A Day In The Field With CPM Photographers

for Photography, 303 S. Paterson St. (Just off Willy Street on the
near East Side).

As an introduction to the Center for Photography at Madison we

invite all interested photographers to join us for a mini-course on
taking your photographs to the next step with a morning workshop
dedicated to learning how to improve your photographic
techniques. You will meet with several of our experienced CPM
photographers for a short lecture, demonstration, and then join our
experts for local shooting in and around Madison. Leaders of our
landscape group, human interest group, nature, group, and plastic
camera groups will be there to help you to better work with your
camera, and to share in the fun of capturing images through your
lens.
We’re interested in finding people who have a serious interest in
photographic expression as a fine-art or documentary medium.
You should have your own camera (preferably a digital SLR or high
level “point and shoot”, or 35 mm/medium format film camera.
Leaders of our special interest groups will be there to offer tips and
to work with you to help improve your photographic eye. You will
also have an opportunity to see our new location and how it might
serve you as a member of the Center for Photography at Madison.

We all bring a unique element to our photography---our personal

history, personality, thoughts, beliefs and lifestyle. When you
begin to fully explore your individual vision of the world, you begin
to create one of a kind, memorable images. This class will
encourage you to expand the way you think about photography,
your work and its creative possibilities. Through class exercises,
viewing work by historically significant and contemporary
photographers, supportive critiques, assignments and discussion,
this class will begin to direct your photography toward becoming
more personal and uniquely powerful.
This class is ideally suited to the photographer who has been

making pictures for awhile, has mastered the mechanics of the
camera, but is beginning to question how to set their work apart
from the myriads of images being made.
Instructor: Patricia Delker. Patricia's background includes

degrees in Communication and Art, plus graduate work in Art
History at St. Cloud State University-Minnesota and at Lamar
University in Beaumont, TX where she studied with Keith Carter.
She has taught photography classes for The Center for
Photography at Madison, UW School of the Arts at Rhinelander,
and the Peninsula Art School in Door Co. Her traditional silver
gelatin prints, cyanotypes and plastic camera images have been
exhibited in one person and group exhibits in Wisconsin, and in
juried group exhibits throughout the country, and her work
published in B&W Magazine, Shots, and Light Leaks Magazine.
Saturday, October 10, 17, 24, 31 from 10 A.M. to Noon at CPM,
with the concluding session Thursday, Nov. 18 from 7 P.M. to 9
P.M. at CPM.
CPM Members $50 / Non-Members $75 (plus materials).
Enrollment limited to 12
Learn how to select, size, and cut mats; mount and protect artwork,
and review inexpensive framing options. For those who want to
mat and frame their own work, or just want to be better prepared
when taking your work to a frame shop.
During the first three sessions, using one or two (depending on

class size) of your photos or other 2-dimensional art work up to
11x14” (or any proportion that size or smaller), you will learn how to
design, measure, prep mat board. You will cut a (single-window)
pair of mats; choose a mounting surface and mount the artwork and
the mats, and explore options to protect the matted image.
At the fourth session, we will explore simple framing options to

finish your piece for presentation. The final session will take place
as November’s Third Thursday program for the evening of Nov. 18.
One or more experts from area frame shops will discuss matting,
framing, and preservation options from simple prints and photos to
more complex items like tapestries or especially old, fragile, or
valuable items.
Materials: Less than $25 per piece of artwork.
Instructor: Bill Pielsticker is a professional fine art and nature

photographer with over 10 years’ experience mounting, matting and
framing his own work for gallery displays and display and sale at
art fairs large and small.

From photography's beginnings, women have been active and

influential practitioners. (The first photography book was
completed in 1845 by Anna Atkins.) Not only will this class
provide historical background about women photographers, we
will also examine how women have approached various subject
matter, traditionally and currently. You will be introduced to
names and images you may not have seen before, learn about
the influence women photographers have had on others, expand
your visual knowledge and gain a greater appreciation for the
accomplishments of work made by women.

Have you ever wondered how some photographers are able to

manipulate and enhance their photographs to make them more
appealing? How they add special effects, create text and make
composites? Do you want to see how you can organize and
manage your digital photos on your computer? If so, then you
should attend this introduction to the use of Photoshop
Elements®. In this class you will be exposed to the wonders of
photo cataloging and editing using this software. Through
lecture, demonstration and class discussion you will become
familiar with the tools and techniques of Photoshop that can help
you to manage and enhance your photos. You will see how to
crop, resize, correct color and exposure, add and remove picture
elements, retouch faces, restore old photographs, add text,
create special effects and many other photo manipulations.
Will this class train you to use the Photoshop tools? No, this
class is designed to expose you to the tools and techniques
that the software has to offer. You are encouraged to bring in
your “problem” photos for enhancement as part of the
demonstration. Upon the completion of the class you will have a
better understanding of the power of Photoshop Elements® and
be better able to decide whether to purchase the software or
enroll in a class that will provide hands-on instruction on how to
use it. (Students who have laptop computers are
encouraged to bring them along to class).
Instructor:: John Lorimer is a professional photographer and

instructor for the Madison Area Technical College – ACE Division
with over 10 years of experience. He has taught Digital and Film
Photography and Photoshop Elements to students of all ages in
the Madison area. He is an enthusiastic teacher with high
approval ratings from his students.

class/workshop capacity.

 Refunds will be considered on an individual basis, if notification is provided
in advance. No refunds on workshop cancellations less than 48 hours prior
to workshop. No refunds on class cancellations less than 7 days prior to
