1. What is Organizational Communication and Organizational Behavior? How will I apply this in my own workplace? Organizational Communication according to (Miller 2000), it is a people working together to achieve individual or collective goals. It is also a process by which activities of a society are collected and coordinated to reach the goals of both individuals and the collective group. It is a subfield of general communications studies and is often a component to effective management in a workplace environment. It is use to disseminate information and communicate with employees. So as a future Nurse Leader, I will apply this in my own workplace by doing an email program or internal newsletter. I will put one of my employees in charge of creating a monthly email newsletter. I will let update the newsletter with important information about the company, changes to policies, special dates, health and safety tips, to feature an employee of the month and even hosting a contest, puzzle or fun game for employees to enjoy. Send out the newsletter via email to the employees on a set schedule once per month to keep them up-to-date on company happenings and news. I will also Host theme meetings. Rather than the same old meeting format, I will plan employee meetings around a lunch theme or other theme. I will bring in a catered lunch or have employees bring their own lunch to enjoy during the company meeting. Some companies conduct regular meetings this way to update employees or to have employees update management and other, once per month, or you I can call a meeting when it is necessary to discuss a specific topic or issue. I will also create a social networking group. Create social networking groups for your employees on social networking sites, such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Not only can you post company updates and information in these groups for your members and followers (the employers), but it also a platform where employees can leave messages for you and interact with the other employees. This not only allows you to share information about the company with your employees but allows them to share information with each other.
Organizational Behavior is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups and structures have on behavior within an organization for the purpose of applying such knowledge towards improving an organization's effectiveness. As a future nurse leader I will apply this in my work by giving those trainings and seminars to improve their skills and to be more effective, I will mentor them, inspire them and motivate them to become more productive in work because organizational behavior focuses on what people do, analyzes why they do it, and then applies an evidence-based intervention strategy to improve what people do.
2. What is the Difference between Risk management and Crisis Management? Crisis Management is the term that describes a process, or collection of processes that are put in place to handle an unexpected event that threatens to harm an organization, a business, an operation or an individual / group of people. A crisis normally occurs without prior warning, and therefore it is paramount that plans are put in place that can be executed swiftly to either a) put actions in place to remedy the situation or b) decrease the impact of the crisis so that normality can be restored over a short period of time. In contrast, Risk management is an ongoing process in which potential threats are highlighted and solutions are put in place to avoid these risks. Risk Management tends to be more proactive, whereas Crisis Management is reactive. Unfortunately, no matter how good your risk management procedures are, there is always a requirement for any business, military group or organization to have a crisis management plan put in place.
