First of all, I feel very grateful because I can complete my Technology in Teaching and Learning (EDU3105) assignment on time given. For this assignment, I need to produce a video and a web-based learning package. As a trainee teacher, it is necessary for me to learn how to produce a video and web-based learning package to enhance my teaching skills in school. The processes taken to complete this assignment need a long time for me because I never have any experience produce video or web-based learning package. Through the assignment, this is my first video that I have produced by myself. I feel very excited because I cannot believe that I can produce video using software that I have learned in Technology in Teaching and Learning course.
Before I started the assignment, my lecturer, Encik Omar bin Zakaria teaches us about how to use the suitable software to produce a video and produce web-based learning package. I feel very lucky study with Encik Omar because he teaches me how to master the software that is needed to make video and web-based learning package. The software that I learn from Encik Omar to produce video is VideoPad and Learning Content Development System (LCDS) is to produce a web-based learning package. Encik Omar makes sure that every student in his classroom master both of software VideoPad and LCDS and knows how to use the software well. I feel so thank to Encik Omar because he gives us a precious knowledge and guidance before, while and after done this assignment.
There are strengths and weaknesses that I have identified in the processes to complete the assignment. In this assignment, I have to produce a video based on a theme: INTEGRITY. Before I started my video, I make a plan about what should I put in my video. I think I have a good idea about how to produce a good video based on integrity; unfortunately, I do not have a good computer skills compare to my friends. So, I have lack of confidence to produce a good video. Besides, I also have a problem with the time of assignment given. I have to do this assignment during Hari Raya weeks. As a result, it is very hard for me to find time to finish this assignment at home and I only have time to do this assignment at the hostel. Another problem is I also have to finish and submit other assignments in the same week, so, I cannot give one
hundred percent attention and focus on this assignment. Furthermore, I also have to produce a web-based learning package using the appropriate software. As a trainee teacher, I feel very lucky because this task can help me to think creatively in prepare a lesson using technology. Contents for the package should be suitable for a learning a topic or part of a topic within the syllabus of a subject taught in a primary school. So, I can train myself to be familiar with the syllabus of a subject taught in a primary school.
Moreover, before I start making the video, I watch some simple videos in Youtube and search some examples of videos in some blogs. I learn a lot how to make a good video which must contain introduction, montage, content and credit. From some videos that I watch also I learn that how to suit suitable music background with the scene. After that, I plan what I want to do in my video based on theme of integrity. For my video, I ask my friend to help me to act in my video. At the first time, I have a problem to ask their help because they are too busy with their assignment. After have a discussion with them, they agree to act in my video with sincere heart. I also face problem to record the video because I do not have camera. As a result, I need to pay one of my friends to record the video by using his camera. I feel so thanks to all my friends that involve in acting and record in my video because they give a good cooperation with me. After finish the recording, I start to produce a video from the scenes that have recorded. It takes two hours for me to produce the short film. Next, I find some pictures about integrity and make a slideshow in a video. For the final video, I combine all the videos that I have edited to be a video. After I satisfy with the video, I focus on LCDS to produce a web-based learning package. For my web-based learning package, I focus on Year 4 and the topic is I love nature. I take the topic in the scheme of work English Year 4. My web-based learning package is focus on teach pupil to understand simple and compound sentences as written in the scheme of work English Year 4 on topic 11. I have learned a lot about using the LCDS after finish the package. It is very good because it can enhance our pupils to focus on our lesson and attract their attention to learn something.
There are some problems that I face during do this assignment. Firstly, I have a problem with how to edit the video that I have recorded. At first, I feel very stress with the problem. I try to recall what Encik Omar taught me in the class to overcome this problem. I feel very happy after I success to recall what Encik Omar have taught. My efforts bring laptop for every class and focus on Encik Omars lecture to learn how to make video is meaningful at last. Secondly, the problem I face while making video is I take a long time to explore how to use the software. The software that I have learned to use is VideoPad. Although I have learned how to use the VideoPad before, my poor computer skill makes me so slow to finish the video. I try to improve my skill using the software by watching some skills in the Youtube and search in the internet how to use the software. Furthermore, I also have a problem with the software I have used which is VideoPad. This is because some of my friends use other software. So, I confuse what are the best and the easiest software that I should use to make this video for the assignment. Finally, I have decided to use VideoPad because I have learned how to use it before with Encik Omar.
During do the web-based learning package I also face some problems. One of the problems is I never have any experience to do the web-based learning package. At first, I try to make a simple web-based learning package using the LCDS according to what my lovely lecturer, Encik Omar have taught me. The result is not good because I think my web-based learning package is very simple and not suitable enough for primary school pupils. I try to look for some examples of web-based learning package of my friends to overcome this problem. After that, I try to improve my learning package until I satisfy and suitable for pupils in primary school. Another problem is I do not have enough time to make the web-based learning package well. This is because I have spent a lot of my time to complete the video. I hope I can do a better learning package when I am a teacher in the future.
After I finish this coursework I have learned a lot of about use teaching media. The experience of completing this coursework gives me better understanding in producing teaching and learning media. At the end of this coursework, I can produce a video for learning and a web-based learning package. In the future, it is very useful for me because I can use teaching media effectively and I can produce a variety of teaching media that is appropriate for subject contents. As a trainee teacher, I believe that using teaching media in the classroom can attract the pupils to learn happily and focus on the topic taught. This is because learning using media is away from boredom. I learn how to apply some technical skills by using a variety of media in teaching learning process. So, my lesson in the classroom will be fun. Through this assignment also I can integrate information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching and learning. It is something new and meaningful for me.
In a nut shell, after do this assignment I believed that the uses of technology is important for education and in the classroom. Technology also changes the way teachers teach, offering educators effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means. It also enhances the relationship between teacher and student. When technology is effectively integrated into subject areas, teachers grow into roles of adviser, content expert, and coach. Technology helps make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun.
