INTRODUCTION
The G.703 Data Interface Unit is one of the DYNACARD primary multiplex equipment channel units. The unit includes 10 data channels complying with the ITUT Recommendation G.703. Characteristics:
h h h h h h h
10 data channels complies with ITUT Recommendation G.703 either a co or contradirectional interface can be selected for the channel channel time slots freely selectable channel settings are made using a Service Terminal the channel states can be monitored using the Service Terminal the channels can be looped for tests.

Contradirectional operation
Both transmission directions include two symmetric pairs (120 W), one containing the data signal and the other containing the 64 kHz and 8 kHz timing information (figure 3). Generation of contradirectional interface signal

The electrical interface between the data unit (DIU) and the terminal equipment (DTE) is implemented by the line interface. The data unit transmits the transmit direction timing signal to the terminal equipment which uses it for data transmission. The DATU circuit inserts the data signal coming from the terminal equipment into the selected time slot in the DM 2 internal bus, from where it is transferred to the MUX unit.
Similarly, the data signal received from the DM 2 bus is sent to the terminal equipment. Simultaneously with the data, timing signal of the receive direction is sent to the terminal equipment. The time slots used by the channels are set using the Service Terminal.
2.3
Codirectional operation
Both transmission directions include one symmetric pair (120 W), which is used for transmission of the data, the 64 kHz timing and the 8 kHz octet timing. The signal is generated as presented in figure 4. Generation of codirectional interface signal

The 64 kbit/s phase is divided into four parts. The binary one is coded as a fourbit sequence 1100. The binary zero is coded as a fourbit sequence 1010. The binary signal is converted into a threelevel signal by changing the polarity of every second group. Every eighth group violates the polarity rule. This violation indicates that the group in question contains the last bit of the octet.

Operation of the data transfer is similar to that of the contradirectional interface with the exception of timing signals. The signal element and octet timing are coded into the data signals transmitted to both directions.
2.4
If the operating voltages of the unit are cut off (power supply fault), the auxiliary voltage connected to the unit activates the red service LED.
2.5
Loopbacks
The data coming from the 64k interface can be looped back in each channel of the unit (interface loopback, figure 5). Alternatively, an equipment loopback can be performed in the unit with respect to the 2M interface (see figure 6). The loopbacks are connected via the service interface. In order for the loopbacks not to remain valid by mistake, they are disconnected automatically after the timeout defined for the controls has expired.

Local alarm cancel (2) Local alarm cancel cancels the rack alarms A and B produced by the equipment. A Dalarm is obtained as a reminder of cancellation. An unnecessary cancellation produces also a Balarm. Reset local cancel (3) Removes the Dalarm obtained as a reminder of cancellation. Cancels the alarm cancellation.

Identifications (4)
The facility displays the identifications of the equipment required e.g. in transmission management of the service network. Some of the identifi cations can be modified by the user. The identifications of the data unit are:
h
document number for the Operation with Service Terminal manual related to the program unit ID (type designation and version of the unit, e.g. TU 21120 03A) program ID (type designation and version of the local processor of the unit, e.g. TS 25400 10A)

3.3
Equipment loopback The signal coming from the 2M interface is looped back to the 2M (channelassociated). The channel in question is replaced by AIS signal from the 64k interface. Forced indication The forced indications force the service LEDs on the front edge of the equipment and generate artificial alarm situations. These are used e.g. for testing the alarms or for addressing the faulty equipment from the far end.
h h h
Forced red indication produces rack alarm B. Forced yellow indication produces rack alarm B. Forced no indication disables the activation of the red, yellow and green LED and produces rack alarm B.

Measurements (7)
The data unit measures its internal operating voltages 5 V and -12 V. The results can be read via the service interface. The channelassociated fault information can be read via the service interface.
