Product Information: For The Detection of C Arbon D Ioxide

The TGS-4160 is a compact carbon dioxide sensor that uses a solid electrolyte sensing element and thermistor to detect CO2 concentrations between 350-30,000ppm. It has high selectivity for CO2, is not greatly affected by humidity, and has a long lifespan. The sensor exhibits stable, linear responses to changes in CO2 levels over time and is well-suited for applications like air quality control, fermentation process monitoring, and CO2 monitoring.

T he T G S 4160 is a hybrid s ens or unit compos ed of a carbon dioxide s ens itive element and a thermis tor. A wide range of 350~30,000ppm of carbon dioxide can be detected by T G S 4160, making it ideal for usage in a variety of applications. T he C O 2 s ens itive element cons is ts of a s olid electrolyte formed between two electrodes , together with a printed heater (P t) s ubs trate. B y monitoring the change in electromotive force (E MF ) generated between the two electrodes , it is pos s ible to meas ure C O 2 gas concentration. Ads orbent (zeolite) is filled between the internal cover and the outer cover for the purpos e of reducing the influence of interference gas es . T G S 4160 exhibits a linear relationship between E MF and C O 2 gas concentration on a logarithmic s cale. T he s ens or dis plays good long term s tability and s hows excellent durability agains t the effects of high humidity. T he figure below repres ents typical s ens itivity characteris tics of T G S 4160. T he Y -axis is indicated as E MF which is defined as follows : E MF =E MF 1 - E MF 2 T he figure below s hows typical humidity dependency for an energized s ens or. Again, the Y -axis is indicated as E MF which is defined as follows : E MF =E MF 1 - E MF 2

B asic M easuring C ircuit:

T he T G S 4160 s ens or requires heater voltage (V H ) input. T he heater voltage is applied to the integrated heater in order to maintain the s ens ing element at a s pecific temperature which is optimal for s ens ing. E lectromotive force (E MF ) of the s ens or s hould be meas ured us ing a high impedance (> 100 G ) operational amplifier with bias current < 1pA (e.g. T exas Ins truments ' model #T LC 271). S ince the s olid electrolyte type s ens or

functions as a kind of battery, the E MF value its elf would drift us ing this bas ic measuring circuit. However, the change of E MF value ( E MF ) s hows a s table relations hip with the change of C O 2 concentration. T herefore, in order to obtain an accurate meas urement of C O 2, a special microprocessor for signal proc e s s ing s hould be us e d with T G S 4160. F igaro can provide a s pecial evaluation s ens or module (AM-4) for T G S 4160.
