Overview This purpose of this lesson booklet is to further refine and develop your skills in the use of the Pro/DESKTOP designing software. This activity was created for the person who has very little to no experience using Pro/DESKTOP. The steps in each exercise are very thoroughly explained. Detailed graphics are also included with the explanation. As you progress through the booklet, the explanations and pictures for a specific skill will become less explanatory. The booklet was purposefully designed this way to stretch your comfort zone and hone your skills in using the software. You may need to refer back to a previous step, until you become more proficient. The following areas are covered at least once while completing the project. Revolved Profile Extruded Profile Extruded Tapered Profile Redefine Extrusions Create Workplanes Create Offset Workplanes Create Sketches Setting an Active Sketch Rename Workplanes & Sketches Duplicate Rectangular Duplicate Circular Setup Units Drawing Lines Drawing Circles Selecting Lines, Faces and Edges Delete Line Segments Create Construction Lines Add Rounds to Edges Using Shift key with Line Tool Use Line Tool with Grid Offset Mirror Mouse Functions Assembly w/ Align, Mate and Center Axes. Mirror profile.
Ensure all lines of the exhaust port profile are selected. Line>Mirror> In the mirror dialog box, use the Lines and Axes tabs to select the lines to be mirrored and the axes the line are to be mirrored about. Use one of the small lines at the center of the engine block for the axes. When the preview is shown in yellow, click OK. Once the right half has been mirrored. Use the Delete line segments tool to remove the two small lines at the center of the exhaust port. A valid profile will not be allowed until these lines are removed! Save your work!

Draw a 1.5 Dia. Circle and a 1.625 Dia. Circle on the new sketch. Draw a line from (0,0) vertically up through the muffler, extending the above the circles. Change the line to a construction line. Line>Toggle construction> Once the line is change to a construction line a valid profile will be formed.
In the Offset sketch lines dialog box, type .025 in the Offset text box and check the Both Sides check box. Click OK. Select the Delete Line Segment Tool from the design toolbar.
Delete out the line segments to form an 0.125 high x 0.05 wide rib profile as shown below.

RC Engine Assembly
Start a New Design.
11
Change the Units you are working in to inches (Tools>Options>Units> change both model distances and paper distances to inches). Save file as RC Engine Assembly. This file will be used to assemble all the engine components. Each part is added to the file using the Add Component option from the Assembly pull down menu. Assembly>Add Component> In the Component part dialog box, select the file name for the component to be added. A preview of the part will appear to the right of the list. We will be starting with the Lower Engine Block. Left mouse click the name or type the components name in the text box. Click Open. Once you have added the Lower Engine Block, Immediately add the Crank. The parts may seem to be randomly place in the assembly file. You will need to rotate the view and move the parts to properly assemble the engine.
If you make a mistake in assembling the engine, just use the Undo button or delete the part and add it again. Only two faces can be select at a time. It will take two steps to join a part to the assembly. You will be selecting a face on each of two parts and then using the Align, Mate or Center Axes options to move and join the two parts.
11-1
You will need to flip the assembly around, change the assembly to a Wire Frame or Transparent in order to select the appropriate faces. Select the faces as shown. Assembly>Align> There may be multiple ways to assemble the same two parts! If you get it wrong the first time, Undo and try another option. The two parts should align as shown below.
Add Head.
Assembly>Add Component> Mate the top of the Upper Engine Block with the Bottom of the Head. Center Axes the Pistons hole on the Lower Engine Block with the Glow Plug hole.
