F. E. Part - II
Subject: Engineering Graphics
Assignment No. 1
1. Construct an ellipse when the major axis is 120 mm and the distance between the foci is 108 mm. Determine the length of the minor axis. 2. A fixed point F is 75 mm from a fixed straight line. Draw the locus of point P moving in such way that its distance from the fixed straight line is equal to its distance from fixed point F. Name the curve. Draw the normal and tangent at a point 60 mm from F. 3. On a cricket ground the ball thrown by fielder reaches wicket keeper following parabolic path. Maximum height achieved by the ball above the ground is 30 m. Assuming the point of throw and the point of catch to be 1 m above the ground, draw the path of the ball. The distance between fielder and wicket keeper is 70 m. 4. Draw the hyperbola with the distance between its focus & directrix equal to 75 mm and eccentricity equal to 3/2. Draw normal and tangent to the curve at a point p on the curve 65 mm from the focus. 5. A semicircle of 56 mm diameter has a straight line AB of 80 mm length tangent to it at the end point A of its diameter AC. Draw the paths of the end points A & B of the straight line AB. When AB rolls on semicircle without slipping. 6. A circle of 40 mm diameter rolls on a horizontal line. Draw the curve traced out by a point R on the circumference for one half revolution of the circle, for the remaining half revolution the circle rolls on the vertical line. The point R is vertically above the centre of circle in the starting position. Date of submission: 28/01/2014 (F.E. - A & B Division)

Assignment No. 3 1. A hexagonal pyramid of 35 mm side of the base and 70 mm height of axis having a corner of its base in HRP. The axis makes 400 with HRP. The plane containing the axis and the corner of base on HRP is perpendicular to HRP and inclined at 450 to FRP. Draw the projection of the pyramid when the apex is away from the observer. 2. A cone base diameter 70 mm and height 70mm is resting on HP on a point of base circle is tilted towards observer such that its axis makes 400 to FRP and parallel to PRP. Draw its projections. 3. Cube of 50 mm side is resting on the ground having vertical faces equally inclined to FRP. It is cut by sectional plane perpendicular to FRP in such a way that true shape of the section is regular hexagon. Find the inclination of the section plane with HRP. Draw its FV, sectional TV, true shape of the section. 4. A square pyramid (side of base 80 mm and axis 80 mm long) is kept on the HRP on one of its triangular faces with the axis parallel to FRP. It is cut by an AIP intersecting the slant edge which is not on HRP and at a point 90 mm from the apex. The true shape of the section is a trapezium with one of the parallel side 20 mm long. Draw the elevation, sectional plan and true shape of the section. Find the inclination of the section plane with HRP.

Assignment No. 4 1. The development of lateral surface of a cone is semicircle of 120 mm diameter. Inscribe the largest possible regular hexagon in the semicircle, so that one of the corners of the hexagon coincides with the center of semicircle. Draw the projections of the solid when it rests on its base on the HP, and transfers the inscribed hexagon in FV and TV. 2. A square pyramid of base edges 40 mm long is placed on its base on HP, such that all base edges are equally inclined to the VP. The height of the pyramid is 75mm. A circular hole of diameter 25 mm is punched vertically, such that the axis of pyramid and hole coincide. Draw the elevation and plan of the solid and draw the development of the lateral surface of the pyramid. 3. A model of step has three steps 10 mm tread and 10 mm rise. The length of steps is 60 mm. The model is placed with the vertical edge of the first step touching the PP and its longer edge inclined at 300 to PP. The station point is 70 mm infront of PP, 55 mm above the ground plane and lies in the central plane which is at 30 mm to the right of the vertical edge touching the PP. Draw the perspective view.
