The 2013 Garden State Cake Show competition rules outline the guidelines for entries. Entries must be delivered between 8-9:30am on March 9th and cannot be removed before 5pm on March 10th. Real cakes or dummies can be used but sculpted cakes must be real cake. Purchased decorations cannot be used. Artists can enter one display per category and voting will determine the Decorator's Choice award. Judging will consider workmanship, originality, color, and appearance with the judges' decision being final. Awards will be given on March 10th at 3pm for youth and 4pm for adults.

2013 Garden State Cake Show

Competition Rules and Regulations


Saturday & Sunday March 9 & 10, 2013

1. The competition is open to all sugar artists. The display must be the sole work of the individual entering. 2. Entries must be at the school between 8:00 - 9:30 am on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Cakes may not be removed before Sunday, March 10 at 5:00 pm but must be removed by 6:00 pm Sunday. All displays not picked by 6:00 pm become the property of The Garden State Cake Club and will be disposed at our discretion. 3. Real cakes or cake dummies may be used. All sculpted cakes must be real cake and have photographic proof showing the building stages. Some plastic may be used, but it will be judged accordingly. Purchased ready-made decorations must not be used. No cold porcelain will be allowed. 4. You may enter one display per category, and as many categories in your division as you wish. 5. No electricity will be available in the competition area. 6. Only creations made after March 1, 2013 may be entered. 7. The Show Committee and Judges reserve the right to reclassify entries or disqualify and remove any entry done in poor taste. 8. Although every precaution will be taken, the local School District and the Garden State Cake Club will not be responsible for damaged, lost or stolen items. 9. Each contestant will be given a ballot to vote for Decorator's Choice. Winners' Circle entries will not be eligible for this award. 10. Each contestant will be given chances to participate in the Celebrity Cake Challenge to be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Chances will be issued to registrants as follows: 2 tickets for each cake tier, 10 tickets for each wedding cake, 5 tickets for each shoe. 11. Entries will be judged on workmanship, originality, color coordination and general appearance. 12. Highly qualified decorators will judge, and their decisions will be final. Prizes may not be awarded in all categories. 13. Prize winning displays from other shows may be reentered in our show; however, best of show and first place winners must be entered in Winners' Circle.

There is no charge for winners' circle entries. 16. No advertising or business cards may be displayed in the competition area. Advertising is allowed by the vendors on their tables. 17. Entries may be photographed and photos used by the Garden State Cake Club for promotional purposes. 18. Youth awards and prizes will be presented Sunday, March 10 beginning at 3:00 pm. 19. Adult awards and prizes will be presented Sunday, March 10 beginning at 4:00 pm. 20. Pre-registration before 2/28/2013: A pre-registration entry fee of $8.00 is required for the first cake entry, and $4.00 for each additional cake entry if pre-registered by 2/28/2013 for the Divisional and Tasting Categories (AJ, L-O). Mail-in entries must be received by the GSCC no later than 2/28/2013 to qualify for the discount. No refunds. Contestant entry fee includes admission to the show and a chance to win a spot on a celebrity team in our mini-challenge. It does not include anyone helping you set up your cake, they must pay the admission fee. 21. Online and Onsite Registration after 2/28/2013: The entry fees are $10.00 for the first cake entry, and $5.00 for each additional cake entry for the Divisional and Tasting Categories (A-J, L-O). Entries will be accepted on the first day of the show until 9:30 am. No refunds on online and onsite registrations. Contestant entry fee includes admission to the show and a chance to win a spot on a celebrity team in our mini-challenge. It does not include anyone helping you set up your cake, they must pay the admission fee. 22. An entry fee of $25 for each Wedding Cake Category is required and registered by 2/28/2013. Wedding Cake Category cake entries not pre-registered will not be accepted on the day of the show. No refunds. Contestant entry fee includes admission to the show and a chance to win a spot on a celebrity team in our mini-challenge. It does not include anyone helping you set up your cake, they must pay the admission fee. 23. An entry fee of $25 for each Designer Shoe Category is required and registered by 2/28/2013. Designer Shoe Category entries not pre-registered will not be accepted on the day of the show. No refunds. Contestant entry fee includes admission to the show and a chance to win a spot on a celebrity team in our mini-challenge. It does not include anyone helping you set up, they must pay the admission fee.
