b. Observations: She has an excess intake of fat, especially saturated fat. As well as an excess of sodium, with 2 days going over 2300mg, the old recommendation, but all 3 days going over the recommendation of 1800mg. 4. Appropriate Recommendations for improvement a. Her concernHigh Blood Pressure i. Her original concern was the possibility of high blood pressure. High blood pressure can be controlled by diet, especially from the intake of sodium. I would recommend for her to reduce the amount of sodium in her diet to no more than

2 grams a day. But first slowly reduce the amount of sodium in her diet, by trying to make replacements here and there. 1. Chose low sodium lunch meats, salad dressings, seasonings, and breads. 2. Try avoiding adding salt for taste. Make sure to taste food first before adding salt, this will help limit additional salt/sodium. ii. Adding more fruits to her diet. Potassium containing fruits can help reduce/maintain blood pressure. She does not consume the recommended amount of fruit. This could help her diet overall. 1. Try fruit as a snack instead of a chocolate bar or ice-cream. Or, if icecream isnt an option to remove from the diet, add fruit to cereal or yogurt in the morning, such as a sliced up banana. iii. Excessive Fat intake 1. She consumes a lot of fat, most days more than 30% of her calories come from fat, and a lot of it is saturated fat. This also affects blood pressure. Limit saturated fat intake to 20grams per day. a. Try skim milk instead of 2% b. Use fat free dressings or oils for salads 5. Educational Materials a.
