Protein Synthesis Diagram

Messenger RNA copies the genetic code from DNA in the nucleus and transports it to the ribosomes. Transfer RNA then uses the information from messenger RNA to assemble amino acids in the correct sequence to produce proteins. The ribosome reads the three-letter codes on messenger RNA and continues building the protein chain until reaching a stop code, when it releases the completed protein.

Protein Synthesis

o make proteins, messenger RNA copies information from DNA in the nucleus. Transfer RNA then uses this information to produce proteins in the ribosomes.
Messenger RNA Production In the nucleus, a DNA molecule serves as a pattern from which messenger RNA is made. The DNA molecule unzips between nitrogen base pairs. RNA bases match up along one of the DNA strands. The genetic information in the DNA is transferred to the messenger RNA strand. Nucleus G A

Transfer RNA Attaches to Messenger RNA Transfer RNA molecules carry specific amino acids to the ribosome. There they match up with threeletter codes of bases on the messenger RNA. The protein chain grows as each amino acid is attached in the correct sequence. Amino acid Protein

Messenger RNA Messenger RNA Attaches to a Ribosome When the messenger RNA enters the cytoplasm, it attaches to a ribosome, where production of the protein chain begins. The ribosome moves along the messenger RNA strand and reads each three-letter code of bases.

Messenger RNA

Protein Production Complete The protein chain continues to grow until the ribosome reaches a threeletter code that acts as a stop sign. The ribosome then releases the completed protein chain.
