Triangle Trigonometry Test

This document provides an overview of right triangle trigonometry presented by Dymund Lanier. It defines trigonometry and its key ratios of sine, cosine, and tangent. It describes the special 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 right triangles and how trigonometric ratios can be used to solve for missing angles and sides. Real-world applications of trigonometry in engineering are discussed. In creating the project, Dymund made posters, presentations, and poems to enhance their understanding of right triangle trigonometry.

This project is about Triangle Trigonometry and the different types of right triangles along with the many different ratios that help you define the sides and angles of these triangles. In the process of doing this project I have made, posters PowerPoint's, and even poems to further my understanding of triangle trigonometry and how it can relate to everyday life. Of the many things I learned here is the basic breakdown of the whole project. The first question would be what is trigonometry? Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics that studies triangles and the relationship between the lengths of their sides and the angles between those sides. Then of course you would want to know how do you find those relationships? You find those relationships with Trigonometric ratios, which are ratios that describe relationships between a side and an angle of a triangle. The most common ratios are the Tangent ratio that states from the angle of perspective in a right triangle Tan(X) = the opposite leg over the adjacent leg. The second ratio would be that of Sine , which states that from the angle of perspective in a right triangle Sin(X)= the opposite leg over the hypotenuse. The third most common ratio is Cosine which says from the angle of perspective in a right triangle Cos(X)= the Adjacent leg over the hypotenuse. Trigonometric ratios can also be inverted. These are called Inverse trigonometric ratios. The ratios help find a missing angle in a right angled triangle if two sides are known. These however are done by calculator and the signs are relatively similar except they have an exponent of -1. So they would look like this : Sin-1 - the inverse of Sine Cos-1 - the inverse of Cosine Tan-1 -the inverse of Tangent Now that I've went over the ratios and their inverses maybe we should talk about the most important part of trigonometry. THE TRIANGLES ! DUH!. In trigonometry you have what they call special triangles. There are two that will always pop up when considering the ratios of a triangle. These two triangles are 45 degree-45 degree- and 90 degree triangle and the 30 degree- 60 degree- 90 degree triangle. The 45-45-90 triangle says that the legs of the triangle are congruent and the length of the hypotenuse is radical 2 or the square root of two times the length of the leg. The 30-60-90 triangle is different. The hypotenuse is twice as long as the shorter leg and the longer leg is radical 3 times as long as the shorter leg. The legs and the hypotenuse of a triangle give you hints as to which triangle you are dealing with. The last but certainly not the least of Right Triangle Trigonometry ratios is the Pythagorean Theorem. This theorem states that a2 +b2 = c2 . This theorem also helps you find missing legs if you have been given the hypotenuse.

Here are some examples of triangle ratios Sine , Cosine and Tangent as well as what 4545-90 and 30-60-90 triangles look like being applied to right triangles.

While doing this project as previously stated I have made, posters , PowerPoint's, and even poems to further my understanding of triangle trigonometry. I have also learned that it can be used in different subjects. An example being a wide range of engineering problems. Engineers of various types use the fundamentals of trigonometry to design bridges, build structures and solve scientific problems. Trigonometry is very important with engineers who deal with waves, magnetic and electric fields. I also learned while doing this project that the ratios , Tangent, Cosine, and Sine can be inverted like functions. How cool is that !?
