Two Textbooks: Pearson Custom Program for CQS 311, Pearson Publishing, 2012, 2013. ISBN 13: 978-1-256-60229-3 o This will be used in the lab sections A01 through A10 and lecture section A0. Microsoft Project 2010 Step by Step, Carl Chatfield, Timothy Johnson. ISBN: 978-0735626959 o This will be used only in lecture section A0. On-line Course Materials: Pearson MyITLab: http://blackboard.binghamton.edu/ http://www.myitlab.com/ - Access code purchase is required

Important notes on MyITLab: The MyITLab client component is only installed in the AA PODS (as far as I know) so please plan accordingly. You can install MyITLab on your own hardware as long as it is supported (see myitlab site). All MyITLab issues should go to MyITLab support found at the myitlab site do not contact instructors or ITS Help Desk with MyITLab technical issues. Textbook/MyITLab purchase information: The bookstore has two Pearson packages/options. The slightly higher cost option contains a Microsoft Office 180 day software license. Both packages contain the two textbooks and MyITLab access code. You can buy the access code separately online if you purchase used books; you can also buy the access code with the two e-textbooks that are combined into the custom Pearson textbook. Separate instructions will be put on Blackboard on this process and the Course ID. You do not need MyITLab access the first week of class, but there will be a MyITLab assignment given the second week of class, so you need to purchase access by then. Prerequisite: CQS 111 ** Important** If you did not take CQS 111 or the equivalent, you need to make sure you have or quickly acquire basic Excel skills covered in that course. This course covers advanced Excel topics. Co-requisites: OPM 311 and MIS 311 Objective: To learn to use important computational tools that organizations use in operational and decision making activities. We will learn to use three Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Access, Projects). At the end of the semester, students should be able to use these tools on their own to collect, organize, analyze, and present information in a useful manner. This course is the integrated lab for S-Core to support OPM 311 and MIS 311. Page |1

Class format: The lab sections will be held in a computer laboratory environment (PODS) where students have access to Microsoft Office. The instructor will go over the relevant topics in class and students will be able to follow the activities on the laboratory computers. Students will be responsible for completing a set of exercises, assigned as individual homework assignments, at the end of each topic. The lecture section will cover related materials; use of laptop computers is optional, but may be beneficial. Semester Evaluations (grading policy) Grade Components Assignments (homework) Two Quizzes (each will be 5%) Three Exams (each exam will be 15%) Attendance/Participation Total points Percentage 35 10 45 10 100

Assignments: All assignments are individual assignments. MyITLab assignments will be posted (if assigned that week) on Wednesday by 8:00 am and will be due the following Wednesday at 8:00 am for all sections. All assignments must be turned in by the due date/time (no exceptions). There is no late submission late assignments receive a 0 score. The purpose of assignments is to ensure that students can use the tools effectively and understand the associated concepts. Therefore, it is very important that students do their own work (see below on academic honesty). Even if you discuss with other students make sure that finally you do your own work when completing assignments. Assessment: The knowledge you gain while doing assignments will be tested by means of three exams and two quizzes (see schedule below) where you have to do your own work in a limited time period. The three exams will be hands-on MS Excel or Access work and will be open book; the two quizzes will be a series of questions (multiple choice, true/false, etc.) and will be closed book. Attendance: It is essential that students attend class. Based on past observations, students who regularly attend class performed well in the semester, which resulted in better grades. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to obtain materials from your classmates. While Blackboard will be used as a communication and classroom tool, students are responsible for announcements and assignments made in class. Class attendance/participation points will focus on attendance, being prepared for class with any requirements completed (and available for checking in class), textbook being available for lab class work, and your participation in working along with your instructor as we go through material. Policy on Academic Honesty - Please reference the BU School of Management policy at http://www2.binghamton.edu/som/pdf/SOMAcademicHonestyJune2010.pdf Initial academically dishonest behavior will result in a zero grade for the activity and a warning regarding the future consequences if the practice is continued. If the student or students continue the practice of copying, the student(s) will be reported to the relevant administrative bodies in the university. Students are responsible for protecting their own work and if identical work is identified as copies both parties will receive zero for the activity. Useful hints regarding assignments: Read the basic concepts in each chapter before coming to class. Start work on assignments early enough so you have time to seek assistance/clarification if needed. Keep your work in a safe place and make frequent backups; system failure is NOT an acceptable excuse for missing assignments. Note the PODS version of software will be acceptable for assignments; lack of a personal Page |2

(owned by you) computer supporting required specifications is NOT an acceptable excuse for missing assignments. Any MyITLab issues with non-PODS PCs is not an excuse for non-completion or lateness.
