Tank Nozzle Allowable As Per API 650

Caesar II is used to calculate the radial force, longitudinal moment, and circumferential moment axis limits for tank nozzles according to API 650. These values are compared to the allowable limits using nomograms from Appendix P-3A and P-3B to determine if the nozzle loads are acceptable. The nozzle loads from the Caesar II restraint report must be plotted on appropriately labeled figures using the axis limits, and if the plotted load falls inside the figures, then the nozzle design meets the allowable limits.

Nozzle Data Input in Caesar II

Calculation done by Caesar II

How CAESAR II calculates Radial Force AXIS Limit, Longitudinal Moment AXIS Limit, and Circumferential Moment AXIS Limit? Is the AXIS Limit is calculated ! the following method? From Figure P-3A Construction of Nomograms
( / 2YF) (FR /FP)= ( /aYL) (ML /FP) = 0.1 or 1.0 ! 0."# X A / (R t) 0.#$% &'ic'e(er is greater ( / 2YF) (F) /FP)= ( /aYL) (ML /FP) =0.1 or 1.0 ! 0."# X * / (R t) 0.#$% &'ic'e(er is greater

From Figure P-3* Construction of Nomograms

( / 2YF) (F) /FP) = ( /aYC ) (MC /FP) = 0.1 or 1.0 ! 0."# X C / (R t ) 0.# $% &'ic'e(er is greater

How do we chec" weather the no##les loads are within allowa le limit or not?

Yes the nozzle values are computed as described in your document. However, these values are the axis limits on the figures (the diamond and the triangle) in Appendix . !o "ualify your nozzle, you must draw these figures, appropriately labled, and then plot the loads from the CAESAR II restraint report. #f the location of the plotted load is inside the figures, then the nozzle is acceptable according to A #$%&'. #f the location of the plotted load is outside either the figure, the nozzle is not acceptable.
