The Rowing Machine and Crossfit
Weve seen the rowing machines lined up here at Blended Athletics, and likely hopped on them occasionally for a warm-up or for some extra cardio. Like many Crossfit movements, effective use of these machines is a combination of strength and technique. Hi! My name is Tracy Brown. I just started Crossfit in November 2013 when this gym opened. I am not a coach, or a trainer, or a health care professional, but I am a rower (see cool photos above). In 2013, I rowed over 1850km 1500km on the water and 350km on rowing machines just like the ones here. On April 27, 2013, I will be running a half-marathon in Washington DC through Team in Training in support of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Canada, and need to raise $2500 towards this cause. To help reach my fundraising goal, I would like to offer the members and staff of Blended Athletics the opportunity to achieve any combination of the following goals: a) Develop your rowing machine techniques in order to improve your results and reduce chance of injury b) Be part of Team Blended Athletics at the Atlantic Indoor Rowing Championships (AIRCs) on Sunday February 2, 2014 (see table below for more info) c) Support the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of Canada by making a charitable donation in exchange for the rowing machine clinics and workshops being offered Anyone choosing to compete at the AIRCs would compete as a Novice. For benchmarking purposes, past results for 2000m competition include: Junior (U21) Senior (U23) Masters Novice Women 7:50 8:58 7:38 8:49 7:44 8:15 8:04 8:41 Men 6:16 7:58 6:21 7:35 6:32 8:40 no entries In addition to the 2000m races, there are also 1000m dashes and a club relay, categories for lightweight and heavyweight, etc. We can confirm entries once it is determined who wants to participate in this event. A four week workshop will be offered for those who would like to build upon instruction week over week, and/or to train for the AIRCs (attend all four of the following classes): 1:30-2:30PM Saturday, January 11, 18, 25, and February 1 One-time clinics will be offered for those who would like an hour of instruction and feedback on their rowing machine technique: 1:30-2:30PM Sunday, January 12, 19, or 26
