SCOPE
This calculation refers to wall thickness for stations piping for Prai II Lateral Gas Pipeline
Project (PRISM).

METHODOLOGY
a)

Wall thickness calculation


The minimum required pipe wall thickness for each system shall be calculated
based on ASME B31.8-2010.

Calculation was based on ASME B31.8 (2010), Clause 841.11,

Material is API 5L Gr B/ASTM A 106 Gr. B/ ASTM A 333 Gr. 6
Design pressure is 1000 psig (6895 kPa)
Design factor is 0.5 for location Class 3 and 0.4 for location class 4
SMYS is 35,000 psi
Corrosion allowance is 0 mm
Mill tolerance is 12.50%
Note: ASTM A 333 Gr.6 material is for blowdown piping

CONCLUSION
The proposed pipe wall thicknesses obtained are higher than the required minimum
thickness calculated based on the ASME B31.8-2010.
The calculated hoop stress is lower than the allowable hoop stress by the code.
Thus the selected thickness are acceptable for the project.
