Application Form 2014

School of Media Studies FINE CUTS: 35th Annual Invitational Film Show

2014 Application Form


This year FINE CUTS and the Invitational Film Show have combined forces to create a single event that celebrates outstanding work by New School student filmmakers. Selection is made through a twostage process involving first internal judging and then an external panel of judges. A final selection of 8 to 10 works will be screened on Friday, April 25. An awards ceremony will follow. Please fill out this form and submit to [email protected] with the header Application Form FINE CUTS 2014. This email should also provide a link to the students Vimeo account where his/her work can be downloaded. Eligibility requirements for submission are listed below.

Please note that eligible submissions for this show should have been conceived and executed in classes offered through the School of Media Studies. These include both undergraduate and graduate certificate programs in film and documentary, as well as courses in both the Media Studies MA program and a number of film production classes offered through the School of Undergraduate Studies (SUS). Eligible students are invited to submit one film for consideration. This film should have been completed between spring 2013 and spring 2014. Alumni are welcome to submit work completed in this time frame. The film cannot exceed 20 minutes in length. Each entry must include the end credit Made in Cooperation with The New School. Works made outside the parameters listed above, which exceed the time limit, or do not include all necessary information (see below), will be disqualified. Your application package should include: (a) the Application form, (b) an attachment with a short filmmaker!s bio and a brief description of your submission(s) which will be used in the program catalog if your work is selected, and (c) a copy of your work uploaded to a Vimeo account and made downloadable for viewing. Students whose work makes it to the second round of judging will be asked to submit a ProRes copy of their work saved onto a DVD or USB stick. Finalists will be notified in early April. Invited works will be screened from a hi-res digital file or, if available, from a 16mm film print.
