean raw materials like MOW or ONP/ONG the secondary pulper can be left out and the system will be still simpler. In the secondary pulper the still disintegrated fibres can recovered and the accepted pulp will be taken out through small size perforated screen plate.
