SC PETROLEUM ENGINEERING IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON In July 2014, I will be graduated cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Bandung, Indonesia. I am now looking forward to continuing my study in the M.Sc. Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College London. I would like to continue my final bachelor research on enhanced oil recovery which has the same interest focus with Professor Ann Muggeridge as chair in Petroleum Engineering Imperial College London. Besides, This program has larger support from industry for research than any other comparable departments in the UK. While I am doing final project about foam-CO2 injection which is the one of methods for enhanced oil recovery by improving sweep efficiency in reservoir, I am also joining with Oil and Gas Recovery for Indonesia (OGRINDO) Research Consortium as a research assistant and doing research on foam-CO2 injection and CBM (Coal Bed Methane). Furthermore, I am also involved in scientific paper writing project with doctoral student about lifting extra heavy oil with heating process by nano-technology and electromagnetism principle through mathematic equation combined with knowledge and concepts in petroleum. In 2013, I was the winner of PETROVIRO held by Lundin Petroleum (essay competition about mitigation of petroleum industrys development to the environment). I designed the drilling job which worked with team consists of students from other background such as environment engineering and geology to make developing plan for the company. In the middle of 2013, I was recruited as assistant of numerical method laboratory for about half-year and assistant of reservoir fluids laboratory for the next period to demonstrate, compute, and experiment tools and software to the members of practicum. In my college life, I do not only study courses all the time but also join several professional and social organizations. The soft skills like managing and emphasizing people to do job in the particular area are really needed to ensure that program goes well. Therefore, I could practice myself to balance both academic and organizational study at the same time. For example, I am joining in Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE) ITB Student Chapter on Information Technology Department to arrange and handle information, publish energys magazine and allocate events schedules over the period. Besides, I contributed in sport and arts competition as head of publication and documentation division. In there, I was also doing my hobby like playing both of football and instrumental music to balance my interest. By joining the M.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College, I intend to deepen my understanding of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods and improve my knowledge, creativity and problem-solving skills. From the research perspective, I am deeply interested in the work of Imperial College researchers on Petroleum Engineering and Rock Mechanics Group (PERM) especially on pore scale modelling and fluid characterization which explore about multicomponent flow (CO2/EOR/Heavy Oil) and define network models as practical reservoir description and simulation tools to study two and three-phase displacement processes. I would like to develop a research project on improving oil recovery. Actually, Professor Ann Muggeridge has interest research which uses combination of experimental, mathematical and numerical approaches and it becomes solutions in many industry problems such as heavy oil recovery, enhanced/improved recovery, etc. This ongoing research has the similar focus with my current final project and my international paper project on enhanced oil recovery (EOR). My decision to focus on enhanced oil recovery as a taugh student and to explore research has equipped me with a unique set of strengths to offer this program. Therefore, In petroleum engineering Imperial College London, I highly believe that I can continue my study to the higher level of achievement to find many ways succeed the need of energy in the future.
