The Hoval Genius-air/water heat pump is assembled outdoors. The installation place must be carefully selected. The following boundary conditions must be kept: The installation place should be selected in such a way that air intake and blow is not hampered or obstructed by snow, leaves etc. There should be provided sufficient space for intake and blow as well as for operation and maintenance. Air short-circuit must be avoided. The space necessary for intake and blow must be always provided. The minimum distances apply only to the indicated example. Under unfavourable conditions (e.g. air short-circuit because of wind influence) the heat pump should be provided with a bilateral blow. Intake air must be completely free from aggressive substances like ammonia, sulphur, chlorine etc. Accessories Type Heat pump Kit for outside installation Included into AS kit: Device roof Intake weather protective grills Outlet weather protective grills Subject to alterations, 1.6.2006 AS Pos.6 Pos.4 Pos.5
Installation
The installation place should not be situated under the living room or bedroom because of sound emission and be placed at sufficient distance from the neighbouring building. Is not recommended to install the heat pump into wall niches (air short-circuit, sound echo) Heating connections and pipelines The pipelines for outdoors (flow and return) should be selected as short as possible. The pipelines outdoors and the condensor should be professionally installed with thermal insulation and antifreeze agent (e.g. self-doped electric trace heating). Deaeration and emptying of the heat pump must be ensured.
Condensate pipeline Condensate must be able to run off freely and non-freezing (frost protected drain, recommended siphon height approx. 100 mm) Wall lead through Wall lead through for pipelines must be implemented and sealed by technicians. Outer electronic control panel Should be installed only inside (room temperature min. +5 C, max. 40C) Electrical connection cables should be selected short, connected flexibly professionally routed according to local rules.

Storage tank for heating water Type TS (70) to heat pump Thermalia After the position on which it is to be placed in the boiler room has been determined and marked, the Hoval hot water storage tank type TS (70) can be installed as follows. Assembly (Figure 1) 1 Remove the four feet (a) of the heat pump. 2 Assemble the four vibration reducing and adjustable (+/- 8mm, M8) feet (a) of the heat pump on the TS storage tank, position the tank and check that it is standing level. 3 Place the heat pump flush on the TS storage tank. The tank is equipped with bearing surfaces (b) for the heat pump. The bearing surfaces are non-slip. If the heat pump is to be fixed to the TS storage tank, their aluminium frames can be bolted together. 4 Mount the hydaulic connectors between the heat pump, storage tank and heating circuit according to the selected connection plan. (See figure A, B and C, as well as the installation, operation and maintenance guidelines of Hoval Thermalia). Storage tank TS (70) to heat pump Type Thermalia (5P-15P) resp. (8HP- 15HP)

Hydaulic connectors Mount the primary and return heating ow pipes as shown on the scale drawings. The connectors are supplied with exible connecting pipes. The connecting pipes (types 5P-15P and 8HP-15-HP) are preassembled to continue upwards, but can be remounted on the left hand side or on the right hand side as required. Please consider the following: Assembly steps 1. Loosen the strap (a) and remove the fittings (b). (figure A) 2. Pull the connecting tube* (c) carefully back into the casing. Replace the rubber coverings (d) of the lead-throughs. Carefully cut out and replace the lagging (side wall of the selected duct). If necessary, glue in place. (figure B) 3. Carefully draw the flexible connecting duct (c) through the new lead-through. If necessary cut to length*. Remount the disassembled fittings (b) with the strap (a) on the tube. (figure C). * see below:
Figure C Figure D

The exible connecting ducts should not be shortened if possible. Shortened connecting ducts transmit vibrations more readily. The ducts must not be crushed or buckled (do not overbend).
The flexible connecting ducts of the heat source are lagged for thermal insulation. If the ducts are remounted the lagging must not be damaged! For duct size 1 remove the lagging before the duct is remounted
(strip it off carefully) and replace it after the duct has been installed. (see figure D, position e)

Minimum plant water content should be checked (recommendation of AWP: 0,015m3/kW heat output). If the heating circuit is equipped with thermostatic valves, a bypass to the bypass valve should be installed. Minimum water content of 0,015 m3/kW of heat output between the heat pump and the bypass is necessary.
Advice
Keep the connection pipes as short as possible. The size should be adequate to cope with the possible throughput. Make sure that the appliance can be emptied for maintenance purposes. Install bleed valves at the highest points of the pipes. Allow system pressure to be maintained by using an expansion vessel (e.g. Reflex). Attention Improper throughput rates caused by the wrong selection of piping and ttings or faulty pump operation can lead to damage of the appliance.

Installation
The heat sources, to be used predominantly for living room heating, are natural and renewable heat sources like outside air soil ground water surface waters (lakes, rivers). Waste heat utilization with heat pumps is one application of the heat pumps for heat recovery, whereby alongside with usual criteria like the temperature level, kind (waste water, exhaust air, exhaust gas), chemical and mechanical cleanliness etc., also the simultaneousness of availability and heat utilization should be considered. An exact analysis of the plant is necessarily. Outdoor air Outdoor air is available everywhere and its use as a heat source needs no official authorization. When planning outdoor air utilization as a heat source the following points should be considered: Application area of the heat pump Output fluctuations of the heat pump due to temperature fluctuations of the heat source Defrosting losses of the heat pump Sound emission of air delivery Condensed water As the heat pump working medium has clearly defined limits of application, the following must be paid attention to during dimensioning of the plant. max. approved condenser outlet (flow) temperature of the selected heat pump with the min. outdoor temperature (intake temperature) of the climate zone. Movement of the heat source and heating system temperatures in opposite directions leads to the output drop of the air/water heat pumps. Thus an air/water heat pump is dimensioned rather tight from the point of view of economy and an electric additional heating system is planned for peak load covering (monoenergetic operation). If possible, installe a technical storage. For planning and accomplishment of the heat source plant a qualified specialized company should be engaged.
Heat pump is a heat transporting machine which behaves very dynamically. This requires constant volumes flows from both the heat source and heat utilization (heating) over the heat exchangers of the heat pump. As heat exchangers of the heat pump show very small water contents, constantly changing heat output demand of the plant (predominantly heating period time!) lead too excessive switching frequency. Short intervals mean however on the one hand insufficient time for stabilization of working medium cycle (efficiency loss), on the other hand lead to compressor engine damage. In this regard the requirement of electric power stations, limiting switching frequency to 3 x per hour has to be reckoned with because of networking technical considerations. Thus suitable measures must be taken or the plant must be planned in such a way that the general conditions concerning the heat pump and the requirement of electric power stations can be fulfilled every time. The most important criteria for fulfilment of the general conditions are: more constant flow rate over the heat pump during the entire utilization period sufficient storage capability and minimum plant contents that of heat utilization side (heating) Under-floor heating can fulfil these requirements in most cases. If these general conditions cannot be fulfilled, the heat pump must be hydraulically separated from the heat utilization plant must (heating). A technical storage tank (buffer storage tank) is necessary for this. Technical storage tank ensures fulfilment of the general conditions concerning the heat pump in every loading condition of the plant. The technical storage tank is dimensioned as follows (volumes in dm3): 220 x QWP T x n = Volume of the technical storage tank = max. heat output of the heat pump (kW) = Temperature difference between On and Off commands = Switching frequency per hour
The heat source (apart from temperature level of the heating system) essentially determines the attainable annual running time, operating reliability and economy of the heat pump plant. The most important factors are unlimited availability during utilization period. the temperature level of the heat source during utilization period. the energy necessary for delivery of the heat source. chemical and physical harmlessness of the heat source (operating reliability, maintenance costs). Professional planning and accomplishment of the source use belong to the most important tasks of the planner and installer.
Frequently asked questions: Does the heat pump need a storage tank?, should be rather formulated like this: Is the plant planned correctly regarding the heat pump? Or: Does the heat utilization (heating) plant fit with the general conditions? Hoval principle schemes M-WPHA-1a to 1d provide a practically tested choice of solutions for heat pump system planning. For further details see Application examples.

Heat source A2 = Air inlet temperature 2 C Heat utilization (heating): W35 = Water inlet temperature 35 C Further the electric power plants need the following data for granting the authorization: Imax. (A) Blocking current so = Max. power consumption of compressor. Serves for dimensioning of supply and protection. = Power consumption for called. LRA (A) direct startup. Serves for the evaluation of sytem perturbation (voltage drop) = If power consumption during direct startup in the network causes more than 3% voltage drop. = Capacity factor, only with PNTvalue above 10 kW serves for dimensioning of eventual power factor correction
These heat pump specific data are productrelated in the Hoval catalogue and they are specified on the heat pump product sign. If a direct start in the network does not cause more than 3% of voltage drop, it can be done without starting help. The necessary explanations and authorization application must be submitted at stage of plant planning. The authorization of the responsible electricity power station must be already present during ordering of the heat pump!

Product Description Examples of application Examples of application Heat pump plant for heating
Principal scheme M-WPHA-1a
Application Air water heat pumps all types with TopTronic heating regulator. Low temperature heating system with max. 2 heating groups and technical storage tank to max. 1500 dm3 content. Pay attention to: Heating (in the ow) and heating source (evaporator inlet) pumps are supplied. Operation method Monovalent Operation mode Gliding storage charge with 2 point regulati on circuit. Heating circuit (heating groups) Dependent on atmospheric conditions 3 point regulation Heating side Max. heating ow temperature: see range of application of the selected heat pump (performance data)! Recommended ow temperature 35-40 C. Storage tank volume approx. 20-35 dm3 per kW of heat output at standard point of W10W35, B0W35 or A2W35. Heat source side Min. outdoor air temperature -10C Heat pump function Heat pump operates dependent on the outdoor temperature (2 point regulator) with gliding operating mode. The technical storage tank works under unfavourable output / load proportion adjusting, enables energy-effective and user-defined discharge and positively affects the service life of the heat pump. The heat pump is put into operation only when the temperature level in the technical storage tank no longer meets the requirements of the heating plant (sensor 9) and is put out of operation, when increased efficiency of the technical storage tank cannot be taken in any longer (sensor 10). The differential gap is adjustable and enables long operating time. Additional restarting delay permits maximally 3 starts per hour (VSE (Association of Swiss Engineers) recommendation) and guarantees long service life. Owing to microprocessor-controlled switching functions a long running time and high annual coefficient of performance of the heat pump are achieved. Heating regulation The weather-dependent heating regulation (3 point regulator) as discharge regulation guarantees an optimal heat supply of the heating plant and operates user-dened with optimal comfort.
