Intended Use

Overview

The GxPicture software enables other imaging and practice management software programs to interface with the GXDP-300TM device.

Network
You can operate the GxPicture software on a Local Area Network (LAN). Based on the size of the practice and the volume of images captured per year, we recommend that you have a trained network technician set up your network and configure GxPicture for network operation.

About this Manual


This manual uses the following convention: Fields requiring action are shown as a bold font and indicate that an action or selection must be completed. Examples: Select the Image folder layout. Click OK.

Installation and setup


Installation and setup must only be carried out by service personnel trained and approved by the manufacturer of the unit.

Positioning the PC(s)


The PC(s) connected to the unit should not be used in the patient environment. The minimum horizontal distance between the patient and the PC(s) is 1.5 m (4.5 ft). The minimum vertical distance between the patient and the PC(s) is 2.5 m (6.5 ft).

Installation

Installation Guide for Gendex Software Driver (GxPicture)


IMPORTANT: Before installing the GxPicture software driver, ensure the following: Temporarily disable any software, including antivirus software that may be running and may restrict access to computer resources (e.g. USB ports). Do not plug in any KaVo/Gendex digital device. For installation, you must login using an MS Windows system administrator account. VixWin Platinum users only: Upgrade VixWin Platinum software to the latest compatible version. Have installed all the latest service packs required by your Windows Operating System.

To install the GxPicture driver software either as a new installation or as an upgrade, do the following: 1. Insert the GxPicture Driver CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the AutoPlay menu does not appear after a few moments, click the Start button, then select Run, and type D:\REV#GxPicture.exe (where D is the letter of the CD drive and REV# is GxPicture revision number). If the CD drive letter is not known, double click My computer icon on the desktop, and make a note of the letter of the CD drive icon.

2. From the Choose Setup Language menu select the language for the installation and click Next.

3. Select your Dental Imaging Software and click Next. Then click Install on the next screen.

4. Read the Software License Agreement and click Yes to accept and continue.

5. Select the products to install/upgrade and click Next. Then click Install on the next screen. The driver installation copies all required files to the computer.

6. After all files are installed select Yes and click Finish to complete the installation and reboot. NOTE: When upgrading previous versions of GxPicture, all existing KaVo/Gendex drivers are automatically detected and upgraded to the newest version. To add new devices, insert the GxPicture CD again after the version upgrade.

7. Click OK when the Please calibrate the device screen is displayed. Continue to the next chapter for connecting the device to a PC/LAN. The device must first be connected prior to performing the calibration. NOTE: Please refer to the GXDP-300 Installation Manual for the calibration procedure. The Please calibrate the device screen will not be displayed again once the device is calibrated.

Connect Unit to a PC/LAN

The procedure for connecting the unit to a single PC or several PCs in a local area network (LAN) is exactly the same except that every PC in the LAN needs to be given a unique ID number. Right click the GXDP-300 Ready icon and select Properties to open the device Setup window. The Not Ready icon is displayed when the device is powered OFF or if the device is not properly communicating with GxPicture.

Connection Using IP Address


1. After positioning the unit connect it to the workstation(s) in the local area network using Ethernet cable(s), not supplied. 2. Switch the unit ON. The device LCD window is displayed. with the workstation(s) in the network. 4. In the workstation system tray, right click the GXDP-300 icon and select Configure, then click Properties and select the Settings tab. 5. Select the Enable changing IP address box. 6. Obtain an IP address for the device from your network administrator and enter it into the Device IP address field. NOTE: The workstation and the unit must be in the same subnet when setting the IP address of the unit. 7. Click Send to Device.

Change Device IP Address


1. On the device main control panel touch the Service button (wrench icon). The device information is displayed along with the IP address. 2. Touch the IP button to change the IP address of the unit. The IP configuration options appear on the main display, Remote or Manual.

Change IP Address Remotely


1. Press the Remote button on the device control panel. 2. Set the IP address from workstation by entering the IP address in the Device IP address field and click the Send to Device button. 3. The IP address appears on the main control panel of the device. Touch the device OK button to accept the IP address.

Change IP Address Manually


1. Press the Manual button on the device control panel. 2. Enter the IP address using the device keypad. 3. If the IP address is valid press OK on the device control panel. 4. On the workstation, enter the new IP address in the Device IP address field and click Send to Device button.

Recommended GxPicture Configuration

After installing the GxPicture software driver, the following configuration is recommended: Right click the GXDP-300 Ready icon to open the GXDP-300 Setup windows.

WARNING
GxPicture configuration settings are factory set to display optimal image quality. You may change these settings to suit your personal preference but be careful not to degrade the image quality. You may select Default to return all settings back to the factory settings if image quality is degraded.

Information
Displays the Device Name, GxPicture Version, Driver Version, and Firmware Version.

Treatments
Click Reset Defaults to return all settings to the default values. Projection: Use the and through the available projections: ADULT CHILD TMJ BITEWING buttons to scroll

Gamma:
Adjusts image exposure level (Range: 0.2 to 2). Image contrast can be significantly enhanced with this feature.

Brightness:
Adjusts image luminance (Range: -50 to 50).

Contrast:
Adjusts apparent differences in brightness between features in the image (Range: 0 to 100).

Optimizer:
Check Optimizer to enable an advanced imaging filter to adjust image parameters, then click Setup to open the Optimizer Filter Setup dialog box, which specifies values for Detail, Intensity, and Noise Reduction. Use the sliders to adjust individual values, or click Default to return all settings to the default values. Detail: Adjusts image sharpness (Range: 0 to 100). Intensity: Adjusts image intensity (Range: 0 to 100). Noise Reduction: Adjusts image graininess (Range: 0 to 100). Equalize: Used to show or to highlight morphological structures in the image. Check this to enhance the image contrast by maximizing the use of the available grayscale. Despeckle: Check this to reduce the typical grainy or speckled appearance of x-ray images. NOTE: Reducing the speckled appearance results in a small loss in resolution. Mirror: Check this to flip the image across the vertical axis. LL: Indicates the grayscale value used to improve image quality and contrast (Range: 0 to 30).

Recommended GxPicture Configuration

UL: Indicates the grayscale value used to improve image quality and contrast (Range: 70 to 100). Use Filter Engine: Check to apply filters. Generate Original Image: Check to create an untreated version of the image.

Configure
Image Bit Depth:
The number of bits used to represent each single pixel of the image. Specify either 8 Bit or 16 Bit.

Properties:
Opens the GXDP-300 Setup property sheet.

Device
Status:
Shows Device Name, Software Version, and Serial Number.

Last Image
Retrieve Last Image: Click to retrieve the latest image from the device memory. Must be clicked every time for an image to be retrieved.

Device IP address:
Use IP address of device for connection.

Setting IP address:
Check the Enable changing IP address box to change the IP address. Enter new address into to the IP address field and click Send to Device. Refer to Connection Using IP Address on pg 3-2 for details.
