BOSCOSEAL TORCH ON
Torch-On Polymer Modified Bituminous Waterproofing Sheet Membranes
DESCRIPTION
Boscoseal Torch On Waterproofing Membranes are a warranted range of quality sheet membranes designed to meet the needs of the construction industry in tanking and roofing applications. Bostik Boscoseal Torch On Membranes are APP elastoplasticomeric type modified bitumen membranes formulated with meticulously selected raw materials conceived to ensure compatibility and homogeneity. The result is the provision of reinforced polymer bitumen membranes of superior quality, which will satisfy every specific necessary of waterproofing.

BOSCOSEAL MEMBRANE RANGE

Performance properties of the individual membranes are provided on page 3 of this data sheet. 1. BOSCOSEAL VENT SHEET AAP polymer bitumen membrane designed with reinforced fibreglass matting and perforated with 40mm holes to allow vapour to permeate through the deck to diffuse under multilayer membrane system. Boscoseal Vent Sheet virtually eliminates bubbles and blisters where ideally aerators will be installed allowing the escape of vapours to the atmosphere. 2. BOSCOSEAL SHEET MEMBRANES 3mm and 4mm bitumen modified polymer elastoplastomeric torch on membranes reinforced with non-woven polyester. Developed for single or multi layer tanking applications. They can be installed in horizontal or vertical applications. They maintain their characteristics of elasticity and performance even at low ambient temperatures. 3. BOSCOSEAL MINERAL FINISH MEMBRANE Mineral Finish is a 4.5gm modified bitumen membrane with a mineral slate exposed finish. Designed for maintenance traffic areas or where direct UV light is present or aesthetic values of finish are paramount.

USES
Residential, commercial and civil construction applications for: Basements Retaining walls Pits Flat and low angle roofing Tunnels Balconies and terraces Rehabilitation of previous membrane areas Trafficable areas requiring heavy duty waterproofing

All internal/external corners should be rounded. It is recommended that sand/cement fillets be provided at all internal vertical and horizontal plane directional change corners. Any timber sheeting substrates such as plywood, should be 17.5mm and fixed with 3mm gaps. Timber shall be screw fixed, staples and nails are not acceptable fixing systems. 50mm timber triangular fillets shall be provided, screw fixed at all corners. To reduce external corner wear, all edges shall be rounded off and smooth. All outlet holes should be drilled through timber decks, box gutters and any other pipe services or penetrations installed before membrane is laid. PRIMING A uniform coat of Bostik 9222 or 9225 solvent-based bituminous primer shall be applied to all surfaces to ensure a good, linking bond between the membrane and the prepared surface. Allow primer to dry before introduction of the membrane layer. APPLICATION The installation of Bostik Boscoseal Torch On membranes should be carried out by professional, applicators of waterproofing membranes. Installation shall be strictly in accordance with the manufacturers written instructions. The Bostik Technical Division must approve any modification or variances with these specifications in writing. Commencement of membrane installation shall be taken as acceptance of the substrate suitability and preparation by the applicator. Boscoseal Torch On membranes can be installed in various combinations to meet most waterproofing specification requirements. The membranes can be installed loose laid, partially adhered or fully bonded as required by the specification or the contractor. It should be noted that this refers to only the first layer of a multi layer system and that all subsequent layers should be installed fully adhered to the previous layer. All single layer system applications must be fully adhered to the substrate. Lap joins shall be sealed by torch. All over lapping joins should be formed to shed water. Side by side overlap joins should be 15cm (150mm). Roll end overlap joins should be 10cm (100mm). In structures where expansion and control joints are evident, provision in the membrane installation over these joints must be incorporated to allow for the movement anticipated in the structural design. All mineral finish membrane applications where laps occur over the slate finish must have the slate topping removed to a width of 75mm to allow the over lap to be fully bonded to the bitumen. MEMBRANE TESTING AND REPAIR The membrane must be thoroughly inspected to ensure there are no punctures or tears. It is recommended that a water test, where ever

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
SURFACE PREPARATION Areas where membranes are to be installed must be properly prepared. All surfaces must be free of slurry, laitance and loose foreign materials, sharp edges, clean of oils, grease or other surface contamination such as curing compounds and coatings which may result in adhesion loss. The bonding surface shall be dry, smooth and appropriate falls provided to ensure that water runs towards the drains. All roof drains should be in sufficient number and size to provide for rapid drainage of surface water and so no surface ponding will occur.

possible, be carried out over a 24-hour period. All leaks should be marked and the membranes repaired when cleaned and dry. Any damaged areas must be repaired with a patch of Boscoseal Torch On with a minimum overlap of 75mmfrom any edge. PROTECTION The membranes should be protected as soon as possible after installation from damage. A protective board such as water resistant particle board, plywood, fibre-cement or any other proprietary protective board must be used to protect from backfiling, steel reinforcement, trade traffic, other construction materials and equipment. The protective boards should be adhered with Bostik 5326 protective board tape. Weather resistant flashing or pressure seal must be used to cover any portion of membrane left exposed, such as upstands, parapets and top of foundation walls.

membrane rolls must be laid flat (e.g. short transport carry) do not place heavy articles on top. Other rolls of membrane must be laid offset to the under layer to help eliminate flattening of the under rolls.

PRECAUTION
Do not over heat. Do not install on wet or damp surfaces. All new concrete must be cured for at least 28 days. Not recommended in fully immersed applications. Appropriate fire safety precautions must be applied on site. Not compatible with tar, tar PUs or polysulphides.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

On contact, membrane or primers may cause irritation. Gloves and protective goggles must be worn during application and use. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and avoid breathing in vapour. Wear protective gloves when mixing or using. If skin contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly for a minimum of 15 minutes. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Give a glass of water. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor. For more detailed information refer to Material Safety Data Sheet.

CLEAN-UP
For general cleaning use Bostik 9907 Cleaner. Do not use solvents on skin. For removal on skin use Bostik Handi-Clean Towels.
