Universies are at strategic posion to address the issue of developing the capacity and conduct of problem solving studies. Taking this into consideraon JU has strived not only on research acvity but also on the transferring the result to the community through: Organizaon of annual naonal research conferences Publicaon of research results Establishment of core research laboratories that enable basic and advanced research, training and also provide various tesng or experimental services. The laboratories are Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Laboratory of Mycobacteriology and Laboratory of Drug Quality Control

Developmental Team Training (DTTP): where health, technological, agricultural, and social services are provided as part of educaon philosophy.

Environmental protecon: JU is acvely engaged in the safeguarding and rehabilitaon of land and other natural resources in the surrounding.

ICT service: JU has one of the best quality and high standard ICT services compared to other public universies in Ethiopia with 165MB bandwidth capacity. Beyond developing its own capacity the JU ICT oce provides services to other public universies in the country.

JIMMA UNIVERSITY: THE NATIONAL PIONEER IN COMMUNITY BASED EDUCATION OF HIGHER LEARNING

Jimma University (JU) is a public higher educaonal instuon established in December 1999 by the amalgamaon of Jimma College of Agriculture (founded in 1952) and Jimma Instute of Health Sciences (established in 1983). Jimma University is located 352 km Southwest of Addis Ababa at Jimma town with an area of 409 hectares. It has four campuses, namely Jimma University main campus, Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, College of Business and Economics and Kito Furdisa (Jimma University Instute of Technology) and the h Campus called Agaro campus is under construcon 45 Km away from Jimma. Colleges like Public Health and Medical Sciences, Social Sciences and Law, Natural sciences and Instute of Educaon and Professional Development Studies is located in the main campus. also situated in the main Campus. Currently the University enrolls more than 43,000 students in y four under graduate and 102 post graduate programs in various disciplines. It employs 1350 academic, 2100 administrave and 270 health professional sta members exerng their eorts to realizing its mission.
