Guide FDB-101 081029

This document provides instructions for using a transformer demo box to simulate and identify various faults using frequency response analysis (FRA). Key steps include connecting the demo box to FRAX software, performing baseline measurements on the high voltage and low voltage windings, and then introducing various faults like shorted turns, lost turns, damaged core, and shifted windings to analyze the impact on FRA responses. The document also outlines how to optimize test settings and interpret FRA data to identify faults based on frequency shifts and changes in magnitude.

Analysis (Power Transformer)

Frequency shifts (also small shifts) indicates electrical or mechanical changes Difference in magnitude < 3 dB is normally not of interest

Frequency range Typical deviation

Low frequencies Core, magnetic circuit

Mid frequencies Windings - relative movements and deformations (especially radial)

High frequencies Small parts, axial deformations in single windings

Resonance frequencies are much higher Differences in magnitude are smaller

OPTIMIZING TEST
If you want a faster test procedure with acceptable resolution, limit the low frequency to 200 Hz and use the following settings: Band 1: 200 2 kHz, 40 P/D Band 2: 2 kHz 1e7 Hz, 80 P/D By optimizing your test, the test time will decrease from 100 seconds to just 20 seconds per sweep.

Template for PAX Transformer Demo Box

Here you have three possibilities: 1. Some foresighted individual has provided a sweep group for PAX Transformer Demo Box. 2. You can define a new sweep group and sweeps, using the Add buttons. 3. You can choose the Quick Test tab and add additional sweeps as you are performing measurements. 4. You can use an existing file as template for sweep definitions.
