SECTION A: INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY AND SOCIETY


Individual, Family and Society
1. Explain and use correctly concepts and terms associated with the family 2. Describe the major functions of the family 3. Compare different family types and unions in the Caribbean 4. Examine the roles, relationships and responsibilities of adult and sibling members of a Caribbean family 5. Explain the causes and effects of the changes in the roles of family members in Caribbean society 6. Describe factors which assist in the preparation for parenthood 7. Examine the characteristics of effective parenting 8. Formulate strategies for dealing with contemporary social issues that influence Caribbean family life 9. Assess the reasons for laws to protect the family in social situations: inheritance, child care, legal separation, divorce and domestic violence. 10. Account for the cultural diversity of the Caribbean region 11. Explain and use correctly terms and concepts associated with social groups and institutions 12. Outline the characteristics of primary, secondary, formal and informal groups 13. Describe the requirements for cohesion in groups and institutions 14. Explain the different types of interaction within and among social groups 15. Describe the characteristics of institutions 16. Evaluate the functions of institutions in society 17. Describe the electoral processes and systems used to elect a government in the Commonwealth Caribbean 18. Describe how political parties prepare for elections 19. Outline the factors that influence the outcomes of elections 20. Describe the factors that influence voter participation in elections 21. Differentiate among the types of government systems in the Commonwealth Caribbean 22. Describe the structure of government 23. Evaluate the functions of government 24. Describe the relationship between citizens and governments as stated in the constitution 25. Identify the essentials of good governance 26. Interpret statistical data in the form of tables, graphs and charts on elections

SECTION B: SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND USE OF RESOURCES


(i). Development and Use Of Resources
1. Explain and use correctly concepts and terms associated with human and physical resources 2. Describe the structure and characteristics of a population 3. Explain the factors influencing population distribution 4. Outline factors influencing population change 5. Outline the sources and uses of population statistics 6. Explain the causes and consequences of migration 7. Explain the need for developing human resources 8. Explain the factors that contribute to the development of human resources 9. Explain the factors that influence employment, unemployment and underemployment 10. Describe the factors and procedures to be considered in choosing a job or being self-employed 11. Identify the location and uses of the major natural resources in the Caribbean region 12. Describe proper and improper practices related to the sustainable development and use of natural resources and their effects on the environment and population 13. Represent and interpret data related to human and physical resources

(ii). Regional Integration


1. Explain and use correctly concepts and terms associated with regional integration 2. Describe the major challenges facing the Caribbean Region 3. Outline the major stages in the integration movement 4a. State the functions of the OECS Secretariat 4b. State the functions of the CARICOM Secretariat 4c. State the functions of the Conference of Heads of Government 5. Outline the objectives of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), CARICOM, CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) 6. Outline the factors that promote regional integration 7. Describe the factors that hinder regional integration 8. Analyze the benefits of regional integration 9. Examine the role of individual citizens, business organizations and governments in the integration process 10. Explain the role of regional agencies in the integration process

Tourism
1. Define and use correctly, the following major terms and concepts associated with tourism: Tourism, (international, regional and domestic), excursionist (cruise passenger, other); tourism sector (direct and indirect); economic linkage; economic leakage; tour 2. Differentiate between the types of tourism products available in the Commonwealth Caribbean 3. Explain the factors that influence the development of tourism in the host and supply countries 4. Analyse the contribution of land based and cruise tourism to the economy of the Commonwealth Caribbean 5. Outline employment and career opportunities in the tourism industry 6. Assess the impact of the tourism industry on the physical environment of the Commonwealth Caribbean 7. Assess the impact of tourism on the socio-cultural environment in the Commonwealth Caribbean 8. Evaluate government policies that influence the development of tourism 9. Assess the contribution of local, regional and international agencies to the development of tourism 10. Outline the challenges facing the tourism industry in the region
